They've sure widened the gap between different economic groups. Back in the day most of us could scrounge together enough money to buy a high end GPU every second generation or so. Now? Nope. The prices for them mofo's are ridiculous. And they don't need to lower the prices since they're selling faster than they can make them (except for the stupidly expensive 3090 which is just a dumb purchase unless you do workstation stuff whether it's editing high-res video, 3d creation etc.).
3080ti will become nearly as dumb a purchase. 3080 will now also be a dumb new purchase. The prices does not match the performance and longevity of these cards

haha I had exactly that 800gts 320mb! (the one with graw artwork)

Were not back in that day. Times have changed, and cost is now dictated by the current situation we are at, which happens to be shit. The 3090 is stupidly expensive, and would not normally be on my list, but when it's the only option available, and let's face it, will be for some time , then it's do or die By the time most get their 3080's or whatever, we will be entering into the next phase of upgrades, so it really boils down to the fact of whether you wish to play with latest technology now?, or wait till it becomes available and out of date, the latter being the most likely in today's situation. If all were normal, I'd be sitting here with a 3080 now, but we are not in normal, and unlikely to be so for a long long time.
I checked the prices on used market beforehand... so not a surprise for me. Should go higher, maybe 220 EUR was doable, but I optedto sell it fast, than hassle with negotiations...
Prices never really recovered after the last mining boom. And now its getting worse. Just wow.

MSI can go piss off and get their dicks bitten off in the process, and stuffed back into their mouths. Have had my order since release day and not a single new card on the site since that same day, yet they keep pushing out complete PC builds with their cards NP
Haha ya the price increases on GPU's is insane and it's going to be even worse in the coming months thanks to miners and overall poor component availability.
Can't wait to see what the MSRP will be for 3080 TI...I can bet it's going to be 1500-1600€ no matter if it's $999 on Nvidia's site.
Honestly it's gonna make us who didn't go for 3090 idiots tbh. It'll be what? a few hundred euro's difference at max? Well that is release day price of course.
I'll give up playing future AAA titles at ultra details >60FPS befor I buy a gpu for 1500€. Forget that shit. There is plenty of stuff to play right now that runs perfectly fine on last years 400€ GPUs.
Even at 3440x1440 which I'm running now, I've got no issues with my Vega64 and if necessary, I can lower some details.
But to each their own. If money isn't an issue and you want the best you can have. Go for it and enjoy it.

I mean it depends what you already have right now. I wouldn't buy a 2xxx series now either, especially not for the prices.
edit: For people who absolutely need to upgrade it is a real shit situation right now.

I have a 1070 atm. Everything is an upgrade, but small steps for lots of money is a big no. it's 3080 or nothing for me. If i had a 1080TI as it seems to handle 1440p decently enough, i'd still keep it, which mine absolutely don't. Not anymore :/ But when i'm forced to buy something then i want something that lasts.
Wouldn't have upgraded if my GIGANTE 1070 hadn't started to go bonkers on me.
But now I'm sorta lucky that it did at the time, because if it happened a few months later like now it would be a nightmare to replace it. Fucking miners dood
