Two years gone and I had all the fun with this game for this amount of time...absolutely worth playing and up-to-date as it was on rls.
The patient ones of you will get the full experience now (minus co-op and multi) and I see 1000s of hours you guys will sink into this (polished by now) masterpiece.
Yeah, its one of my best games, totally addictive, hours and hours of gameplay DX12 can be a little wonky at times, but far better than at games release. DX11 is perfect though.
Really addictive indeed, haven't had that in a while, it's tough at first but lovely seeing everything grow. Diplomacy could use more intricacy but the rest of the game is top notch so far.
Bought one too many shares when that piece of shit Beryl declared war on me getting sick of buying them back from me Unlucky enough she's the one with the biggest economy and military
Only the performance gets well worse the more you have, classic Anno

Did you buy the whole island? Usually that happens when you do that.
Also, I just let them be as the AI is mostly passive anyway. On harder difficulties you have to expand to new worlds first so that you can get the best islands.
Also, avoid alliances they're more trouble than its worth.
As far as pirates go, you can either try to go for trade rights or just keep killing them for the loot (they respawn every 30 min)
@dethy No, single shares, mostly not even two. Well it's a lost cause, I am now just looking to get more money while also building enough ships to avoid getting dicked.
I feared that after having been incorporated into the Ubicircus and especially after the awkward An(not) 2205, the ol' Related Design men had lost all their brilliance and dignity, but 1800 is sitting in the pub with a smirk on its face. "I can revive the franchise, hold my Schnapps"
Feels nice to play another quality Anno again. Despite some curious choices here and there it has indeed all the elements that make the series so addictive and engaging in the first place, which is the most important thing. There's depth with satisfying production chains and varied sandbox-y environments, there's the usual freedom to play however you like, as well as the signature charming atmosphere with pleasant visuals and music. As for the performance, it's surprisingly solid for me (1080p/dx11) even with many buildings involved as long as I avoid the taxing V-High/Ultra settings. Too bad the Ubisuits decided against a Steam release, but the mighty YARRConnect service is a damn fine replacement
It's pretty good, though I tried getting through it early on so this ~year or so of bug fixes probably eventually turned around and resolved a lot of the initial problems and faults plus the DLC adding further content.
Felt like a return to the earlier charm of 1404 and less automated than the prior installment though in turn it's a lot more challenging even on reduced difficulty modes to balance all these needy little shits and their moods.
"My island, my rules."
But noo they want everything and anything and then more people in a endless circle so the privileged promoted can pay me more...err request even more stuff they want and so on.
Things do get going once you get the ships and stuff and start really exploring, story mode is a thing too about some goofy family member Uncle Evulz or something and the rest.
Neat little tutorial and starter plus a whole bunch of weirdly friendly nobility NPC's and rival AI's at least until you start winning.
Not so friendly bloody accident prone working class though ohh we burned this down ohh we rioted over here ohh we're too damn lazy to drag the cart any longer build yet another warehouse and then all the intricacies of the building chains and upgrades and hoping to get enough so you can develop on other islands or getting important resources.
It's a good Anno game for the newer installments in the series.
(Anno as in Annoyingly needy little subjects but eh at least they do pay.)
It's rather easy to see which building is missing that riots even occur, I haven't had a single riot in many days now once I secured my port (to avoid the at war situation) with the bonus money from a legendary captain that gave me 250k upon selling. Having police also reduces the risk to near zero.
Attacked two settlements of Beryl a couple days ago with my armada and was raking in the cash of two full island shares from her, and reached the million milestone shortly after. Removed many unncessary builds as well to balance the profits into the positive nature.
@JBeckman Some of the specialists from the prison and loot are really OP that give happiness and remove the needs for many buildings like bread, beer, sausage and so on or completely skip a manufacturing tier so you could possibly turn wood into soap or pigs into canned food or whatever.
Performance is better now with latest release than when i tried it 2-3 months a go. Before it was 35-40 fps at 4k, low details, now it's fluid 60 fps at 4k medium details.

The most OP item are the +income books you can buy. Combine them with PLUS Citizens etc in your Town Halls and you have a ton of cash bridging the gap between Middle- and Late-Game. From Artisans onwards. Buy shares of all your opponents with max 2 per island, they won't attack at that stage.
Once you got 4 Advanced Weapon Factories and 3 steam shipyards, pumping out Battleships on queues nobody will ever touch you.
I uninstalled this, game was ok until i needed 15 charters between islands, it's very easy to get lost in all this logistics and to loose track about something and trying to remember it again is very exhausting, i pumped 70% of items in warehouse at max. It's really fun at first 5-6 hours but then it becomes exponentially overwhelming. I forgot why i delete it at first place 2-3 months a go. It started to feel like work from 8-5.
Why walk, when you can ride.

probably one of the games qualities if i'm being honest, it requires your full attention and becomes quite troublesome if you don't organize everything. a lot of games just don't require either.

People are playing this game exactly for those challenges.
After quite a few hours spent experimenting with bizarre supply chain optimizations my ghetto town is finally starting to look like a city...kind of. It's definitely not a beauty and it's not exactly eco-friendly either but a man's gotta pump up that juicy electricity
Spoiler:
There's still room for much more of course in order to satisfy the pesky investors and the town from the Arctic DLC (that will be used for Putin's gas) is only in its infancy, but *it's something*. ~3m coins sitting in the bank already and about 10k-ish per minute, plus that bitch Beryl O'Mara got her arse completely pounded in the Old World which felt pleasant.
I need to improve the routes though and replace all the old boats with fancy steam cargo ships equipped with 6 slots, poor Dijkstra would be horrified right now
Spoiler:
I was cautiously skeptical at first but considering the QoL improvements, its remarkable depth and polish alongside the intriguing industrial setting, I'd say this Anno is quietly turning into my favourite one. The only downside is the Campaign which offers lackluster writing, though at the end of the day it's merely a very long tutorial that guides you throughout the pre-industrial phase. At least it's still very much a sandbox-y experience, you can pick up from there and face the real challenge of reaching and maintaining the Investors tier with the option of annihilating everyone and/or buying everything.

I'm pretty sure that time period wasn't as pro-nature and pro-life anyway, dude

Haha indeed, still, in order to maximize the citizens' happiness it is advisable to actually outsource the energy infrastructure and avoid placing too many coal-based factories in the main city because of the pollution index. On paper anyway, since as long as you feed them like pigs and give 'em plenty of rum, cigars and trinkets they will always be ecstatic
I just reached the Metropolis status, the growth was swift and painless given that there was no shortage of anything. Now it's time to sodomize everyone and thus become the British Empireball sovereign!
