@timechange01 Building watercooling set-ups is just your passion or are there any actual real life benefits to it? (Extreme overclocking, e.g.)
Let's put it the other way - will things first overheat before hitting their OC limits, or is temp not a problem nowadays anymore?

I enjoy having a very silent rig while still being able to extreme OC

(I'm not taunting. Just asking. Because I have absolutely zero idea how does this thing work. ) |
Watercooling fans are regular case fans that are just attached to a radiator. They spin at a constant relatively low rpm (depending on what fans you get). Whereas heatsink fans for CPUs and GPUs can be quite loud depending on the load, ambient temperature, etc..
This is a great website for more info: http://www.overclock.net/f/61/water-cooling

I made a ton of progress Friday night. I assembled the loop so that I can OC the CPU over the next few days before the GTX 980s arrive. I bought Arctic MX-4 but my waterblock came with a tube of Gelid GC Extreme:
I wasn't sure which to use so I made a thread on OCN asking for opinions and I was told Gelid performs better. So I went with the Gelid. On my X58 rig, Ive used a single application of Indigo Extreme since Summer 2012. After taking it all apart a few weeks ago, this is the TIM residue left behind on my EK Supreme HP waterblock by the Indigo Extreme
Pretty impressive compared to traditional paste. The Indigo feels a bit permanent so Im not ready to use it on my 5930k just yet. Anyways Im just gonna post a shit ton of pics from the process, enjoy
Im using the same fans and a Thermochill PA 120.3 radiator that I used in my previous build:
The board is in. Some last pics of the 5930k before it gets covered:
Change the style of the loop slightly. Usually Ive always had the tube going from the pump to the rad, in the front but this time I decided to tuck it a little behind the rad. So I remeasured out new tubing:
No leak tests necessary Everything up and running and ready for OC!
This loop and wire management is temporary until the GPUs arrive. The GTX 980 Hydro Coppers are scheduled to arrive this coming week so this gives me a few days to OC this CPU. So far I got it to 4.62Ghz.
Its about to get crowded inside this case very soon

Thanks mate!!
I still can't game yet since Im on the Geforce 9600 GSO. I tried running Alien Isolation last night, it just goes to a full black screen and nothing happens
With the amount of money I spent on this setup, I dont plan to make ANY changes for at least couple of years. In my previous build I slowly upgraded and in the end I probably spent about the same
Anyways the GPUs are scheduled to arrive in 2 days. I finished overclocking my CPU for now. I actually downclocked it back to 4.51Ghz because I wanted to run a lower vcore voltage and stay within a much lower temperature (about 18C difference) at least for a couple of months.
Tuesday night Il be taking this apart again just to get the GPUs in. Itl be another long night but Im sure itl pay off once I play Alien Isolation for the first time ever

Times have changed indeed . Clean, 100% functional, great looking displacement and so on. Congrats TimeChange
Basically the opposite of mine, a dusty mess with ugly black cables and cheap ghetto solutions all over the place xD. (But as long as temps are fine and everything works, I'm game, literally!)

Time to put that 3080 in the lööp? Not a fan of rgb stuff myself but it looks like good work!
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I can't for the life of me figure out why they don't open a store here in Madison, WI. We've got one of the largest Universities and a tech crazy young crowd here. They'd make hand over fist here.
