Very fun game. If you liked first one, you'll love this.
It only improves on the formula, I cant find anything wrong with it so far

Here's my review for this game..
The campaign is uh....lame
Single Player is junk
It's only saving grace might be multiplayer, yet to be seen.
But hey, it's EA...and we all know their sucklitude.

I dont like the campains either. The campaign in the first game was much better because it also allowed you to decide which territories to invade. Now you have to play war of the ring for that, but then there is no story progression.

I am liking this game so far. The single player is much more noob freindly than the last one and looks to be "keep building more and attack" kind of game so far. And I like how they have built in more of the books than the movies.

try disabling your lan/internet connection first, then start the game till you are in the lan lobby. then reactive your lan/internet connection again and it should work.

Skirmish is okay. Campaigns are short and not so difficult.
Ring War is a laugh. What the hell is that?? Did they try to make a Total War or what? So few options to build.

Basicly expands on the original BFME with some gameplay features added which were missing in the first part...
one HUGE bug found though, the memory leakage problem BFME also suffered...
The game suddenly slows down and everything goes in slow motion... you just ctrl+esc or ctrl+tab... go back to the game and it runs smooth again...
It is very very annoying this bug still is not fixed. Unless I'm missing something, if so please let me know what I can do to stop these slow downs, this problem really has to be addressed asap!
Other then that... its a nice addition to the LOTR games... I wonder if it will be balanced in mp though.

Here's my 2 hours later review of the game now.
Campaign = Short but ok to play through once
Skirmish vs AI = Dumb, even on insane difficulty the AI just bum rushes your base, and is basically killing fodder. It uses no strategy.
War of the Ring = I have Rome: Total War installed which destroys this...I think they just wanted to simulate the BFME1 campaign map
Multiplayer = Was "fun" in beta...and have yet to try it, when I do I will give a holla!

and I was thinking it was just me. SO the slowdowns are not due to my overclocked videocard then.

|
 |
*****MASSIVE SPIOLER ALERT*****
Well I must say this game rocks! The best RTS to date by far and I have played them all! It's 2006 and what the HELL is C&C III going to be like......fainted! LOL! Anyway, I started out BFMEII with the Hero Creator! This is truly an amazing feature. You get to create a Hero, male or female, of either Human, Dwarves, Elves, or Evil. You can change your Heroes look for his/her sword/axe, breast plate, gauntlets, shin guards and helmet. There are only three different pieces for each accessory except the sword which had more and also sported a Fire Sword! I chose the bastard sword for my Hero. You can then change the color of all your armor and clothes. You cannot change your hair or skin color which I thought was odd. You can then put 30 points towards attributes for instance Health, Power, Vision, Health Rate and Armor. You can even have BFMEII recommend where to put the allocation points. Once you get to this point it becomes even more fun. Now you get to choose your powers! You can choose 5 powers and upgrade those powers. There are 10 slots so depending on how you do it you could upgrade 1 power 4 times and another power 1 time. Not all powers allow you to upgrade to a more potent version. There are many powers to choose from. Once you finish this you can start your game.
I played an epic 5 hour game last night. Of course at many points I could have won but didn't want to. I wanted to build up my base, walls and upgrades. I played on Easy at first and I must say it was impossible. My first 2 games I was rushed 3 minutes into the game and killed. But before starting my 3rd game I found something at the start game screen called handicap!!! This was my saving grace! I set the Handicap to -50% just so I could get into the game and learn everything. This worked out well, they didn't rush right away. I was able to get more units built before they came. It was a solid fight that was very even with losses on both sides. I played again with the Handicap and set it to -40% and that was even better and more challenging. I am going to keep moving it up to -30% and so on to see what the perfect setting is. Now this is the way to do Skirmish! All I know is that Easy with no Handicap is nearly impossible. There is no first wave, but a continuous wave. I couldn't keep up with their production. I played as Men of the West on the Isengard skirmish map against Isengard. I put Isengard in the Isengard slot and it was unbelivably moviesque.
One of the coolest additions to BFMEII is the one ring! Gollum shows up on your mini map as a ring icon. You have to kill Gollum to get the ring. I must say that killing Gollum never gets old . Once you do, your character will have a ring icon appear over them. You then have to bring the one ring back to your castle. I first found out about this feature from a voice that said "The enemy has the ring" because I didn't notice the mini map ring icon at first and the enemy was able to kill Gollum. I sent my Created Hero up to get the ring. A group of Uruk's had the ring. As soon as I attacked them Isengard reinforcements came in waves. I couldn't see my Hero at first!!! I killed the group but the ring was picked up again by another Uruk group. Very cool, I had to leave the one ring alone as my Heroes health was getting low and I already used my main heal power. In another game I was able to recover the ring! When you bring it back to your castle the "Form of Elvish" writing on the ring rotates around your castle like a halo! Very nice touch and it looks very cool. This opens up the Mega Hero for your faction. The Men of the West's Mega Hero is Galadriel and let me tell you she KICKS TOTAL ASS!!!!! It was almost not fair. When she hits a GROUP of enemy units they go flying like they did when Sauron hit the knights with his mace in LOTR FOTR movie!! She also has this stationary Tornado that can be created anywhere around her. I put it right in the middle of a horde of attackers and they went spinning up into the Tornado and then were thrown all over the place killing them!!! It was a very cool sight to behold. Galadriel's other power, she only has 2 is a evil looking Red Eye Fear power!! When used a wave of red shoots out in a circle around Galadriel and everything caught in it runs away! I didn't try this against another Hero but I doubt it would make another Hero run away. It would take a good force or another Mega Hero to take out Galadriel or another Mega Hero.
It was a great feeling when I went to purchase my first hero and to see my Created Hero available for purchase! Once my hero was created and ran out of the castle gates it was awesome to see and hear the roars of approval from my troops. My Created Hero has a power that I upgraded during the creation process that severely hurts another Hero. Grima Wormtongue appeared and I sent my Hero against him. I used my new power against Grima and it killed him. If I don't kill the enemy Hero in one hit it encases them in a red field of energy holding them in place! ARCHERS HAVE AT HIM!!! I figure my Hero killed Grima in one hit because she was a level 10. I was also able to kill a Cave Troll in 1 hit and a Giant in 2 hits with my Created Hero!! My first skirmish game could have gone on for another couple of hours. I didn't upgrade everything. I had 1200 cap limit because I was able to space out my farms strategically well to maximize my cap limit. Farms = Cap Limit increase and money.
I would have to say the graphics are incredible but not the best for a RTS because I believe Rise of Legends owns that honor just from the screen shots I have seen GASP! I just bought a EVGA 6800GS CO 256mb AGP OC'd to 421/1201 3 days ago and I was able to play BFMEII at 10x7 on Ultra High graphic settings. I had no slow down, YES!! Everything graphically is better in BFMEII than BFME. All the characters are bigger, not alot bigger but just a little to notice the difference in size. There is more detail and terrain graphics are spectacular. I haven't played on a water map yet in the retail version. So I haven't seen the boats and water shader effects. I am sure they are beautiful because they were in the Demo.
One of the coolest improvements is the maps. They have created maps for all the major locations for instance, Helm's Deep, Isengard, Minas Tirith, Mordor and many more. Anything having to do with these locations that were in the movies is on the maps. Minas Tirith is the whole city going all the way up to the peak where Denethor dove off while on fire in Return of the King!
The building of your "City" is probably the most welcome improvement. Seriously, this is a dream of any RTS'er! You can build vast cities with walls, towers and massive castle upgrades anywhere you want. Each castle has a major power that you must build in its center. There are I believe 6 upgrade pads immediately around your castle. You can build Archer Towers, Catapults, Garrison Expansions or Wall hubs on these pads. Make no mistake you can build anything anywhere. In addition to the connected build pads for your castle you can build lone Archer Towers with garrisoned archers around your castle too. You could make your castle into a DEATH FORTRESS!! All of your buildings can be upgraded to a better version but they don't have any build pads like your castle.
Some units have super powers for instance the Dunedain Archers have a power that allows you on any part, any part of the visible map to send a massive volley of fire arrows. I cannot tell you how many times I used this. It's great against a group of enemy archers and kills them all! This same power is the Men of the West's castle main power. This means you can use it twice in a row if you need to!!! Also all archers have the bombard power where they can shoot a certain ground location over and over with their arrows. One change, well, I am actually not sure yet, is when they use the bombard option with fire arrows it doesn't set the ground on fire like it did in the demo. Where if something walks through the fire they sometimes die or get damaged. In the demo the Dwarves had Men of the West archers and that allowed the bombard inferno damage effect. This wasn't apparent with Men of the West Dunedain Archers. Another very nice touch is when your archers hits certain enemy units with fire arrows they will run around on fire until they die!! There are also new death animations for enemy units.
I was actually able to achieve access to all of my powers! I must say the Men of the West Earthquake is devastating!! You can run your Hero or any unit that can live long enough into the enemies base and unleash the Earthquake power. This kills all little buildings in the epicenter circle. The enemies main castle is only brought down to half health which is good or the game would be way to easy to end. I actually think it's a mistake for all little buildings to be destroyed. Oh well, the only blemish!
I was even able to try out the MP LAN play and I have to say it's better than BFME. The engine is more optimized than BFME. I had ZERO problems with it and we only exprienced slowdown once and that was when my son choose the Elve's castle main power which is to view the entire map. This was towards the end of the game when there were hundreds of units on the map at the same time. My son and I played 2v2 against the computer on Easy with the Handicap set to -40%. My son loved the game, actually saying it was the best RTS he has ever played and we have played them all together in MP.
It was very fun, I would at this point give this game a 10 and RTS of the year honors. Especially after the extremely disappointing Empire at War. Rise of Legends has the look that could knock off BFMEII from the top spot. I haven't even played as the Elves or Goblins yet!! But we'll have to wait and see. If you haven't played BFMEII or don't like RTS games you have got to try this game out! You will like RTS games after you try it. If you only know what Lord of the Rings is and haven't seen the movies you should try this game. You will love Lord of the Rings after you play it. Not to mention go out and buy the extended edition DVDs! All this coming from someone who worked at EALA and hated them because they treat their employees like shit and make them work insane hours, especially during crunch time.
This game is a tribute to the little guy that creates the game, not EA!
Good job people and Great Game!

What do you mean there were no paragraphs! Or do you mean there weren't any breaks in between the paragraphs. I just went back to my review and put spaces between the paragraphs.
GEEZ!!
