If you do decide you might want to buy this, it will be in the May Humble Monthly so you may want to wait for that.

I don't get the lukewarm reaction here. This looks impressive as hell. I'm curious how noticeable the accumulation will be, will probably lead so some anomalies. Sill, lighting the game world that naturally in real-time, so that it reacts to changes in the game world, is a huge leap forward. And devs will have to spend less time tinkering with manually placed lights, leaving time for more important tasks.

You really think your average AAA games company will take saved time and re-invest it in something else than money or speed of delivery?!
Q: "Guys, look, more time saved due to this new tech! What should we do with the extra time instead?"
A: "Reduce resources used and work to deliver faster!"

yeah unfortunately that's the case.. games are only done so that they are "good enough" to get sales, no one goes that extra mile, that's why we still don't have either proper AI or physics. We all know it's not like games can't have that because reasons, it's just not worth the effort and the game will sell anyways, the bar is set so low for certain things in games that no one will complain or give a bad review.

It's very rare that i get impressed because with experience comes knowledge. So much of what has come and has been promised has also proven to just be a small spike, some trend that goes away faster than it arrived. Remember destructable environements, remember advanced physics, remember 3Dvision, remember....
The only really close to jaw-dropping demo / tech i've seen in the recent 15 years or so is the upcoming Unreal 4 engine which seems to be able to render almost unlimited amount of polygons. + load levels in an instant. That could be a game changer. If it really proves to be working in practice that is..

remember 3d tv's. Ohhh how people bickered and argued when i told them the gimmick won't last. And also VR. VR has a place in the future once publishers are willing to fork over some cash to make games that are worth it. That ain't today.

Worst reaction to this was on reddit:
"iTs So OvErExPoSeD"
"iT lOoKs dIfFeRrEnT iRl"
"jUsT tHe BrIgHtNeSs SliDeR"
Fucking casuals is why nobody is even bothering anymore while there are milestones happening in the 3D field.

Any reason to get this version if i have a non RT card(RX 590)?
More content or updates? Will this even work on non RT cards?

No to both, it's a big graphical upgrade but it doesn't touch anything else and requires ray-tracing superpowers (the link above has the specs + details as well in case you're curious).

Looks like if you want the FOV slider, you need an RTX card.

I'm really puzzled, what cards are they talking about:
3080? 3090?
Huh, what cards are these?

i still think the vanilla looks better in some places than rtx. rtx is the more tehnical correct but visually i like how the vanilla looks sometimes, in tunnels it has more tension for example
the better thing to do is do rtx from scratch, then you make the enviroment around the light so interior light is more defused etc.

The New version is broken as fuck. The rt tech is amazing but:
-It always starts in 1440p. It says 4k in menu but it;s 1440p... I need to reselect any setting and apply to be rally 4k
-SDR and HDR are both washed out grey piece of contrastless shit... Menu is great, Weirdly enough, mask on/off animation shows real black levels... so I guess it's a bug:

What is interesting is that - In original version, only HDR was washed out crap. SDR was nice and pitch black when needed (looks amazing on oled) but this new version is always washed out. True black no longer exists. I think it's a bug as seen in screenshots above.
And lol I am getting downvoted to hell on nvidia reddit for pointing this out. The new version would be much better if contrast/gamma/black levels were correct.

This has been a problem since an early patch. At least HDR was fine in the launch version. You can still get the original yarr version with proper black levels, but no new RT goodness or bug fixes or optimizations, obviously.

Well yes but You can't blame them. developing for pc is hell of random hardware and software. That's why console ports are often at least stable. (not always).
But in this case, they've not even tried. basic fucking gamma and resolution selections are broken...

Yes yes, there's always an excuse, yet some developers manage and I don't see the prices going down for faulty products.

Console ports are almost never stable, actually. You can go back and look at the entire gen for ps4 and 95% of games or more have performance issues on ps4. In fact, the fat guy from digital foundry literally said it like this, for Village, lets all take a moment to appreciate how stable this game is on series x and ps5, cause you nearly never get this on consoles.
The "console optimization" myth seems to continue though. When you can barelly find a single game that doesnt shit the bed on consoles and the caveat is you cant to anything about it.
