A little story. Razz

I made this page to let people know what happened to Galactic civilization II torrent pages made by "Classicchannel" on 24 and 26th of feb 2006,
And to help people the has downloaded main game just to find out that it does not work.

The torrent on this page contains the an "update", it was made by "Classicchannel".

This torrent on this page was made by "save torrent" in Bitlord 1.1
I hope that it will work, if not use link at bottom and download the update from game developer?s homepage, infact it is probably faster.

Main Reason I repost the torrent is that the page that had the torrent was removed and that the update is needed to make game work.

If I violate any rules on thepiratebay then do what is necessary.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What has happened?

"Classicchannel" made 3 pages on thepiratebay with torrents
"galciv2.torrent" - Main game; 4 files + 1 txt file; total 1 GB
"fix problem.torrent" - 3 files including exe file (not needed to make game run).
"galciv2 update.torrent" - Patch needed to make game run also downloadable from developer?s main page.

These 3 pages was later removed by "Classicchannel"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why "Classicchannel" removed the Galactic civilization II pages from thepiratebay.

1- Classicchannel made torrent galciv2 (4 files + txt file) and super seeded the 1 GB game.
About 1500 people waited and waited for the last few % to make a complete game.

2- After people hit 100% and installed the game they found that it didn?t run since some files including exe file was missing.

3- Some people said that program asked for serial key.

4- Classicchannel was warned NOT to share his serial key since if it?s used over and over it will be blacklisted.

5- Classicchannel shared his serial key!!!!

6- Classicchannel panicked when he realised what he had done and removed the page with link to game torrent.

7- Classicchannel made 2 new torrents one "fix for galciv2" and another "galciv2 update".
Then someone found out how to make game run and posted the way to do it.

8- Classicchannel got a bit upset when others got credit and not him.
When people then asked why first torrent with the game was removed, Classicchannel removed the 2 pages that had download links and information on how to make game work.

To me Classicchannel may be more evil then good:
He shared the game - Good deed
He removed page that contained torrent to main game - Evil
He removed 2 other pages that listed how to make game work with download links to needed "update" and "star dock" (that is needed to unpack main game) - Evil
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is needed to make game run

-Main game-
4 game files + txt.file from download (galciv2.torrent)

-Star dock central program-
To unpack main game, how to do it is explained in txt file that came with galciv2.torrent

-GalCiv2_10D1_BonusPack_022406-
Before running this update exe file one would have to rename a file to fool the patch. So rename "GC2Launch" to "GalCiv2" would do it.
I downloaded the first exe file from torrent "fix.." and I did not need to rename anything. However many said that rename a file would work, since the patch will replace the exe file without checking what it replaces.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pages that Classicchannel removed had links to direct download of

>>"sdcentral_setup" & "GalCiv2_10D1_BonusPack_022406"<<
I am just sharing information that others should have credits for.
http://sdc.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe
http://stardock.cachefly.net/GalCiv2_10D1_BonusPack_022406.exe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The name of the update is "GalCiv2_10D1_BonusPack_022406" use torrent on this page to download it or link above, to me the link was way faster.

I give credits to "Classicchannel" for seeding the main game
&
I give credits to people that feel like they deserve it.
If I violate any rules on thepiratebay then do what is necessary.

newsgroups release works Very Happy

It should. Its the same release, just grouped together.

Oh and Zero, i posted teh instructions futher up. Extract the files with stardock and then use my instructions.

True, but the newsgroup release includes EVERYTHING (stardock central and the update patch) WITH the release plus simple instructions on how to install. It will work for EVERYONE. The bittorrent was a giant clusterfuck in that you had to go get a file from here then from there and then rename something - it was confusing (at least according to all the piratebay posts). There is no renaming of files with the newsgroup release either, its a simple copy/paste affair. Its also rared. The newsgroup post is more like a proper release. But ClassicChannel is credited Smile This one is the one that SHOULD be spread around as its packaged to work for everyone.

NFO for the newgroup release :

Release Name: Galactic Civilizations II: DreadLords
Format: This is the FULL Digital Download version as sold here:
http://www.galciv2.com/Purchase.aspx

"
Installation :
NOTE: Before the game will run (without crashing) you MUST do EVERYTHING from steps 1-6!!
Please note this is a Download version of the game which works differently to normal CD games.
The game is distributed using a software call Stardock Central. I have of course included Stardock Central for your convenience. This is what you will have to do:
1) Install Stardock Central. You don't need to register Stardock Central or type in a serial number. Just choose "Enter My information Later"
2) Once Stardock Central is installed, launch it and click on the File menu. Select "Restore Archive and browse to the Archive files (select All files as they are no specifically "Zip files"). Stardock Central will now ask you to select a path to install the game to. Choose one and click on OK.
3) There are 4 Archive files altogether because it is broken up for faster distribution. It should not matter what order you install them but install the file 'Galactic Civilizations II_1.0.005_02.14.2006.sdc' first and followed by the others (you need to install all 4 files).
4)Once the Stardoc central files are done installing, Copy the files from the "Copy these Before you apply update" folder over into your main or root galciv 2 install folder.
5) Finally install the Update+bonus pack from the Update 1.01 + Bonus Pack folder.
6) NOW game should run Smile
Once installed you don't need a CD to play or Stardock Central anymore.
Also there is a FULL MANUAL that comes with the game, look in the folder the game is installed in.
Thanks to the original Bittorrent poster for the release: ClassicChannel Smile

Yeah, but the thing is that doesn't register the game. In your registry that is.

I just shut down, then restarted stardock, then it installed fine.

edit: Woo, this game rocks. Takes a while to get into, but once your empire gets going it's a hell of alot of fun.

This wont install using the method described above, Stardock says it can't activate it then it lists my account info with "Error" after email and Password (i did not register, just choosed "later").

Guess they've updated their software (used the link to stardock-program from the link above) so it's no longer possible.

That's why I copied the GalCiv 1 key (the patch only needs a path location) Very Happy Works like a dream.

No cheat ?
I tell you a little story.
I had 7 planet, the enemy controlled 1.
The enemy income 28 credit all in six round, and he was build 3 middle class ship, during 6 round. (LOL)
Otherwise, he was 1900 credit, but after that 6 round, he got 2400 credit.
How ?
28*6=168-price of 3 middle class ship+1900=2400 ?
I think, he got a new matematic era or fund himself a creditcard.
