Holy hell..shrimp is alive??
It should work, I think it only depends on the USB version on the TV and the USB sticks for transfer rate. Theoretically long as the TV can decode it fast enough (and supports it), the only limit is the USB transfer speed, which for movies is WAY higher than it will need for 4k.

Why would a Qled cost $3000 And at that price range it better plays h265 My LG plays 4K HDR 60FPS x265 Atmos even via streaming from my pc so... Samsung better not be skimping on this Because Windows 10 sharing is so easy, I never bother to copy the files on a stick. I just put the movie files in my share folder and the TV discovers it.

I have a LG OLED TV (B7 Series) and watch all kind of 2160p HDR rips from my USB 3.0 drive all the time. Most of the rips are h.265 anyway and the TV plays 99% of them. So I think you shouldn't have any problems with that.

Yes! I’m alive and well! Mostly just working and shit. This TV thing is my latest obsession brought about by Covid.
I’ve read this as well. In general they may not be fast enough..., but I’m going to put this on my research list. I guess check the firmware for the UBS as well. At the end of the day, I can grab a bunch of samples, different kinds and take the, over to Best Buy and try the, out there. I think Sanscan has a few speedy USB chippies.

Just popping in to say hello Glad you're doing ok!
(Sorry that I can't be of help with TV issues, buying one is still in my to-do list )

Yes! I popped in! Glad to hear from you. How ya doing?
Yeah, I’m pouring over all the TV reviews, Facebook groups. Definitely some kinks to work out with these newer sets. Sound-bar sync problems, bad batches of screens, buzzing sounds with Netflix or ambient mode. Shitty customer service.
Lots of Info out there but I can’t specify torrents because that’s bad, goes against rules. So I be here! With my peeps! I’m behind now on the tech so I’m playing catch up. If I was to add a comment to anything anywhere else, it would be “huh?”
I want this TV, it would look so fine on my wall but my other half isn't so keen. I keep whispering “MotoGP75 75 inches” streams in 1080p though.
Unless it’s an itch you gotta scratch like me, I’d wait. Everything is still 1080p. I’m not jumping on it right now, maybe just before Christmas if a financial disaster doesn’t hit. I’ve had my share of those this year.

On topic, I’d suggest going with a streamer. Either the Nvidia or Apple ones. It’s much more convenient than USB sticks, and considering the price of the TV, a small additional price for a lot of comfort. I use an Apple TV, which I connect to a PLEX server for pretty metadata (artwork, actors, etc.) and it’s very nice. I don’t pay for any Netflix or the sorts.

I’ve stayed away from Apple TV for so long, I was under the impression it had problems playing torrented files? Can you stop it, FF, RW, and pause easily? I was using Serviio with the Samsung Allplay before and it was the shits for that. Tonight I grabbed something else, some cracked version of “mirror for Samsung”. Same thing. ...I’m kinda headed in that direction.
I might look at Nvidia because I hear good things about it. I don’t know, maybe the Apple TV is better, I’m using a Mac. This is all definitely something to look into. I gotta upgrade my thinking.
Any other thoughts people, keep em coming!

My LG OLED has played pretty much anything I've thrown at it. Buy an external SSD, cheap and awesome. I considered getting a streaming device, but it turned out there's no need to. The UI/OS is fast and responsive.

The Apple TV 4K plays anything I throw at it just fine. I mostly download 4K Blu-ray remuxes, and they all play play fine over my Wifi. I use a player, Infise, that works better than Plex’ own app. There may exist different players, but that’s the one I’ve been happy with. Plex’ own player is terrible because it is very capricious of when to stream and when to transcode (you want to Stream always for best quality and performance).

This is how it looks on my TV:
You don't even need Plex, it can access your Windows shares directly. I like Plex server because I can edit the artwork as I like, which is not possible with this app directly.

Now even more confusion ....apparently all the new Samsung’s come with the Apple TV app which you can use to steam anything from any device so it sounds like I may not need to buy the actual streaming device. But still, there has to be a benefit to having the actual devise over the app.

Not really anymore, In my opinion. The 'app' is just the device built onboard. The actual streaming hardware is dirt cheap for the chips. They just move them out of USB dongle you plug in, into the TV (for simplicity sake of explanation).
Wifi and decoder hardware is so fast now-a-days even for average price TV's, that off device storage is pretty much impossible to distinguish.
Like at our house I have all the movies on a cheap $100 synology single drive NAS box on my network.
I use to do USB stick before I got it because wife liked watching movies now and then..but got annoying putting them on the stick and all that so got that for it. I honestly cannot tell the difference between when I use to carry it to the TV on USB, and the networked drive.

The Apple TV+ app on Samsung and LG is for watching Apple TV+ content. It's similar to the Netflix app. It's different from Apple TV, which is a hardware device streamer, with its own operating system (a variant of iOS) and runs apps.
For me, device is always a winner. Imagine a new audio or video codec in a few years; your TV is guaranteed to not support it, while all the device needs is an update to the player app.

But still has the same flaw. That is assuming they still offer support for the device vs making a newer version of it in a few years. Your just changing where you depend on the product maker to continue software updates for newer tech.

Leo brings up a good point. TV updates (I think) are notoriously shortsighted, far and few between. I would much rather be dependant on an Apple TV device for updates rather then Samsung....
I was looking into it as well, there is more space on the device and it’s own processing power so you are less dependant on the TV CPU. (I’m reading about processing power right in different TV models..for upscaling, loading).

Go with whatever your most comfortable with for sure. I am just giving my own personal opinion don't take it as a general consensus.
So far using just a network disk and 3rd party apps I installed on the TV itself, haven't had any issues and its been about 3-4 years since we got it I think?
Myself not too worried about if the TV manufacture stops updating it's player or built in apps, I dont use them. I always find one from the store/portal/whatever your TV calls it for apps I like the GUI and features of and use it. If it stops updating there is 1001 others like it on there I can load instead with a few clicks of the remote.
To me, for my preference anyway, the USB dongle is just doing the same thing. A tiny external board running the app I could just install right on the TV (or a nearly identical function one) to start with.
For TV CPU, as far as I know as long as you aren't getting one of the walmart $200 4K TVs its scaling and decoding should be fine. For example in our bedroom we got a cheap(ish) Roku 4K TV and it plays whatever I throw at it any res or popular codec scaled to 4k, or native 4K, from the NAS just fine.
But any of the options are perfectly fine you can't really go wrong with any of the recommendations people have made. Whatever fits and feels best to you.

Buy TV, use the internal systems/apps until the system can't handle it, buy an external device when that time comes. Pretty easy.

A few years ago, I’d have said “just get a tiny PC”. But 4K on PCs is notoriously retarded. Intel still doesn’t support HDMI 2.0 on lower end models, Windows is retarded when it comes to HDR support, etc. on the other hand, I’ve had the same Apple TV 4K for years now, working great, great support for video: switches automatically from 60hz to 24 depending on content, switches from Dolby Vision to HDR to SDR depending on content, etc. Good luck achieving this on Windows.

You guys are so awesome!
I've been playing around with Plex. I tried this maybe 5 yrs ago and it didn't work properly. I got frustrated and quit. Used Serviio for a bit and then just settled for the USB chippy.
I got Plex up and running!!! Its nice. Got it attached my my external SSD. I think even one of the samples I downloaded that was H265 works on my current set, pretty sure its the H265 I tested it quickly. I know that one wont work through my chippy on the TV. So Plex works on the bedroom TV, I don't know about the living room yet. The living room set is the one I originally tried to set Plex up on.
I am so excited. I am even get a little synopsis and and IMDb rating. Everything works through the remote.
I am one small step closer to being able to fully utilize this super duper TV I want. I'm leaning toward the QLED 80 series. That is if I don't have some unexpected financial hit. We will see.

@pistolshrimp Nice, enjoy!
Just know that Plex players are finicky and sometimes start transcoding even if you say it to stream Direct.

At this point I only understand 80% of what you are saying. I’m reading their forums right now. All that lossy, N. Shield .....rules of 4K talk.
With a pass I could just hook my sister up to my external SSD. I still have a lot of questions but the info is out there.

The prices for 75 inch apparently dropped quite a lot!
But of course that is not a top of the line led with lots and lots of local dimming...
