Emergency 4: Global Fighters for Life

  • Official web page: LINK
  • Publisher: Take-Two Interactive
  • Developer: Sixteen Tons Entertainment
  • Genre: RTS/Simulation
  • Release date: 13.4.2006
  • Story/Description: Emergency 4 boasts a rich mix of gripping real-time strategy game and true-to-life simulation. The player becomes head of operations in a fictional rescue and catastrophe management organisation, in command of a number of vehicles and staff from the fire department, medical rescue, police and technical services.

    Quote:

For the first time in the history of the Emergency series, all campaign missions are embedded into one continuous game set in a real town with a sheer infinite number of side-operations and tasks, so linking the various missions together. The player has to manage money as well as setting the right pre-requisites for upcoming missions. The player has to react to a variety of events, developing dynamically 24/7, set against a background of continuous day/night changes and constantly varying weather conditions.
Another new feature are the spectacular overseas operations in the Antarctic and the near East, which present the player with completely new challenges. The sheer number and rich variety of the game’s 20 missions represent a new standard for this genre. The scenes range from medical emergencies to road accidents and large-scale fires, and culminate in earthquakes and floods.

Whether the job involves rescuing casualties, fighting fires or preventing and resolving acts of terror, or introducing the right emergency processes in a catastrophe (with the help of the virtual supervisor of course) the "Save Lives!" motto is always foremost in the player’s mind. These elements make Emergency 4 different to nearly all other real-time strategy games. The game is also benefited by a multiplayer mode and improved controls.

20 extensive missions with various solutions for the player to choose freely. These are dynamically embedded into a looped gamescape set in a "real-life" town, which serves as the permanent base for the player's operational units.

Spectacular overseas operations in the Antarctic and the Middle East.

Improved intuitive player interface: simplified controls, newly developed micromanagement system, extended user interface and Ingame Help, as well as an extensive tutorial.

The new multiplay co-operation mode allows several players to manage an enormous and totally new operational area.

Greatly extended continuous game and challenge mode in completely new surroundings.

New operational units ranging from SEK scouts to recovery helicopters from technical ancillary services, to TransAid, the large-capacity aircraft for overseas operations.

Dynamic, realistic and unscripted fire breakouts.

Realistic physical conditions, for instance: collapsing buildings and bridges, and people hit by blast waves. Each object in the gamescape also possesses different realistic properties such as weight and material.

Greatly improved 3D-graphics with complex effects, for instance: water reflections, glow effects when light reflects from objects, flickering flames, as well as changes in time and weather.

I'm a huge fan of the Emergency series, and i'm really really looking forward to this one.
Been playing the Emergency games since they came out. Theres also quite a few great mods out there which makes the game 100 times better.
Finally we get multiplayer! This will be a lot of fun.
It's a very realistic game, i'd say it's more a simulator than a game though so it might not be for everyone.
Can't wait for April already.

(This is my first template ever)

You can't say the game sucks because you havent tried it yet...
This is the sequel to Emergency 3, maybe you played that one?
Anyway, the game is not exactly the game you play if you want your huge explosions and hip-shooting mass killings.
It is a tactical game, you need to think about how much resources you want to use for the different missions, because if you use too many resources on something that doesnt need 10 fire engines 5 policecars and 8 ambulances you might get fucked if something else happens in the meantime. It's also very challenging, you have to make sure that a car accident doesnt become a disaster with other cars mowing down your personnel, and causes fires etc. so you always have to think what could happen next even if you get a simple mission.
It's a great game, it's something else and it's the only game of it's kind.I love these games, maybe because i'm an ambulance student.
Atleast it's an original gametype.

Edit: Oh yeah i forgot to say that the multiplayer will give the series a huge boost. Curious how it will work but if it's how i think it will be then it's going to be great

Think i was demo from the third game in this serie i tried. Not your useuall kinda game, but not bad either, its just different. Even though i havnt tried the full game i still found the demo quite strategic on the way you have to use your resources, was fun non the less

I like the micromanagement.
In EM4 you will be able to train your personnel too, which i think is really great.
The only thing i didnt like with EM3 is the lack of missions in the freeplay mode and the map isn't that big after you've played it for a while.
You will also get a much bigger environment to deal with in Emergency 4, it's so big you can use transport planes to get you resources at places. Really looking forwards to it. This game may not be HUGE in the eyes of others, but this game will be my Oblivion Very Happy (also looking really forwards to Oblivion though Razz)
