So, gameplay question: how does this game handle death and save/loading?

As in, what happens when you die? Do you respawn nearby? Can you reload? Do you lose anything when you die? Are there checkpoints or can you save anywhere?

(Basically, does it have any elements of souls-like games?)

Haven't played an AC game in ages...

so let's see, does that mean that there are auto-saves and dying simply lets you respawn at a recent checkpoint/save with nothing lost?

You go back to your last save. You can save manually at camps and it autosaves in some situations

Doesn't look like it atm not even sure Sony wants to work with Denuvo since the CEO and some of the team worked on SecuROM for Sony DADC before they started the company there might still be some bad blood from the split back then.

A while later, another woman walks into the same salon. The hair stylist scans her as well, discovers she's from a poor part of Berlin, and says her services will cost 35 EUR instead.

Finally, a third woman walks into the salon, and the scan reveals she's visiting from Argentina. The stylist says she'll charge her 20 EUR for the same services.

It's not like that at all. The hair stylist wouldn't waste their time with anyone who wanted to pay less than 50. It's a really bad analogy. Try and look at it from a business perspective. You simply can't sell your product in poorer countries for the price you value it at, but it's simply a copy of data and so you can sell it at a lower cost and make profit.

Before you say something like, 'that means they could sell it everywhere at the lower cost', the number one priority of a company is to make profit and they aren't a charity. If you owned the business you would do the same

I would absolutely do the same. In fact, if I were allowed to, as a SW company I'd charge every user with precisely the maximum that they'd be willing to pay for that product... I'd customize prices not just based on one's country of origin, but also on other statistical data that on average affect one's wealth such as district of residence, skin color, age etc. To be clear: I don't blame companies at all for using regional pricing.

What I strongly object to is that setting prices based on some statistical price predictors is forbidden (setting prices based on age, district, city, skin color etc.), while other statistical price predictors are ok (country of residence). It's fundamentally inconsistent... and I believe that while it may seem to work reasonably now, in the long term a consistent policy on price customization would lead to a better outcome.

Although the PS4 edition is smaller and there's no improved assets like texture quality so that extra data could very well be additional localization stuff rolled into one and fuck Steam having the ability to let players switch on demand for a less extreme file size and download.

FF13 had that too being some 60 GB thanks to dual Japanese English movie and audio data though the sequels that had far less CGI stuff really shrunk it down whereas 13 itself would have been around 40 - 45 anyway instead of 15 - 20 GB.

EDIT: Yeah I think I remember the developers outright confirming there are no higher quality assets (IE 4k textures.) in the PC port so this would be audio and movie files possibly also compression and format changes or just ALL IN sort of for the additional locales.

40 GB on PS4 far as I can find for comparison.

Add a bit more for the Ice themed expansion data.

EDIT: Visually I expect the game to look good but I also expect that downsampling or whatever the actual assets will still show their age.

Can be seen when compared against the sequel too but part of that is due to much better shading and lighting, shadows and such while Alloy herself is only showing some smaller asset changes.
(Though it's hard to compare across a newer version of the game engine targeting much higher-end hardware this time.)

EDIT: Also asset changes or no it's still a more involved port leveraging DirectX 12 and extensive number of settings and even a benchmark mode compared to the more sparse Death Stranding options for example.

Should support ultra wide too in most situations.
(FOV changing got implemented too and higher framerate is supported which really should be standard but stuff happens.)

Or maybe it just needs 100gb to install... that's a common thing on steam, that it needs like double the space of the actual final size on disk.

COD 2016 is around 97GB installed

RDR2 recommends 150GB, not sure how much it actually uses when installed though

RDR 2 is 116 GB right now after the latest big update.
