It’s gonna be super scary.

Quote:
While the “Resident Evil” game series has mostly been a horror-centric affair, the six Milla Jovovich-led films in that series that ran from 2002-2017 were very much straight-up action outings.

That changes with the upcoming film reboot which takes the zombie franchise back to its horror roots. “47 Meters Down” director Johannes Roberts is helming the new take on the property which is setup at Constantin Film and takes plenty of inspiration from 2017’s “Resident Evil VII” game.

Speaking with Screen Rant about where the project currently stands, he says:

Quote:

“We are in active development of that at the moment. I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great. It’s gonna be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game. I think, at the moment, I’m not really allowed to say much more than that. But it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”

Sounds like he's making a movie for 12-year-olds.

I predict it's going to be 'Annabelle'-scary, and not 'The Shining'-scary Razz

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.

https://deadline.com/2020/10/resident-evil-reboot-kaya-scodelario-robbie-amell-hannah-john-kamen-origin-story-1234591729/

Quote:
Constantin Film has set in motion a new adaptation to add to the ever-expanding Resident Evil movie franchise. Constantin and writer-director Johannes Roberts said Tuesday that have conceived an official origin story adaptation with faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games. This story is set in 1998 on a fateful night in Raccoon City.

Starring in the roles of the iconic game characters will be Maze Runner‘s Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield alongside Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.

“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences, said Roberts, the filmmaker behind shark thriller 47 Meters Down and its sequel.

Well, their choice for Claire and Chris are spot on (that guy has the face of someone you can see punching boulders). But what's up with Jill and (sleepy) Leon?

Anyway, it's another game to TV series/movie so... meh ("Hey it's thing that I liked to play and see what happens... only for this version I can only see what happens with no interaction whatsoever")

Costumes are ok, the lighting is just very bad and makes everything look cheap, the costumes, the sets, the props. I hope that it's because they are set pics and that's not how it will look (feel) in the final film with proper lighting, cinematography, and grading, but this isn't a good start.

We shall be getting a trailer soon, let's see..

The director certainly has a promising track record, in line with the ambitiousness and quality of the project. Hopefully we'll have a full-fledged porn spin-off too!

They all look passable as the characters except for Leon as his costume and hair style just seem off. They should have just kept that actor's hair like the picture above.

TBF, Resident Evil itself is rather B-roll to begin with. It does not look super impressive, but unwillingly they could be able to capture the spirit of the first game purely through incompetence and budget restrictions. I'm willing to give this a watch

Having seen the trailer now... Scratch that. The budget for this can't be more than $10 despite the previous films collectively making 1 billion. Cheap bastards.

Jill doesn't even show up in that international trailer so it makes me wonder if they might end up killing her off in this film.

3/10: :/ yeah its pretty bad, resident evil tropes over having a coherent and enjoyable plot + not enough budget not that this effort deserved more.

The Good:
- I liked the pacing up to the halfway point.
- It captures raccoon city and the game locations well (albeit poor budget CGI, its passable for sets).
- There are some good scenes here and there, but overall its pretty bad.

The Bad:
- The CGI is terribly bad in some parts, so bad they shouldn't have used it which is weird because their are other parts that have great makeup and effects.
- Characters aimlessly wander around, there's barely a coherent story - where is anyone going and or why? and they have the material to add a plot
- I wanted it to be better than the Paul W.S Anderson movies because they aren't very good. His first movie is better than this.
- I felt the actors were aware they were participating in a dud Laughing

All that talk from the director of being a big fan was nonsense. Dude just wanted to deliver his own take on the lore and in the process he butchered the story as well as added so many plot holes. Hopefully we won't have to wait 2 more decades for a faithful adaptation. Laughing

The script was so bad, the movie had 3 scenes with dialog, on reflection I think its worse than a 3/10.

- We got cops talking shit in the diner, gratuitous name calling because the cast don't look like the characters.

- The guy in the cell, basically tells you 50% of the movies plot in one go, Wesker randomly gives you the second half near the end of the movie. I've clocked RE1 and 2 and have no fucking idea what they were trying to do here, characters just appear in random locations, no idea how or why they go there.
