(Please no trolling..)

We have an iPad Air 2 and on Speed Tests (in Spain, that is) , via WiFi we only get 30mbps instead of the contracted 600 from the ISP. (With a PC connected via Ethernet Gigabit Cat6 cable reaches both DL and UL 600Mbnps // 60MB/s on JDownloader2, so it's a router case, see below)

That's because our Neutral router (Wich's connected with Cat6 cables and not replacing the ISP's router, but it's connected to it via a Cat6 cable "bridge" and placed on the other side of the house btw) is a very old D-LINK that only has a 2,4Ghz bandwith and without "MIMO" (Wich , i think, it's required to unleash the iPad's Wi-Fi potential?) and because it's from 9 years ago i think. It's a D-LINK DIR-605L). And it doesn't have this "802.11ac" connection wich the iPad seems to also require (Again, correct me if i'm wrong)

Just in case, i know it sounds off-topic, but i've connected the cables from the router to a laptop we have and it reaches slightly above 300 on DL and around 450 on UL, it's random, but shows the router can work better on ethernet cable.

So we want to replace that old router with something newer and better so that the WiFi reaches the entire house in full potential if possible (100m2 sized house) for any device, but most importantly, make the iPad Air 2's WiFi to work to it's maximum potential (I've read it can nearly reach 1000Mbps or 866Mbps?).

My question is... What'd be a good priced and CORRECT (with the specs that the iPad Air 2 needs) router to make the iPad Air 2 reach such speeds (Or atleast 600Mbps, ISP contract, remember) along having a strong wide signal?

So far i've been looking around and found these ones wich seems to have everything that i need and are sold where i live, or via internet.

ASUS RT-AC65P, 86€ https://www.asus.com/Networking/RT-AC65P/overview/

ASUS RT-AC85P 110€ (Seems to have better ethernet and WiFi speed capabilities) https://www.asus.com/Networking/RT-AC85P/overview/

Think you guys can help me out?..Thanks in advance!

I would avoid all consumer based access points and get UniFi AC Lite or nanoHD instead.

Connect them to your current router and you wont miss those Asus models you are considering.

The issue is that the owner of the iPad doesn't wants that no matter what (the actual ISP router is in my room at one side of the house, and the neutral one (the one that needs the change) is at the very other side, connected each other between a Cat6 bridge inside the house's foundations (Gravel, whatever ya wanna call it)..

Besides, the owner needs the router still to connect the ISP's TV adapter (Wich requires Ethernet cable) and the SmartTV LAN port because, for the owner, "watching stuff is hella much faster than WiFi signal" , so there's not much of a choice for me.. It has to be a router or the owner won't get another thing in the head to nail at

Btw, if the ISP's router is only 2,4ghz (yet can do simmetric 600DL 600UL, verified with cat6 cables), would the router i am looking for take advantage of it's speeds, along using both 2,4 and 5Ghz bandwiths (concurrently, so the specs says)?

Can you explain, in ten words and without brackets, what you want?

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Change neutral router to a better one with the technology the iPad Air 2 uses/needs so it can benefit from it's WiFi capabilities, something the actual neutral router can't do.

It has to be a router because he also uses devices with Ethernet for faster speed. Owner doesn't wants what escalibur said

I read there is an issue with the iPad Air 2 where Wifi speed is halved when bluetooth is on. Have you tried switching bluetooth off and testing speed again?

Apart from that those ASUS routers should get the job done but I suspect the issue is more with the ipad than the router.

I've disabled the Bluetooth and got 60DL/UL of the 600 (Aka just DL/UL's at 6MB/s instead of 60MB/s)

The thing that i've read is that the iPad Air 2 can reach between 866-1000mbps so this article says https://www.phonearena.com/news/iPad-Air-2-to-provide-much-faster-than-before-Wi-Fi-connection-speeds-supports-record-number-of-LTE-bands_id61861

I don't know, however, if the owner's iPad model has such technologies (802.11ac , MIMO), wich the ASUS router has (though ASUS has something called "MU-MIMO").. You know, because there's the usual "iPad # Gen, #### year" and all that stuff they say every year (back then, nowadays, whatever)

That's why i asked if that specific AP65 router above is the CORRECT/RIGHT one (has the specs required) to get to make the iPad Air 2's Wifi work as it should and not limited out (Besides of giving the whole house a lot of WiFi radius)

Sorry about too many ( ) and all the long writting stuff, but you know what they say, "Better be safe than sorry later"

These devices are limited by their antenna power. And these ASUS routers support the older standards of course.

The main goal is the AC65P so far for the price.

The house is 100m2. You think the ASUS router's WiFi signal/antennas would reach the entire house, even if it's on one side of it?.. And no, i cannot put the router in the middle of the house. We don't have an Ethernet bridge at the middle and nothing we can do about it.

Yeah, i saw the older 802.11 n and whatever standards written at the online site so it shouldn't be a problem for non-iPad Air 2, older devices.

Anything else i should know or you guys need to know?. If not then this saturday we'll go pick it up and next day see what happens. I'll let ya know

It should reach the entire house depending on wall thickness of course and you should expect performance decreasing the further away and the more walls there are. There is not much more to say.

Alright, thanks for everything. Again, will let ya know about what happens in the end once the moment comes.

As for walls, there's a hallway that connects to the other side of the house so for walls there shouldn't be many..I guess

I just have a small last doubt..

My ISP's Router is single band 2,4ghz. If the ISP router gets connected to the new ASUS one, will the ASUS one work on both 2,4ghz and 5ghz bands, or will it get limited to 2,4Ghz? (Aka bottleneck)

I just saw this at the manual online the following https://prntscr.com/uaffzv

I tried to read this, I really did, but after the 2nd or 3rd mention of the fruit named product, my eyes started bleeding and I felt sick.

The ASUS will give you 5 Ghz. If you want to make sure, give the 5Ghz network a different SSID and prioritize that connection. 2.4Ghz has longer range though.

It's been set and working!. Though it seems it does the same range as the previous one.. But still better than nothing on close actions.

Though now the owner wants repeaters to spread over the house. The whole topic can be seen here (Though the owner's unsure if it wants repeaters or improve the ISP's router to the actual 2018 version, but better have some early advice on repeaters)
