What about Deus Ex HR & MD, METRO and STALKER games? All those immersive sim / RPG, FPS games had clunky shooting mechanics. And, in a way, it made sense, as they aimed for immersion. And these mechanics, ultimately, added to the charm of the games.

Metro has fantastic shooting mechanics though.

Depends on your budget. If you want to invest a bit into it, go for actual ergonomic office chairs. Don't go after any 'gaming' chair. If you want something decent and still budget friendly I can recommend: Ikea's Markus chair.

It's good for the money + it doesn't look like crap in 6 months, like all my gaming chairs i've had, even the ones that were a bit expensive (way more than Markus). I'd say its not as comfy as the gaming chairs i've owned though. I've had very expensive office chairs (Håg) in the $1000 range, not too impressed.. good quality though and super sturdy. you reach max comfy level waaaay before the $1000 price range Very Happy

I read a lot of good reviews about this one. With all this covid teleworking ive been tempted but looks like everyone is buying it because the delivery time has increased a lot.

STALKER is like the highest of top tier firefight implementations in all of gaming. How did you end up putting stalker of all games in the not good category ? Especially with certain mods. You have probably the best long distance firefights in the medium.

By today's 'industry standards' and the majority's players expectations, STALKER's shooting was perceived as average at best.

Why?

Because lots of people didn't want to accept or didn't understand the clumsiness (or clunkyness) as a sim, realistic aspect of the game. IMO it was great, because it made sense with the whole idea of the game: everything is decayed... from the human spirit to the environment and to everything material.

And nowhere did I say "not good". I specified the examples as being 'clunky'.

EDIT NOTE

'Clunky' in our case doesn't mean necessarily bad. It means it requires the player's investment in adaptability. Once that happens, it becomes like a second nature. Like I said, RPG(-like) systems can, in some games, improve the handling and experience.

IMHO this is exactly how it should happen in the Cyberpunk 2077 RPG game. At level 1 you have a 5% chance to drop the katana from your hands. At lvl 16 you swing it like a pro. Wink

I know you're probably still going to buy a crappy "gaming chair" that looks like a car seat but for what it's worth:

Get a proper adjustable office chair.
Brand doesn't matter as long as it's good quality (but Kinnarps is a great brand in Scandinavia).
Prioritize ergonomics before comfort (you can still have both but ergonomics should always be prioritized).
You can often find used office chairs that companies sell when they rebrand for basically nothing.

Example of a high quality office chair (Kinnarps brand in Scandinavia):

I own the one in the above image but with some slight visual changes. I sit in it at least 8 hours every day of the week, all weeks of the year and I have no back or neck problems. It's worth it.

Yup. Also Condemned, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Dying Light and so on. It definitely is possible to create first-person melee that's both perfectly functional and immersive, but proper efforts must be put into it in order not to make it look and feel awkward Razz
