I hope this new ending means that this retard Mr.Randall Flagg is finally killed. Keeps coming back with his plot armour
1 and 2 are still amazing.

The.Stand.1994.S01.1080p.BluRay.x264.DD2.0-FGT
They re-graded everything to modern/film standards and re-did some of the VFX: https://ew.com/tv/2019/09/19/the-stand-1994-miniseries-making-of-stephen-king-mick-garris/ although unfortunately from what I read a lot of VFX shots are still SD. But they did more than I would imagine.
They also included all the uncensored scenes (rape, etc.) so it's the full version and not broadcast one (contrary to previous reports).
https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/09/11/the-stand-whoopi-goldberg-4-more-join-cbs-all-access-stephen-king-adapt/
King says the budget is bigger than in the previous series, and also they can now use stronger language and violence.
As for the writing, he says some of the scripts were written by his son (and King himself wrote the last episode), so he's happy with them:
Quote: | My son Owen has written some of the scripts and they’re terrific, so it’s good. |
And the original director on the new series:
Quote: | How do you feel about Josh Boone making another TV version of The Stand?
Josh is a friend. He’s been keeping me apprised. I’m really excited to see what they’re going to do. His budget is four times what our budget was. It’s going to be a 10-part, and I’m dying to see it. I don’t feel competitive about it. We did ours, it’s a part of history, and I’m facscinated to see what they’re doing. Josh told me that there were scenes that we did that they’re not going to do because they’re so familiar and iconic. I’m enthusaiastic about it. |

So men... less than 2 weeks until it premieres. Looking forward to it. I know it will be different than the 1994 version which I've seen I don't know how many times. Different actors, different script etc. following the same story.

The Stand Cast Discuss Randall Flagg: "He's Sort of Sexy Trump"
Quote: |
Skarsgard's Flagg isn't exactly the "quiet type," more into huge rallies, mortal combat between the survivors, and public executions for those who dare question his authority. Or as Fiona Dourif aka Rat Woman explains to EW, "He's sort of sexy Trump." For Katherina McNamara aka Julie Lawray, the rally scenes, in particular, were a tough go. "It's a bit terrifying when you're with hundreds of extras chanting insane profanities at Alexander Skarsgard lording over us as Randall Flagg." If that's not enough to convince you of the Flagg/Donald Trump connections, showrunner Ben Cavell and the producers added a bit of visual vanity to Flagg that folks should find very familiar. "We fell in love with the idea that Flagg would want to essentially block out any logos – and Vegas is obviously a place with a lot of logos – but that he would want to block out any branding that's not him with a Flagg symbol," Cavell explains. |

Okay, here we go. Will I be grossly disappointed or will I be pleasantly surprised? Thing is, I've watched the original miniseries so many times that it will be very weird to see other people as the main characters since I'm so used to (and like) Gary Sinise as Stu Redman, James Sheridan as Randall Flagg, Miguel Ferrer as Lloyd the prisoner and Ray Walston as Glen Bateman.
We'll see.

67% based on first 15 reviews.

Seems "average / ok".
Quote: | And that, really, is CBS All Access' The Stand in a nutshell. It's effective TV horror, it's a recognizable dystopia story, but almost nothing hits as hard as it could. I watched these episodes in the middle of a real pandemic—and I mean real, bay-beee, real real—expecting to get knocked on my ass by it, but instead found a pretty standard amount of thrills. The Stand is clearly coming from a creative team that cares a great deal about the source material, and you do feel that affection in every frame. (Which might be why King himself signed on to write the finale.) But it's also the type of affection that leaves large parts of The Stand struggling to breathe. |

so it's based of the first episode? or the whole season, i mean it kind of matters. seems like only e01 is available, unless they've been given the whole season, for whatever reason.

You can find the answer by reading that review, or the other reviews. It's not just the first episode, but also not the whole season.

Meh, from watching episode 1 I already know this will be a 5/10 adaptation compared to the original mini-series. The direction and editing is just.. bad.
Spoiler: | They skipped the best opening of most shows entirely, totally ignoring the lab where the superflu/captain trips escaped and killed everyone, Campion scrambling to get his family out of there and thus becoming the superspreader and the black raven (Flagg or his spy) on the fence as "Don't Fear the Reaper" starts playing.
It starts in backwards fashion which I didn't like at ALL, showing the colony when they collect the corpses, then jumps to Fran and her dead dad and Harold Lauder, then skips to when Campion reached the gas station where Stu Redman is and then skips the rest until Stu Redman is locked up in that facility. So much missing and such a flat and uninspired production with very short scenes, no character build-up.. it's like a 2020 trailer. Bleeeh |

This sadly exploded with the success of "IT". Now every little thing King has put his name on, has to be adapted...poorly.

I'm obviously comparing the 1994 miniseries with this one.

Yeah, I know, the intro/song of the 1994 series was one of my favorite parts.
Still, I liked the first episode, but I haven't read the books so I don't know how much was cut.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Sure do. But where I live it's difficult to get (hash is the common thing here and you have to meet criminal kids in some shady circumstances to get that) and it's ridiculously expensive as well. Besides, I've lost all my connections. I may be able to buy some Papaya weed from a friend though which would be a xmas present to myself.
