why this game is in overhyped state is mostly due physological issues. Before W3 launch we did know that CDPR could deliver a good game. There were a lot of hype back then too, but mostly it was somewhat skeptical and when we've got to play it, we were blown away how good that game actually is in comparison to other competitor's titles.
So all gamers could see that CDPR can deliver absolute masterpiece. Everyone was like "if anyone can pull off such ambitious open world games, CDPR is that company." And the cycle went on - "if they could do W3 that good, so Cyberpunk must be 10x times or whatever better".
Finally Cyberpunk released and i must say this game delivers no matter how many haters are out there. In all fronts. It's gorgeous, it's engaging. it's fun, it's cyberpunkish. Sure it has bugs (which game doesn't have those?), but mostly of them are funny and not game breaking and after some months of dedication from CDPR, bugs will be gone.
And one more thing to note. This release is only first part of joyfull ride. I bet CDPR has something big in their sleeves. DLC. I'm pretty sure it will be big, it will bring even more on the table.
In 2 years span after all DLC's and all modding we will be saying that this game was the best that could happen to us (ofc this statement won't stick to pokemons and pony lovers)

Might have been a bug, of which there are plenty, or an "optimization" technique when there are more AI close by. Regardless, many people are unhappy with the crowd AI, and dismissing it as "it's an RPG, what did you expect? " is ridiculous.

yeah, they do call it "just the start of the journey". which i joked about earlier in the thread.. i've waited since the 90's for an open world Cyberpunk RPG, i guess i'll wait a bit more, i will have realistic expectations and i will probably like it more in a year or so..

Bingo.
In addition, the hype really hurt the game. Even people who should know better, dig up 8 years old promotional pre design PR material to "prove" how disappointing this game is and how betrayed we all should feel.

Because it feels completely artificial once you look at it closely. NPCs reaction to anything you do is a complete joke. Point a gun at a car and they just ignore it. Cars won't go around you if you park in the middle of the street, ever! If you shoot someone, people will run and cower, but if you then go near them, they will just stay in place. Police beam in and out instead of getting alarmed and driving to your location.
Now I know, if you want to have a bustling mega city you can't limit population densitiy as much as say for a wild west open world game. But the way the game is now, it just completely kills immersion.
With every hour I play, my disappointment grows a little. I stopped playing yesterday while in the midst of a firefight and the urge to play is just... gone. I still want to experience the story and I still love the setting, but there are just too many things that annoy me.
Why is there no punishment for stealing something right from under peoples noses? Why are there two different penis versions but no slider for body mass? In this regard, why are there no tattoo parlors, barbers or anything to modify your look aside from your wardrobe? No garages, no vehicle customization. The upgrade system is lacklustre. Weapon looting is fundamentally broken, why can I pick up the same weapon 37 times and they all have minimally different stats but none of them seem to add ammunition at least?
I am really considering putting this one on the backburner and seeing what CDPR and modders can do with it in a few months or maybe a years time. It's just sad, maybe expectations were too high, but this could have easily been my GOTY. In this state, it's far from it.

It's the best looking open world I have seen. Are there any other examples to reference how it should run? |
As I have written previously I found Far Cry 5 looking gorgious and runinng better than this.
Edit but dunno maybe AMD is just shit at rendering this...

Good thing I went into full on ignore mode after the 2018 E3 presentation. Wasn't hyped and I'm having a full out blast with this one.
It's beautiful, the characters are well written and damn well voiced, the story is keeping me invested, and the story missions so far have many ways to approach them.
If they would have managed to release it in this state in November, it would have definitely been my GOTY.

It definitely reinforced my intention to play this in a year or 2 that's the least amount of time they would need to fix this it's far worse then any of their other games at release. |
I think a lot of people had unrealistic expectations about this game and/or don't like the genre, they are complaining. In the end it's just a game and people expected something different
The game is good, GOTY without anything comming close and a classic for years to come.
The critique
Bugs: sure, but i've seen way worse with other (mostly rpg's) titles. The game is perfectly playable, though glitched. If that bothers you wait 3-6 months (as with any game actually)
Performance: It's a demanding game but compared with other recent titles (watch dogs 3 and valhalla) it's very good. Watch dogs on my systems was a slideshow with ray tracing and I run valhalla 50fps with 1440 p mid/high setting. RDR2 same result, no ray tracing 1440p 50 fps mid/high settings. I get the same result with this game with ray tracing, although healy relying on dlss, but with way better visual quality on screen imho.
Bland gameplay: what the fuck did people expect from a game like this, that cdr reinvented gaming with this? It's good, period. For me it's what is expected it to be, with the open world and side questing better turning out then expected. It's less ubosoft like bullshit then I expected it to be. |
I think bugwise its on par with Bloodlines or even below a little.
The first 3-4 hours were somewhat okay, but after reaching act 2, there is not a single minute where something that just not right happens:
-sneaked onto an enemy camp. While ducking numerous times my character jumped a little like he was bumping into something on the floor (nothin was there). I tried looting a buritto but couldn't, An enemy clipped through the wall while pattrolling. Bumped onto to debris that knocker around everything in its vicinity, got stuck into the floor so much that I couldnt move and I needed to reload.
This happened at the same spot within 10 minutes.
While these might not be serious stuff but it happens so frequently that it makes the game hard to enjoy/to get immersed in.
I don't know what were they thinking when they released it. Of course it was probably due to business requirements and that they don't give a shit.
BTW stocks are plunging for CDPR.

I had no expectations as I no longer follow upcoming games closely outside of release dates, but I'm still disappointed with how certain aspects of the game feels kinda shallow or unpolished (like the driving).
However there is missing detail in the world with regards to the NPCs. It's a waste to have such a beautiful expansive city feel so dead.
And if that pic of their promises is real, then they've certainly set up expectations and clearly missed the target by miles. No classes, and no advanced rpg mechanics from the pnp game, like I was surprised humanity isn't a thing in the game as I thought there was an option to not get cyber implants and you'd get a different experience based on some article from years ago, but I won't count that as a detraction.
Certainly haven't innovated to set a new standard, and the story is pretty linear so far, but I expect that will change, though terribly disappointed with how the decision in act 1 didn't really matter.
Wonder if I can modify tattoos later, or rework hair. Haven't found the garage yet, though I expect there is one so you can admire your collection of vehicles. Also have yet to find non combat side activities, I'm hoping there's some.

This is an utterly ridiculous statement IMO. If that was the case they could've pooped out a Ciri Witcher game every two years and cashed in majorly.

Well, people were giving them increasingly amounts of shit. A company that prided itself on being consumerist focused. I get it and people asked for it, and here we are. They couldnt just slap on a "delayed until winter 2021" and you know it.

EDIT: Well color me fucking surprised, I was sure the game was going to validate without errors, but it's now downloading a SEVEN GIGABYTE FILE.
 |
Aaaannd yup, that fixed the crashes. No idea what happened, I was doing a sidequest, quciksaved, game crashed 10-20 seconds after that. When I tried to load a save then the game crashed mid-load every time, even when loading a previous save. Verified the cache, the game downloaded a 7 GB file and the game works now

People on other forums report that this happens.
sar·casm | \ ˈsär-ˌka-zəm \
1: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual
