We asked Valve about the issue, and VP of Marketing Doug Lombardi replied. "The time it takes your machine to download the additional content will not be counted against the Steam Refund Policy," he wrote in an email.
"We are working with Microsoft to see if we can improve the download experience," Lombardi also told us, though he didn't elaborate further.
So...you know how the default scenery for London is rather...bare bones? Lots of iconic landmarks flat out missing (pun half intended), what's there is surrounded by dodgy terrain height maps?
You know how one of the very first paid add-ons is in fact London from OrbX? I'll just leave this here.
(He starts out by showing the default scenery buildings, then switches to the OrbX pack.)
They tried to cash grab, and copy/pasted FS1964 scenery, whilst making the excuse of, they didn't want to cause us performance problems, lol, so they are apparently fixing it
Personally, MS should get rid of them, that would be the right thing to do , but, hey ho.
I don't understand why this game doesn't have DX12 (yet). There should be a massive CPU boost.
This coupled with DLSS 2.0+ then it should run well even on midrange systems.
Just a couple screenshots I captured this evening.
They are thumbnails, clickable for full res.
Little meadow I found near Queenstown, New Zealand.
Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand.
Wanjala Mining airstrip near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Flying over the savanna near Kilimanjaro.
Foggy morning near Yamagata, Japan.
Climbing over Sendai, Japan.
View from Queenstown Airport runway, New Zealand.
Antarctic wasteland (no aerial photo, it's buggy as all hell from up high).
Perpetual night in the Arctic.
This last 3 are mid-flight between Sendai and Yamagata, Japan.
Even the jankyAF bing satellite imagery used is a welcome upgrade over MFSX placeholder scenery. Sure, that mining airstrip is as low-res as it can be, but it's still recognisable from what I saw on google maps.

legit or pirated?
I want to get into this, but i guess i need a joystick. Any recommendations? Not super expensive, but not cheap either.
I bought this. Then I refunded it.
I SOOOOO wish that I enjoyed just flying around. I really do because those screenshots look amazing.
I had to try it out because of the "tech".
But just flying around isn't for me sadly.
I need a little more game to it. If it were like American Truck Simulator where you delivered cargo or whatever and had some progression I would have liked it. BUT I KNEW it was a sim and didn't contain that before i got it.
I guess the last real "sim" i liked was Longbow. I freaking loved that.
I also like VTOL for my VR.
I can certainly see what people get out of it that are pillots, wannabe pilots, or plane lovers.
The sim looked great to my eyes visually.

but if it includes the whole world and all airports , dont they fuck themselves over with no meaningfull dlc ? I guess only adding planes, or can modders add planes also ?

FS has included the "whole" world and "all" airports for a looong time already but it does/can do so only to a certain degree:
The ground textures are good to great where decent Bing coverage exists. Less so everywhere else.
Buildings are either default non-custom autogen, AI created models based on photogrammetry or handmade objects (of which there are obviously not an insane amount).
Tokyo Tower for example is a huge skyscraper in the sim, because that's what the AI decided made sense. (Not looking forward to our robotic overlords...)
Similarly with the airports. Most of them just have the more or less correct layout with generic autogen buildings instead of realistic handmade ones.
There is a lot of things 3rd party addon developers (and to a lesser extent Asobo themselves) can bring to the table.
Let's not even talk about study level aircraft the likes of PMDG. (Of which the 777-200LR/F for FSX for example costs $89.99 with a $29.99 expansion pack available, btw).
The SDK is open to everyone. Commercial or not. Albeit not quite finished yet.
P.S. Jesus Christ, the clouds in this can be insanely good looking. To the point where this may as well be Cloud Simulator 2020.

Legit. I use the game pass route, $1 for the first month. I'd say it was a bargain. I tend to burn out on sims well before 4 weeks, so I doubt I'll renew my subscription after the discounted period.
And for an entry level flight stick I recommend the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X. The cheapest hotas out there that is still good enough quality to be enjoyable. Had mine for years and never let me down (not like I use it that often, but still).
As this sim isn't ready for "serious" liner/IFR stuff, for now.
Did you guys try the Bush Trip activities yet ?
VFR/Bush flight is where the sim really shine right now.
Bush activities have really nice navlog with detailed indications and "lore" stuff about your flight path and scenery you are about to visit, and a non-following VFR map to spice things up.
(there is still a cheat button if you got lost, but fuck your achievement then)
Some tips though :
- you have to land and STOP on each runways to validate a leg (wait for the windows to open)
- then, click on "continue to next step" for a seamless experience
- refuel is fucked up (gas station / fuel truck don't work)
- in order to refuel, you have to map the misc "repair and refuel" hey in settings and use this "cheat" for now. (I use it only on airfields with fuel truck/station and once on a parking spot just to satisfy my simmer experience.)
Enjoy

Well. He is wrong about not getting a refund. I had 10 hours on the clock and explained it took over 7 hours to download in my notes with auto refund on steam and got my refund with no problem.

I tried it out for a bit. Can’t say about the sim part. Having been on small aircraft with an instructor, it certainly feels that way. But I guess it would be alot more immersive with a yoke.
But investing in the tech and the premium price of the game? Not sure, especially since the standard edition includes hefty upgrade options and you‘re better off just buying the premium for 100€ on some keysite.
The downside for me are the gfx, at least partly. When you‘re flying closer to the ground, the textures and terrain look like garbage. And the performance is shit too. Granted you can get into some places and specific settings that look awesome but the mix between shit and awesome hurts my eyes. Is this better with the online version? I‘ve only tried Hoodlum.
Also, it seems to me they could have massively expanded upon the training part of the game. I feel like for the premium price, there is alot of wasted potential here.
Bottom line: I‘m not convinced. Its fun but it doesn’t live up to the hype. Maybe it does for the pro Sim players.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Yea, with the blackshark ai streaming its better than the built in offline world.
