Quote:
Announced during Disney Investor Day tonight, Disney+ is expanding upon the Star Wars universe with *a ton* of new shows, including a mystery-thriller series that will surely appeal to horror fans like ourselves who appreciate the darker sides of the franchise.

It’s titled “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” and it’s coming soon to Disney+!

“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

The series comes from Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”).

Movies be shit. Mandolorian is ok.
And they saw how mandolorian hype brought more fans into star wars than their movies. And just like hbomax, Disney wants that netflix streaming revenue.

The Mandalorian is the ONLY thing Disney even got close to doing Star Wars the right way and it's not even Star Wars, it's a separate side story that happens to take place in the same universe with some cameos and some Storm Troopers.

I had low expectations when The Mandalorian was announced after watching Solo: A Star Wars Story and Rogue One (Rogue One was okay but it was more of a Samurai/Ronin movie in a Star Wars setting).

I was wary when I saw the first and second episode of The Mandalorian and felt the strong western lone gunslinger vibes (I don't like westerns at all these days.. I do love the spaghetti westerns and other Clint Eastwood westerns as well as some of the "inspired by real events" movies).

Thankfully I warmed up to the show and even baby Yoda/Grogu (don't like the name.. Grogu sounds more like the name of a Gamorrean green pig warrior than a force sensitive yoda-species creature) didn't annoy me. I really like the style and feeling of it. Sure, there are plenty of things I wish they had done differently, had a stronger overarching arc and there were some pretty weak episodes in the first season but I kind of ignore that and can focus on the main character and the action. It makes it easier to enjoy the show instead of getting annoyed at things that might ruin the experience. What can I say, it's a gift.

in a way i'm all for it, if they understand why Mandalorian is a hit there's a chance it can be decent too..

With comic books there's always been series by some writers that has been shite, that does not mean that particular super hero (for example) is forever tainted / forever gone / could never get fixed.. it's not how people argue, it's just forgotten... with SW yes they have ruined its lore quite a bit with the 3 sequels, but i've seen ways to fix it too, or we can just move on.

What irks me is that they basically disconnected the extended universe from the IP meaning that we'll never see any work based on the Old Republic period and so on. I personally think that era has a lot more potential than just keep milking the short time period of the official saga which has a beginning and an end, beating the dead horse with another dead horse. I'd like to see a movie/series about the ancient Sith lords for instance and explore more of that lore on the screen.

What irks me is the last 2-3 generations probably arn't even given a chance to show some originality. The industry is solely focussed on remaking boomer stories/IP forever, the real money is in catering for retards that want sequels to finished stories because they get nostalgic and buy a ticket.

It doesn't work though, they clearly don't understand the fans and what they want, that's been the problem... Mandalorian does it somewhat right and it's liked by the fans (even by the Fandom Menace - us older fans who are very critical of their handling of SW).

Too much originality is not good either, it has to strike a balance.. Rogue One showed some originality and it was better than the sequel trilogy, in general it seems more liked by fans.

Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) from Squid Game is added to the cast. That show really paid off for him.. as it should be, he did a great job.

The ONLY good non-animated (haven't watched those) SW show is Andor. Everything else is somewhere on the utter shit (Obi-Wan) - mediocre filler (Mando) scale.

If this is like Andor - then sure, I am all for it. But if it is just another woke snoozfest, then instant skip.

The showrunner is the ultra-woke Leslye Headland, friend (and former personal assistant) of Harvey Weinstein no less... this is likely going to be the worst of the lot.

Yeah, while Fett had several terrible moments (mos vespa), there were some good ones too, most noticably the ones with Mando. Obi wan didn't have many good moments.

Meh, I was hoping that the über-woke era we've been in was about to fade out. There have been signs but I guess we're not there yet.
