looks amazing.

demon's souls remake, as expected, is quite a bit better from a technical standpoint (sony first party money, system seller, ps5 exclusive, it was always gonna be better in that way), but I still prefer how this looks.
FROM's style is just perfect for me and demon's souls remake didn't really capture it imo

can't wait to dig into the lore especially. the world is already fascinating to me

There are enough older PS4 games that look better. And Sony first party money or not, this game is going to have a AAA price.

Probably they are not open world games or are locked to 30 fps?

I don't get the comparisons, it's a last gen game, so why is it weird that there are last gen games that look better?

i really have no problem understanding the disappointment of a game releasing next year on current gen consoles but is still a last gen title... yes this happens sometimes when development has taken a really long time but it's not like it was announced 7-8 years ago either, then it would've been easier to stomach.

On the other hand, their games has never been in the forefront for graphics.

well given other souls games let you teleport between bonfires there is no way this will be the case in their open world game.
what I expect though is a lack of map and markers.

I think with their games, the focus isn't necessary the gfx aspect as is the gameplay mechanics, how close and accurate they can get with the hitboxes, that's the challenging part - and I really don't care if the game is old or next gen.

I really think that if you're the type of player that bitches about gfx in a fromsoftware game, better not play it Reaction

Im used to japanese games, im already expecting relatively bad gfx. It's gonna look gorgeous overall, but if you look at details you're gonna find a lot is quite sub par.

Yep, that's precisely what I'm expecting from it, just the usual From goodness but on a larger scale - with the focus on rewarding exploration free from hand-holding and silly HUD elements that aims at surprising the player rather than just dispensing a bland checklist of level-scaled chores.

While the game won't be a technical showcase, one can already tell that the inspired art direction and design overall (as always) will more than make up for it. I'd be a lying hollow man if I said that I'm immune to the hype in this case, but I must keep it in check. Razz

https://www.ign.com/articles/elden-ring-miyazaki-hidetaka-full-interview-summer-of-gaming

https://www.pcgamer.com/a-huge-elden-ring-infodump-just-dropped/

A lot of information about the game just dropped:

Quote:
- six major areas that function as distinct dungeons, ruled by demigod characters (you don't have to follow an order)
- hub confirmed
- catacombs, castles, fortresses, mini dungeons etc.
- confident that Elden Ring will arrive on its release date
- character creator
- multiple endings
- much higher degree of freedom than before
- optional bosses
- Battle arts from DS3 return but are not fixed to a weapon (~100 techniques)
- Spirits can be collected and equipped apparently (summons)
- different types of spirits (use them for assaults, as decoy, for defense etc)
- Spirits can be improved apparently
- There are also rather useless spirits with other traits
- multiplayer support during exploration on the open fields (but you are not able to ride your horses in multiplayer apparently)
- ER is more "manageable" due to the many different options the player has but there are still many tough enemies
- fall damage is low to keep explorers motivated
- there is a world map
- the actual dungeons do not have a map
- crafting system with materials
- Miyazaki guesses playtime is maybe at 30 hours "without too many side trips"
- Asynchrous multiplayer elements return; you can apparently set up groups (with friends for example) and give their messages/dead bodies etc. higher priority (keyword system, no limit on group size)

Really, as if any other game would get away with that. Let's be realistic it's 2021.

Any other game wouldn't, because most other games at best have decent gfx to show and nothing remarkable in any of the more important departments.

Quite a bold statement but I guess that's the fanboy factor coming through. Wasn't aware it wasn't allowed to criticise the Hump's favourite game meanwhile the Hump loves to shit on everything

i really dislike low fall damage in games, it completely removes heights being a scary gameplay element. i think it adds a lot of atmosphere in dark souls, that a misstep can mean death.
if you want to motivate exploration, make the player explore how he can get down safely instead of just letting him jump without almost any damage? Rolling Eyes lazy design.
