Obviously another "live service" tryhard that will be buried and forgotten a year or two later, once EA fails to learn AGAIN that live service games need a constant flow of new content and mechanics, instead of just a trickle of semi-new (as in not just reskinned) cosmetics.

Sure if it drops to around £20, I might pick it up, but damn, the only selling point is the setting, while there are tons of truly successful LS games out there with no price for entry.

If they went with the Apex Legends model, it would be an instant hit.

Should be: Possible GOTY, deep combat, solo and group missions, longevity, awesome VR experience.

Will be: Watered down consolefest, poor HOTAS controls, terrible combat mechanics, easymode lockon, no skill required. Mouse wins every time, floaty flight model.

And lots of 'cosmetics' to earn by playing for 50000 hours for one skin. Or 1.99 from your Force Points® online canteena.

Just imagine a Star Wars space combat game in the hands of a team like Digital Extremes with the same amount of passion, talent and eagerness to listen as DE have with Warframe. Sad

They are in the business of making money. Appealing to the broadest possible audience is how you maximise revenue. If you are not in the center of the bell curve then EA will never make a game for you, at least not deliberately anyway. It's odd that people keep being surprised by this.

Especially a star wars game, in which they probably paid a bazillion for the license. The possibility for games like Kotor and Jedi Knight is pretty much zero, for ever and ever

But even both those examples are very mainstream. KOTOR especially is really the poster child for the consolisation of western RPGs. 3rd person, cinematic dialogue, full voice over, 3 person party, etc. It still has some holdovers from older RPGs, like retaining most of the d20 system under the hood, but that's mostly more of a consequence of largely being a reskinned Neverwinter Nights.

There no surprise in my tone or words.

I also don't give a shit about their objectives, revenues or agenda. I only care for a Star Wars game that I'd personally like to play. Until then, they won't get my money, trust, respect or interest.

You can quickly see them during the video, round the middle of the video.
The imp/rebel ships have similar stats (each ship has its very similar counterpart), but they are not identical.

Well, this looks like it could be somewhat fun, but it also looks totally streamlined and I'm a bit worried about the upgrades thing.. Regardless if you can't purchase them, I hope it's not a grindfest in order to get a decisive advantage over "less-invested" players.

It looks like Tie Fighter is more formidable than X-Wing. The weirdest thing being the fact that they are considered almost equal in firepower. I've always thought that Tie Fighter is a more maneuverable ship with quite a lot less durability and firepower

Tie Interceptor's stats are better than A-wing's.

Tie Bomber is also better than Y-Wing.

That second video makes it look a bit more interesting then their premiere video did. I am not sure if it is worth $40 but will pick it up when it drops under $10. Hopefully they learned from Battlefront 2 so they also add bots in case you just want to play some of the MP modes solo.

Which is funny, because it has always been the case that TIE ships were meant to be much weaker than the Rebel ships because they were mass produced on a massive scale so corners were cut. And now EA is cutting corners in balancing the game around that idea for the sake of a weaksauce 5v5 MP mode.

But Disney has been fucking up the old lore in so many ways that I really couldn't care less. Sure, two sheets of metal with a rod and a ball between them are equally as strong as a flying penis with an X where the balls should be. What ever you say DisnEA. You do you, Legends lore is still out there for everyone to enjoy. Smile

I believe it was stated you can play multiplayer versus the AI, not sure whether that's just a regular PvE mode which still requires 5 human players or a full bot support - hopefully the later, as you wrote.

This game seems to be a fan service, so it probably is possible to play it offline.

Origin has an offline mode.

It also has no microtransactions or else.

They keep that shit for Fifa etc.

It's good to know that it can be eventually isodemoed, although I'm not expecting much from the single-player made by the people responsible for Battlefront 2's pitiful campaign Razz
