The german website Gameswirtschaft reports that the EU will support four german game productions this year with 500,000€ in total via the "Creative Europe Media" programme. One of the projects that gets supported with 150,000€ is ELEX 2. The company "AWins 2011 GmbH" which is named as the studio has the same address and the same managing director as the Pluto13 GmbH/Piranha Bytes. Thus, it's safe to assume Piranha Bytes will developed a successor to ELEX next.
Makes sense to have plans for a sequel but it's risky too if the original game doesn't pan out, maybe not as dire for larger developers or publishers but I don't know how well PB is currently doing though while Risen might not have been best seller they did manage a trilogy and a re-release of the third game (Although mainly aimed at the newer consoles.) so it can't have been too bad.
EDIT: Probably also matters on how much they've invested into said sequel, toying around with ideas and pre-production story writing and concept art is probably less demanding than going into full pre-production and starting on coding and asset creation even if it's not full scale.
But what do I know, nice to hear PB doing well at least or what's left of the team I guess since the original guys behind Gothic 1 and 2 are probably scattered around a bit by now as tend to happen.
(JoWood was pretty rough as a publisher for one thing but it's not just that.)
Got a bit tired of it as well... and never completed. I know its not the same devs, but I actually completed Greedfall ...wont give that game more than a 7.5/10 tho. But was a decent time.
Yes, can't say I liked ELEX. Only got myself to finish it because it's from Pirahna Bytes. The combat was lacking but to be fair it's still the best these guys have made so far. The story was decent and I really liked how they made the factions to be both good and evil each with their own fanatical ideas and agendas. They created a really good world that can be expanded fantastically in a sequel. The exploration was good but the leveling really killed it for me because most of the time when I found a cool weapon it needed stats that I needed 6-7 more levels to get. Or that everything is super strong until you reach level 11-12 and can only kill rats until then. But it was good that even when you are strong you can still die easily if you are not careful. And the most annoying was the beginning where you play for few hours with your first weapon and everything else is either worse or high leveled. The companions were really different from each other but still soulless and I didn't care about them (with the obligatory character these days strong-independent-woman-who-can't-find-a-real-challenge™). Don't know how are the playstyles as I played only cleric weapons because everything was killing me when go close range in the first 10-15 hours. I don't care about the graphics in games but they looked good enough. Don't remember having some serious bugs but I had a quest that couldn't be finished but at least it was unimportant.
Not a bad game but very rough and can easily bore anyone after 20 hours. I think it took me about 50 or 60 to finish. There is too much to improve if they want to make it really successful but it's possible.
Let's hope it's Elex 2, the first one was - IMO - excellent. Flawed, as all janky EuroRPGs are, but still captured that classic Gothic/Risen feel
Agreed, my genuine love for Elex is almost irrational. It's a massively imperfect beast but it managed to perfectly encapsulate the Piranhaian spirit (against all odds ), which was something that I thought would be lost forever.
With a smaller, denser world, more meaningful/balanced stats and slightly more punchy gun combat, Elex 2 could potentially be the ideal modern-but-not-really sequel that Magalan deserves. I actually hope the signature junk stays, because for me it's exactly what makes these games so unique in the first place!

I don't know how many studios like PB exist for me, but I have bought every game by PB and probably always will in the future. Love them. Don't you ever change, PB!
I liked Gothic's and the first Risen..... after that i've lost interest somewhat, it just doesn't grab me. I played like 60% of Elex, then i just gave up out of boredom, i did last a lot longer than Risen 2 though.

Try Risen 3 then. Its better than both Risen 2 and Elex but not as good as Risen 1 though.
My first and only PB game i played (played a bit of Risen 3 and didn't like it) had a lot of fun! Especially in the beginning to about middle of the game when you're weak, hell i had to fight Drog like 10 times lol.
I like the world and enemies design and having a jetpack is very fun to explore with. I liked having 3 factions to choose from, ended up joining the Berserkers after doing all other factions quests.
The final section of the game was a lot weaker but still i enjoyed ELEX very much and can't wait for some info on the sequel to pop.

Yeah, i guess. I do own it and i've played a little but again it wasn't something that grabbed me like e.g Gothic 1-2 where i just couldn't stop playing. That was a long time ago though, maybe Risen 3 would have been just as good back then...
Imho none were really great. They are AA games. And there is a huge market. They are unafraid to be exactly what they are. Jank. Bit weird. But also fucking awesome.
The reason PB games work for me is the hero fantasy. In the beginning you struggle, and combat never gets braindead. Then you get stronger and actually feel strong. None of that instant bore level scaling shit.
When you find a new, better sword, it actually feels like a massive improvement. You work hard for your robes, and when you gain rank, you feel it.

I guess they're saving up for some cool videos and info, having that more closely to the release date instead of spreading it here and there up until release. probably a good idea, you'll get a "boom" of hype and coverage near release = sell more copies. something like that.
