When I bought my new motherboard (Z390 Aorus Pro Wifi) I didn't consider the current RAM I was using which isn't on the QVL list.

It seemed to work okay for months but today it started to shit itself with XMP enabled. BSODs even, 1 minute or two into any game. I had been having random errors every now and then but nothing major. If I disable XMP all the problems go away... but then I'm stuck at lower speeds.

CMR32GX4M4C3200C16 is what I have now

QVL list

Is my only option to buy new RAM?

Any recent bios updates or AMD chipset updates?

Everyone seems to be having problems lately. Especially people that upgraded their CPUs to Zen 3 or updated their bioses.

You may need to tweak the timings or increase/decrease voltage in BIOS when enabling XMP since the motherboard may have certain sensitive signalling requirements from the RAM-sockets to the CPU that your RAM sticks aren't 100% compatible with at higher speeds.

Are you using 4 sticks or 2? That can definitely make a difference. You may also reset the BIOS/reflash it in order to train the memory again.

Does it properly load 1.35V voltage when enabling XMP profiles? Because I've seen BIOSes which load XMP parameters but "forget" to set voltage up from JEDEC-standardized 1.2 V, which is not enough for high clocks.

I don't think the XMP profile was working, the voltage maybe. When I use the same settings manually it works fine. I played a game for 2hrs today without issue

I had the same issue with my old board, the XMP profile didn't set the voltage properly. I also had to set it manually.

These days I always double check what the XMP profile sets vs the specification.
