It's not aiming for realism, i'm fine with that.. i get a sci-fi comic book style vibe of it, kinda 80's , over-the-top..

What's with these updates though, did anyone ask for this.. i think they often put quite a lot of effort into things that doesn't really add to the gameplay. How about expanding quests, adding enemies, it's there the game is lacking.

Of course, i can only hope they have people doing that on the side, it's something that takes longer and they have been working their asses of while some other part of the team are doing these smaller things.. but that's probably wishful thinking. How many new bugs did they add with this that will need fixing.. I would stop adding fluff.

gave it a try or rather tried to...

Inside of 5 minutes, I had stuff vanishing (everybody around me had the same issue), like refiner with all mats inside while using it, puff, gone. A minute later, game crashes (ctd), also performance was rather bad.

I don't think this is fully "cooked" yet Smile

This has been the case with the last big updates, give it a month and it will have 1-3 patches.

I started playing it again a couple of days ago and I've been really enjoying it, until yesterday's update hit and the game started crashing like crazy. I'm finding the game itself a lot more fun and less grindy than the last time I tried it, way back.

Yep.

Tested previous update and had significantly lower framerates, even with PREVIOUSLY perfectly running (as in lower) video settings (not the NEW maxed out).

My performance is better but the constant crashing and disappearing objects is real annoying. There is an experimental patch that already fixes the crashing but I'm waiting for a public release.

I saw looking on Steam for solutions and someone mentioned disabling multiplayer for the crashes. I did it, let's see how long it lasts.

EDIT: Nope, still crashed randomly.

I don't know what to think anymore... since my last post it hasn't crashed anymore, kept multiplayer off.

Sorry, my head is full of brain farts.

Performance is better compared to previous big patches. Loading times are faster and FPS is more smooth. Sure, on Expedition game mode there are a lot of other players around and NMS handling of network traffic is what it is, FPS usually tanks when the game loads "stuff". And finally Hello Games has fixed the Terran Manipulator so it works constantly and you don't have to wait for the engine to load assets before you can dig holes.

My specs? 3900X, 16gb DDR4, RTX 2060S

Limited FOV makes my brain fart also.

But I understand the limitations they (self) imposed.

On my ultra-widescreen display - with a manually config edited FOV @ around 110-120 degrees - the performance takes a visible dive vs default widescreen. Apparently the extra stuff added to be rendered on screen eats A LOT of resources. Especially now, with the added 'extra' / ultra video settings.

I bet that if I keep the FOV at peasant console level default 60 - also called horse blinders' FOV - I'll be fine.

In the end, it still feels generic as fuck. It's the perfect example of how random generated to the max doesn't equals a good game. IMHO.

well, NMS is an extreme example, but it's not like the procedural generation here actually affects gameplay to any significant degree, just the shapes of the bits and bobs and what resistance hat you wear. it's a nice environment to roll around in and that's all i think they really set out to do - the gameplay is simply too sterile and list of random phenomena too small for it be infinitely replayable or even interesting Laughing

Yondaime wrote:
Yep, me and a friend decided to try it in coop after all these years.
I played it at release (for like 5 hours, terrible experience), he never played it.

We felt kinda done with the game after like 4-5 planets.
Since everything is randomly generated you just feel like it's all pointless to explore.
Random generation can work but it's gotta fool you, this game doesn't do that.

so still better than real planets then Laughing
i've found a few interesting planets but most are pretty dull and ironically many of them end up feeling very similar for a few reasons, and not because they are barren.
ultimately i think it's about finding your own discoveries within this procedural system, and they're not all that easy to find amongst the billions of combinations and it's only really interesting if you enjoy that sort of exploration - a bit like real exploration, quite tedious at times. only in nonsensical colors and flavors.

edit: for what its worth i have about 80 hours on NMS, so i think i had a decent run on it. it's not too much like other games.
