Im using the x-52.
More than enough for what I need.

Hmm, the resolution of the bing maps texture is not very good imho, google maps has alot more detail. And sometime, the placement of objects seems off, for example the ai will place houses in solar array farms or in total obscure spot, like hill tops etc. Not impressed microsoft, not impressed at all. I mean it looks impressive, and even a total flight nub can take his controller and fligh instantly. But the Terrain could look better.
Got it working eventually, even with a virtual mouse yoke (I love flying with mouse and kb), but I am somewhat underwhelmed even by my modest expectations.
What's wrong with the low-res textures and half of the cities consisting of trees btw?! This looked waaaayyy better in trailers and stuff than on my rig and in streams from other players.
No way I am gonna buy this one, even thinking about uninstalling in 2-3 days.
I have played enough flight sims to know what this should be about, but....just underwhelmed.
For for those playing it. What in the gfx of this game warrants the enormous gpu requirements?

The hype, the hype...
You need online version, all high res stuff is downloaded from Bing.

You're serious??
Performance is fine btw. Loadng times a little slow, but that's to be expected with the amount of detail on the ground.
Yes I’m serious.
btw.

I'm on 1660S - mixed ultra/high settings.
It's not that bad, lowest fps ~25-30 in big cities during take-off/landing.
Any cheap joystick recommendations ? Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X?

From playing with the settings, it seems it mostly the MASSIVE draw distance coupled with the tree and building geometry is part of it. But the volumetric clouds eat up the rest. On Ultra the clouds look jaw droppingly good in both realistic look and in the way sunlight interacts with them no matter the time of day. I honestly have not seen clouds even remotely close to how good these look in another game if you pump them to ultra. But it eats FPS like no other if you get crazy with them. I spent 2 hours just flying around looking at clouds with them cranked up all the way and changing the time of day and cloud settings.
Busy airports or DLC/Deluxe ones are highly detailed with lots of AI planes and static planes. It can hit FPS pretty good.
I went to LAX on launch and between all the player planes, AI planes, the airport, and clouds I dropped to 20-25 FPS with a 1080ti (this was at 3440x1440).

@DXWarlock Thanks for the response. It makes sense with those cloud effects and the draw distance. I'll try out the isodemo first though, to get an impression of the performance on my system before buying.
edit: It seems like the benchmarks on Guru3D are a bit too agressive anyways. Computerbase reports more reasonable benches, allthough there seems to be a CPU bottleneck on lower resolutions.

I think they look really great, but how much better are they than the clouds in red dead 2 where they aren't event _that_ important to beging with.
I'd say quite a bit (and there's more happening with them), do you need them to look better than RDR2? Probably not.
I mean even at mixed settings of medium/high it was impressive what I saw.
Another killer for performance: glass reflection in cockpit. Some planes just drop you 10/15fps for that.

They are amazingly good on ultra to me. Red Dead's to me are good sure. But never a "wow lets stare at that!" clouds like here.
I honestly flew around for like two hours like i said, changing cloud types, and scatter/density and time of day just flying around looking at clouds.
I should have taken some screenshots, but even then its not doing it justice for the 3D effect and realism they have when flying around/through them.
On medium they are 'meh', they are 'there' and work..High is decent good. But ultra volumetric setting passing them and looking out through the layer of them, to me anyway, feels just like it does looking out the window in a commercial jet flying around.
From a distance..clouds is clouds in a game. It when you get up close to them they feel 'tangible' in this one.
Like this:
The parts they are flying around up close and in them..it's just like this. This isn't some rendered/enhanced thing. It looks just like this:
I'm not fanboying the game, don't take it that way. It has its rough edges and quirks..but man they nailed the clouds.

It's fine, performance is comparable to current gen aaa games.
I run 4 k with 70 rendering at high-end settings with a gforce 2070 super. Smooth gameplay (i don't realy care for fps) looks fine and higher settings aren't realy noticable.
What is impressive to me is how good the sim runs.
With my 6700K and 1080 Ti (come on RTX3000, Zen 3...) I am locked at 30 on Ultra (2688x1512, 70% render resolution of 2160p) in reasonable areas, flying reasonable planes (not sitting downtown NY in a 787 with full AI).
That may not sound amazing but I remember what FSX was like right from the start back in '06 and there is no comparison. This might actually have a decent future especially if they keep updating it like they believe they will.
Start adding air traffic in around cities and it can get choppy. Otherwise, it's been working fine on my PC (i7-6700K, RTX 2070). I just set mine at the option below the highest setting. Not a graphics whore by any means but I have to say it's one of the best-looking games I've played.
I always wonder if there people that can realy notice the difference between ultra/high for games like this or say rdr2. I realy can't.
Similair: I can't see the difference between uhd and 4k (hd hurts though) on a 28 inch screen at native resolutions. And tuning a 4 k screen to 2k gives a slight blur, but you realy need to pay attention to notice it.
Some people are more obsessed with their fps count at certain settings then the way the game actually looks and plays.

Depends. If you know what specific settings actually do and if turning them up makes a meaningful difference that's not just theoretical then, sure, you can tell the difference. You may not actually care though.
And some higher settings may come with a performance penalty that outweighs any visual improvement and it just won't make much sense to go for it.
It's a balancing act.

I can easily tell the difference between 1440p and 2160p on my 42" LG Monitor but it's acceptable. 1620p is a decent improvement again. Around 1800p is where the difference gets quite a bit more fuzzy for me.
I definitely don't NEED 2160p. Anything around 1620 and I'm happy.
60fps is a must though... I'm used to 30 in FS though and it's not THAT bad.
So, finally managed to get it to start. Runs OK (not great, not terrible) on 4k with 70% display scaling and everything ultra (except bloom turned off as I hate that) on my 1660 Ti.
The tutorials are decent, I finally managed to get a plane off the ground and start it up. The nature (trees, grass, water, clouds, etc) is all done very well and look great. What I think still needs a lot of tuning is the algorithm are the houses/factories. I live in a pretty small town but when I finally got to my house after an hour of flying I noticed quite some issues. Just to name a few: cars driving through houses, roads being underwater. But I can live with that. But what totally breaks the experience for me, is that it seems to think that even in a rural part of the country everyone has a huge palace as a house. Pretty much any town, and even single houses outside towns, are massive. If Simon Cowell visited they'd want to put him on income support

Also a lot of farms are shown as french 19th century appartment blocks. Just to remind you that this is a french game.
