I assume you need to be able to read to play paper mario? my 5yo loved pokemon but hadn't a clue what was going on. I'm sure he'd love this too, if i read him everything (no).
Story is simple.
Bad guy shows up does bad things you save the day.
Only things you need to read are tutorials for combat, items and such and hints for boss battles. Story wise it's conveyed visually and with text. So no need to read it's all self explanatory.
Writing is awful though. Story is ok. But the localization team is stuck in the twitter weeb chat group or some gay shit. Some of the ridiculousness I read is like what adults without kids think kids will find funny.
5yo might have trouble with the battle system. I'd use the available cheats for unlimited coins and add additional time for each battle. As it could get quite stressful. Even though it's easy.

Paper Mario is nice and brainless but fuck the "combat" gets old real quick
Yeah I know you can hammer or jump to avoid some, thus far anyway.
I'm enjoying the game, I'd enjoy the combat more if it had a point (ie to level up) it just feels needless most of the time

I saw things like that in here and in other "woman problems" topics so...... Am I the only one that thinks some authorities needs to be alerted about Saner and him possibly being a rapist and/or kidnapper ?
Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!

As you level up you can avoid meaningless combat.

Players spotted that the game's Switch menu icon looked like... Well, something you wouldn't necessarily expect to see on your system next to the likes of Animal Crossing and Paper Mario. A quick search for comments on the icon online shows that the design has been rather controversial with some players calling it 'disturbing' and '[messed] up', while others questioned how it ever got through Nintendo's vetting procedures.
Alright people.
Super mario 64 is crack for kids.
Playing the port on the switch and the wee one just on hearing the sound runs up and demands me to play it. Shes only 19 months.
So now on the tv is the complete playthrough and shes loving it. Its certified crack. No other mario game gets her this fixated.

Have / had the same issue with Odyssey! It’s also the first AAA game I’ve seen set up so a 5 year old can complete it (via the guide mode). I wish more games had that kind of thing so I could leave them playing it!!

My son is 11 and even after all the new Fortnites and Minecrafts of today, he keeps coming back to Mario64 (PC Emu) religiously every few months and he was super excited that he can play a very decent port on the Switch now.
Skyward Sword is good like every Zelda game, Killer 7 is super random, typical Suda51 stuff, gameplay is also very weird and on-rails in a way, but has a certain unique feel to it.
