I started playing Anno 1701 and then played 1404 a shitton. I also enjoyed 2070 quite a bit. 2205 was a travesty and the fact they went back to proper anno gameplay after that dumbed down shit is a miracle. Anno 1800 is the best and most complete one of em all, without the DLCs.
While i understand people dislike the 3 seasons thing (not 4), 1 season is enough to be called an expansion, given that it adds a whole new region with unique gameplay, new goods, new animals/museum items etc, substantial gameplay changes etc.
While season 3 is obviously a cashgrab, looks like a lot of people bought both seasons to make it worth is, since they were saying S2 was the last one.
That being said the vast majority of DLC content is end-game. Like really end-game. None of it is needed, so i don't know what you're all complaining about so much. Buy the base game for 20 and if you finish the campaign and then fill up a few islands with investors, only then is there even a point in thinking about the season passes.
Except for Sunken Treasures (currently 6 euros, so together with the base game 26e) which can be useful because of the huge starting island, the rest come into play really late in the game and when you're building huge shit. Stuff the vast majority of players will not experience, because you need to enjoy staring at statistic screens a lot
All the rest are for people who put plenty of hours in and are looking for extra/easier ways to get to insane amounts of residence on their islands.
While i understand the practice is a bit meh, its one of the better examples of it. The fact that to get the game experience none of it is needed, im questioning if you people even played it or are you just complaining for the sake of complaining (which would be very "this forum") |
one of the best releases this year. Played the whole series to death, I don't know why but 2070 is my favorite, i really like the pollution mechanic and that each factions plays out differently. 1404 is great but i found the land based combat really spoils the campaign.

I've only played it up until you get to build the oil factory. One of those buildings has ~900 gold upkeep!! I had to pay around 1200 gold in upkeep just for those oil related buildings which screwed my economy so I gave up.

The most fun part about this is the CO-OP-mode, my gf, for example, LOVES optimizing farm fields in the New World and settling the Arctic, while I hate doing that. So I manage the Heavy Industries and in the end we end up planning our Main City together...when we went to bed, it was 5:30 am...
But as it is an online feature, I doubt u will get this with the Empress-rls.

No doubt about it, they won't
People are too 'stingy' to pay for a game like this, even when the 'base' game has been on sale numerous times now, which includes all DLC regardless, can be easily unlocked, and all playable online, but no, they want it 'ALL', for fuck all The way of the world today ME ME ME, MINE, and I WANT NOW!, else I'll moan like a baby. Yeah.

1. Get more Citizens = Taxes
2. If you supply Artisans and Engineers with the more expensive goods, you can't go broke.
3. Use Town Halls and buy Books with +income% from the Traders.
This game doesn't take a lot of skill to be 'untouchable' for any AI-player at Engineer-Level. Plus having like 10-20k+-income, Trade not included. Man, you can make a quick Million just by buying Diving Quest maps from Old Nate and selling the Legendary stuff plus Extras.
Build soap factories plus extras in reach of your electrified industrial area and sell it all via trade route to that Prison-Guy. $$$
But the lesson to learn for you first and foremost is: GET MORE CITIZENS.
You can't go bankrupt, if you house enough people, and don't tell me you can't afford that Wood-, Brick- and Window-, Steel-, etc infrastructure. Build 100-150 new houses and supply them with fishing huts, Schnapps and Working clothes + buildings.
Need more money? Build 200 more. Town Halls plus Books with +income% and you have more money midgame than you can reasonably spend. Go and buy shares from the AI if you are THAT desperate. You can run 3 Oil plants then.
PS.: I even turn down the income and up the upkeep as much as possible before a new session...otherwise there is NO challenge at all imho. You can always house more farmers and workers. Town Halls and you're good to go.

Ex: I got +200 income now, lol. No idea, dumb. I'm resuming it right now. I've just upgraded to 16gb of ram a couple of days and the game is running slightly better now.

Just keep trying, this is why the Anno games are so addictive, when I started 1404 I was like you, it was so annoying, then I did a bit of reading and my economy boomed and I was rolling in cash. Just make sure you keep your citizens happy and taxes at a manageable level.

personally not sure about this one ..... played some beta before the release and wasnt really impressed , but rather dissapointed but dont really remember why now , might have been some earlier builds fault .
And the announcment of another Season pass makes me wait a bit more anyway.
Might aswell check it on the free subscription thing i got few days left off if it manages to download before the sub ends

Yeah, they expanded the game pretty much. Trial and Beta only lets you get to Artisan-Level, but the game gets really rolling once you can build commuter piers and steam ships at Engineer-Lvl. Plus the whole Oil-management feature and railroads, electrifying cities and industrial areas...migrating your whole industry to another island or declaring the Old World as a hub and going to Trelawny for your main city is pretty fun and.
Also, you can settle all the other regions then, Arctic, Enbasa New World in its entirety...plus so many new game mechanics.
I'd say, start a new game with all DLCs and settle Cape Trelawny with the big island asap, making it your main settlement. You will spend hours upon hours from then on building, optimizing, settling new islands across the regions and you won't notice time flying by.
By playing the beta or trial, you have only seen...20% of the game? You should really give the whole thing another try. There is no 'better' time-eater in gaming I'd say right now...
