Looks like a good game. It sounds very similar to Gothic with the "buy to learn", clunky combat, no markers and a basic map.
But from watching some streams it really looks like too much useless walking around. Anyone who can compare it to the Gothic or Risen series?
Sounds like something that could get good within a year or so (i've read 5-6 reviews, watched a few videos). But since this is deep silver i doubt there's funds for any of that, it's gonna be like Risen etc, perhaps 2 smaller updates which fixes the worst bugs, if lucky. They're probably on to doing something else already.
This is the type of game that I want to love cause of the basic idea behind it, but its just too much of a failure in every possible way to let me love it.
The combat is just plain shit, its clunky as hell, doesn't feel all that responsive, the ai is dumb as shit and it can be really hard with no good rewards for succeeding. Honestly its just better to avoid combat most time if possible.
There's no marks on the map which is fine and all, but the map is big, empty and boring so I don't really feel interested to explore. Also if you fall unconscious you can wake up somewhere completely different and be lost for a while.
There's no compelling characters yet (fairly early in the game), no real story, the dialog is dry and combined with the rest of its issues its hard to find a reason to push forward.
The graphics are also really bad, like 2004 bad and whilst I don't mind personally, its just another failure to grab you with something.
All the game has going for it is the initial idea of it and that is all, I'm not even sure how you could fix this with patches, it just needs to be an almost completely different game really.
Also if you fall unconscious you can wake up somewhere completely different and be lost for a while.
Some of the things you complain about (^^ that one in particular) are selling points of the game. It's not as if they aimed to be something else and failed - this was the goal. If you don't like it, it's simply not for you. It's about adventuring. Story, dialogue and anything else - those are entirely secondary.
I don't think you even bothered to read what I complained about. Is the shit combat and AI a selling point ? Is the lack of interesting characters or good writing a selling point ? Are the empty, boring maps a selling point ?
As for the bit you quoted, the problem with it is that it doesn't even make sense. I fall unconscious in the bandit camp and then I wake up all the way on the other side of the map with a note about how this guy found me and decided to help, but he didn't have time to wait till I woke up. Good thing he had time to drag me miles away through the cold. Its just nonsensical and breaks immersion. The point where the NPC saves you is predetermined, so its just dumb, doesn't matter where on the map you are. But I mean the whole "death" system is garbage, it really isn't punishing.
They didn't aim for something else and failed, no. They failed at what they were aiming for. There's nothing interesting to explore, the maps are bland, the enemies aren't interesting, there's no good rewards for succeeding at anything so its hard to care and there's no real punishment for dying so there's no tension, the combat isn't difficult, its just terribly implemented, it just falls flat on everything.
Seems pretty immersive to me, particularly if he found you in a bad state. And it's a great way to change things up, especially if you hadn't been on the other side of the map. It also ties into one of the selling points - 'every time your story is different', rather than plonking you somewhere nearby and convenient each time.
But it isn't though, since the point he takes you to is pre set and its the same place every time. Doesn't matter where he finds you on that map. So it really isn't a surprise past the first time. Same for getting taken "prisoner" by the enemies where its the same spot, though granted that makes more sense. Doesn't make sense there's no guard and your gear is either next to you or a bit away though.

It isn't punishing to take 99% of your possessions away, give you fuck-all to fight back with, and then to put you in a camp filled with a dozen armed AI? I think most would disagree.
That happened once to me, usually my backpack with all my gear is right next to me where I woke up only missing some money, which you shouldn't carry with you anyway so you lose nothing usually. The one time the gear wasn't next to me it was in a tent like 20 meters away with no guards or anything, so it was a short walk... what a punishment lol.

Literally the first line of the thread, as it was marketed...

...and I'd say they succeeded. It's doing very well for itself considering what people would be used to experiencing, so again, it sounds like it's not for you.
How was it successful ? Its an open world sure, but its mostly empty and boring. And all the survival mechanics are superficial and not really all that well implemented.
Wanted to isodemo this to see if i would like it but no matter where i look the only avaible isodemo executable seems to have a trojan named occamy.c on it
75% positive and 25% negative. The game is doing very well for what is essentially a 'boring' walking simulator. And yes, it has a tonne of issues, but the good still outweighs the bad. So, here it is for the third time: it doesn't sound like it's for you.
Tried it with the expansion.. uninstalled after 20 minutes it looks uglier than a modded Gothic 2 apart from the characters. Most of all they have no idea about color scheme, it looks like puke.
Can't fall down, can't jump, can't swim.. They're absolutely clueless about what makes open world games interesting to explore and play. You'll have 1000x times more fun with any of the latest Asscreed or Gothic1-3 which actually has proper story (especially the first two) AND you can fall to your death, climb, swim and it's a world that is actually fun and interesting to explore.
Looks interesting i have to admit, but its hard to find the time. One thing that stuck out a bit was that dungeon during the video with a "high tech" dungeon in a fantasy game with a old fashioned outdoor well inside of it.

you couldn't have been more wrong about this one, yes the game is janky, and yes it did have a rather clashing palette at times, but this actually is a great, interesting game world which is fun to explore.
if i had to throw negatives at this game, sometimes it could be a bit sparse traversing old areas, the combat could really have used better stagger mechanics, translation and voice acting sucked a bit.. but that is about it. i played in coop and had a fucking blast with this game like it was a newly released uncompromised morrowind. i hope these guys make another game.
