Anyone with VR played the Alpha? How does all the shooting and exploration on foot translate to VR? And how is the performance? And how the fuck can they finish up the game til 19.5? Is the "Alpha" in its current state so complete?
I was afraid that the nerds at Frontier never played a BF game before. And it looks like I was right... The first person (camera) looks and feels so unpolished...
The actual Star Citizen game you can play.
Poured some hours into it back when it was offered for free on EGS and wasn't disappointed, I was actually impressed, I'll try getting back to it at some point.

Other than the weapon changing and aiming jitter, watching them I actually prefer the alpha ones to the ones they compare with.
Realistic it's not for sure. "Clean and precise" it is. reminds me of the old-school shooters where sprites was used, and no 'artificially forced motion fuzziness to emulate 3d depth'.

not buying until proper VR arrives!
if that's not ever, then i guess i won't be revisiting
nerd rage aside, i'm having a hard time getting interested for this expansion. horizon itself was already a real stretch, and that seemed like it was going to be amazing. at the end of the day it was okay, but they didn't go anywhere with planetary features over a span of several years.
now they want to add another, finer layer (translation: empty layer), to the game?
if nothing else, at least they have the stupid feature creep in such a way that the game remains playable and cohesive, unlike star citizen
yeah I mean... I'm not sure who the people are who need some half baked FPS in their space sim? what is the point? I mean, there is some appeal to walking around in stations and into/on your ship and stuff but I'd never see that as a priority in my space sims.
Usually it only ends up disappointing me and seems like a waste of resources when they do that.
Remember X rebirth where they made a big deal out of it and how terrible it was when they already didn't even have the budget to get the space part right? its just not worth it imo
if I wanna play a shooter I go play a shooter. I'd much rather have more content for the space sim instead
more ships! more stations! more planet types! add research and industry and player stations! player factions! more thargoid content! how about we advance the story a bit after all these years lol
player colonies like in eve or something! anything!

i think it's really just public pressure, "spaec legs".. which seems to get players that aren't into space games into the fold. not likely to be successful, but maybe in the short term? it's pretty shit for people who just want the space game we dreamed of, unfortunately.

all of these sound too much like good ideas, denied.
much better idea to add some brain dead fps content that will do nothing for the rest of the game

I agree.
One must be a complete moron to ask for a 'half-baked' FPS experience in their space game.
Now, fully functional, immersive first person camera... that's another thing.
Why did Armstrong walked on the moon? Why didn't he stay in his vehicle?! Why GTA games allow people to exit their vehicles? Is it for a half-baked experience, or a PERSONAL involvement with the virtual medium? Is it the VEHICLE that plays the game, or the PLAYER itself? What's the most personal and involved way to engage an environment? The one that emulates / simulated and transposes your mind (and virtual body) directly into that fantastic world, I wonder? Why do people judge before taking one minute to understand the justified needs and pleasures of others?
My, my, my... so many questions.

Well now I'm not so hyped, and I had forgotten it remained separate for the time being.
Thanks to the Hump ! Just kidding, good points in there, but being able to really embody your character always sounds great. Not sure how much of it is the players pressure vs the devs' actual desires, though.
Let's hope they didn't divert all their resources to Odyssey and are still actively developing the rest ?

The assumed 'problem' with the game is NOT the first person recently implemented feature, but the whole project management by itself: no story, no content, hardly any updates to game systems, very slow development.
The FPS part comes naturally in such game. Will it be enough for people that LOVE space sims?! Of course not, as the space sim part of the game hasn't changed much and it kinda still is in the same place it was before Odyssey: very thin content.
Odyssey is not coming exclusively for old players. It comes for a NEW type of player, with the objective to attract more / new sales. There is a clear difference between the pew pew type of player and the space sim type of player. Sometimes they are the same. But that's quite rare, I assume.
Fair points, agreed ! And yeah, these two demographics don't really meet nor do they share the same desires. All in all, this expansion would have been best left for the end, there might be some need for some fresh cash in that decision.

@blackeyedboy
Agreed.
The lack of actual content, or features for players to fabricate player created content (like EVE) made me get bored with it in a month or so.
The saying about it: Wide as an ocean, but deep as a plate. Really seemed to hit me after that time.

DO NOT BUY AT IT'S CURRENT PRICE. $40 for an unoptimized, broken DLC. they said they would fix the lag from alpha. they did not fix the lag from alpha. wait for a sale
That's the primary issue for me with ED as a whole, more than the rather aimless and somewhat shallow structure. Games that have their "single-player" component strictly tied to online services and actually require them to function are automatically redirected to my personal shitlist.
It's also one of the reasons why I usually never spend more than five bucks on D-ridden titles, they may not constantly require an internet connection but they do need the periodic activation ticket (among the other things) or else they don't even start. Screw that. Digital preservation for life, men.

Odyssey currently sitting at 35% on Steam and rightfully so.
To be blunt the expansion is a disgrace. Not only is there little content but they also butchered parts of the existing game in the process. The lighting and graphics are worse, you cannot see engineering info on modules unless they are actually fitted, can no longer plot routes via bookmarks, the system and galaxy maps are now a bloated mess and the ui is so bad it's laughable. Things which were easy to do in Horizons now require several extra clicks in Odyssey
Performance is terrible, plenty of bugs, poor ai and the list goes on. What we got at release is pretty much an alpha/beta which will be worked on leading up to the console release in approximately 6 months.
