Well, I'm sold. Assuming the controllers are not crap, and the thing is comfy and compatibility isn't an issue... damn.. this is superb.

Damn, quite the difference. the other sources does look strangely shitty hmm, especially that screenshot... the test is obviously easy to tamper with (if you want a certain result) due to how you have to record something like this + you have your ass covered too in case someone argues its "faked". it could be paid advertisement. i'd probably wait for more tests.

It does not come with controllers it seems. edit: yes it does, just not pictured, at least not in the shops where i checked..

To be fair, his other vids show everything pretty clearly. The zoom in shots really tell the story though. There's no denying the clarity. Tracking, refresh etc is obviously impossible to show in a vid, so we'll have to wait and see.. but my wallet is ready...

So is it worth upgrading from Oculus Rift CV1 to Quest 2? (Yeah, I know about the extra shit you need to buy to it..like the elite strap and such). Thinking of buying this for myself as a christmas gift.

Nope...I have CV1 and will be instead making a real upgrade to the G2..

I'm inclined to agree, but I would like to see how the G2's controllers work before making any hasty decisions.

BTW, the Facebook requirement is appartently going to be legally challenged: https://judiciary.house.gov/uploadedfiles/investigation_of_competition_in_digital_markets_majority_staff_report_and_recommendations.pdf

Elite strap itself does not have the battery. Battery pack, elite strap and the case are sold as a single set for 139 Euro. it seems that you cannot buy an elite strap with battery pack separately.

I’ve been out of the VR info for a while and know nothing of the new Q2 specs.

Are you hoping to replace your Rift S for the quest2?

I'm considering Quest 2 just for the sake of it being standalone. What discourages me from using Rift S is being tethered to the PC and that one is in a room not big enough to play freely.

Yeah had quest1. You must buy 20$ vrdesktop and sideload a vr games patch with sideloader for it.

Then You must have a pc tethered to a very good 5ghz router and MAYBE it will not stutter. It played pretty nicely alyx in 50mbps.
S is for sure easier to use but link is still in beta and vrdesktop is made by 1 guy

I wonder if this https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/range-extender/re505x

would make for a good low latency direct PC to Quest 2 solution when plugged in to a ethernet port of a PC.

It does have an access point mode and is wifi 6 capable

Well I would say: Cable to router and the router is hooked up to Quest 2 on Wifi.

I don't think any other solution would reduce the input lag/low latency.

There was a video on youtube where the guy did some test:
USB wifi dongle: 50+ms
PCI Express wifi card: 30-40ms
Cable: 20ms

I might keep my S actually because it does still have a ton of value - quest 2 is hands down the best option for like a 3d movie or any video media really - still work to be done on link, and getting everything to 90hz - but this will all come as things will get updated. But the overall design, comfort, sound and general ease of use is very very solid. This should do well during the holidays
