Pre-post for a movie I'm about to watch; the Soviet 1967 horror/drama/fantasy movie Viy.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062453/reference

I've known about it for a long time but never actually taken the time to watch it. I guess I had some preconceptions about whether a 60'ies soviet era horror movie could be good or not. I loved Stalker (1979, based on the book Roadside Picknic) and this movie is generally highly recommended so I guess it's time to give it a go. Also, Mario Bava (legend and father of early Italian giallo/horror who basically created a new generation of Italian cinema from the 50'ies forward) made "Black Sunday" in 1960, an adaptation of the same story.

I'll be back in ~120 minutes with my verdict.

Day after: I fell asleep 20 minutes into it. So far it's cheesy acting, weird stuff going on, tired and sleepy and poof....

Yeah, I did like it. Cool CGI at moments, nice fighting and characters act good enough. Kano stands out though.

Mortal Kombat (2021) - 3.5/10

Kano and some fights were ok, otherwise very weak.

Okay-ish. Got some things and characters right. Kabal was my favorite, but sadly too little screen time. The protagonist "acting" was very cringey tho.

Wife says it was better than Netfilx's the Stowaway. I say skip first hour they just get the team together and introduce everyone.

Village of the Damned - 5/10

The vault aka way down
Fell asleep half way through but was intrigued and kept me interested. Very simple heist plot but executed like a decent 90s heist movie. Right now it's a 7/10 will finish tonight. Freddy can't fully get rid of the autism from the good doctor, but he's does a great job. Worth the watch at least from what I watched.

[Muffled sound] of Metal - 7/10

There isn't much to say about the movie, it's rather honest - as in, it delivers about what you would expect from it without any particularly [muffled mixed complaint]. The tone is mostly a gloomy one, which is amplified by the competent acting and by [high-pitched distorted muffled spoiler]. I probably wouldn't recommend it to anybody but it's a well-crafted realistic simulation of [muffled Ahmed]

Tex Montana Will Survive! 7/10.

It's a cheesy movie set in the vibe on Survivorman and Man vs Wild, more survivorman as it's just him and cameras.
But it has its moments and I managed to finish it (which makes anything a 6/10 movie in itself If I dont get up and leave before its done out of lack of interest..lol).

I really liked Survivorman shows and les stroud. So figured I'd give it a watch as a comedy take on it.
It's about a fake TV survivalist being called out [I think a cheeky jab at Bear Grylls], and trying to prove he can really do it..and failing to over, and over again while alone and talking to a camera.
Not a bad 'indy' type movie with one actor in the movie. A bit cheesy, but what I expected going in.

Was expecting something entirely different (in the vein of Falling Down mixed with Happy!) yeah.. it's not even remotely close and far worse.

Mortal Combat: less than ok/10

Great, up until it loses ya in last 40 mins, but very interesting.

The Dead Pool (1988) - 6.5/10

They certainly don't make em like this any longer. The weakest of the DH series, but still a good watch, if only to see the very young, and inexperienced, Liam Neeson Smile

Mortal Kombat 7 / 10

It's atleast better than the shit from the 90s.
I actually gave it 2 extra points just for the sweep joke with Kano, I remember how many friends I enraged spamming it as a kid Laughing

Now when will we finally get proper movie adaptations for the better and deeper fighters like Street Fighter for example?

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Fun watch for sure. Everything in this movie is like a RPG, getting a party together, bosses, quest giver with epic quest and finding items.. Reminded me of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom a bit too, made me think that they must have watched this movie a few times.. Many great and charming characters, claymotion design was really good. 7/10.

Nobody. As generic as it gets, same old, cool fights that made me laugh a few times. I can recommend a watch if you have nothing else i guess. I'm not sure Bob Odenkirk really shined through here, not much to work with really. A guy with better physique could have perhaps made it at least a little bit more believable. 6.5/10.

Corsican Brothers - 2/10
I usually like Cheech & Chong...and i know i saw this one when it was released. But how wrong i was when i remembered it as a funny movie. Pure and utter crap.
It had 2-3 things in total that I laughed at. Could have been cut down to a 1min movie.
And the soundtrack...bloody hell..among the worst music ive ever heard in a movie. It sounded like bad midi-music from an adventure game in the 90s (i do like midimusic in those old games..but in an actual movie? NOPE!)

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Mortal Kombat 6/10
On par with Monster Hunter (which I actually liked a bit more, I think). It's entertaining for what you'd expect.
No tournament was a huge missed opportunity, though, and the main lead sucked (should have been Liu Kang or Johnny Cage).

The Vault 6.5/10
Entertaining in general, but also very unbelievable at times, in particular the final act. They just rush through it not bothering explaining how certain characters got away (which they couldn't, of course).

Also the main actor, Freddie Highmore, was absolutely horrible, jesus christ Laughing
No emotions, no expressions, he just stares with a constant, stupid grin. Probably just how his face is, but I wanted to punch it sooo badly Laughing
There is exactly one scene in which he laughs, and it looks like an outtake or blooper or something.
Far away from his acting in Finding Neverland.

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

The action scenes were really good (directed by guy who did Sicario 2 & Gomorrah). But story wise, we've seen it before. Looking more forward to the sequel, which should deal with Team Rainbow.

Completely different - the original was a mess, this is actually a good and epic movie now. For me the biggest improvement is Steppenwolf, the character and backstory are so much more fleshed out and he looks 1000x better than before.
It is not too long and very well paced too I think. Every character gets enough room and is important this time. Especially Cyborg.

Agreed. Much more enjoyable than the original. However

According to special relativity, FTL movement would also cause backwards time travel. It's actually an impossible feat i.e. movie bullshit, but it's what the math says.

He should in fact travel to the future first, possibly billions of years, since getting closer to the speed of light means your time passes much slower than the outside world. As soon as FTL is reached (impossibly), it flips back and all those billions of years flashed past again in reverse. Would have made for some nice visuals.

Tom Clancy's Without Remorse (2021) - Are You Serious Reaction /10
I found it to be horrendous and it's nothing like the book. Why even name it that. They even changed Greer to be the niece of the character and is a female navy seal. And the plot... less said about it the better. The mid-credits scene teasing the formation of Rainbow 6 LOL Expected more than this pile of pos from the guys behind Sicario, Yellowstone, Gomorrah.

1 and 2 are still amazing.
