I watched the E3 live stream and was very disappointed. They're taking the silly Lego expansion bullshit from FH4 and making all that crap part of FH5. And Mexico? For offroad/dirt purposes, sure.. But super- and hypercars?
I hoped for Japan all along but no, we get some dusty gimmicky stuff in a country where the roads have more potholes than swiss cheese.

Agreed, only the jungle peaks a little of my interest for offroad races, but yeah, not super hyped about Mexico either.
Since it seems this one will be coming out on Steam at launch.. let's hope its online will also be crackable, like FH4 ?

It's coming, they're still working on it and it's a game that is much more technical when it comes to realistic physics and handling compared to Horizon which is arcade racing using the Forza engine. Seems it will be a 2022 release.
I'll stick with FH4 until the FH4 servers are empty or shut them down if FH5 is just silly and boring. We'll see I guess. It'd be good if I could get a 1-month free Gamepass so I could try it out when it's released but I don't know if they are as generous with that anymore since they service is apparently doing very well with tons of subs.

But that lego part, as far as I understand, is some kind of a Trackmania editor they call EventLab where people make their own race tracks. Could be interesting tbh.
And it really looks like this game is more off-road focused. Even in FH4 it was almost impossible to drive hypercars on such roads. Maybe to compensate for the not that many km of asphalt straight roads they make that EvenLab thing. We know they can't go with total accuracy and put holes in every road.
Eh, I don't really care how arcade the game is, that's Horizon for you, it is meant to be rather brainless fun and that's about it. It's been the perfect game for me whenever I want to unwind and not rage at my screen because I needed to digest heaps of new content in order to be remotely competitive beforehand - I got Dota for that already. Pretty similar to former NFS games bar Porsche Challenge.
I agree that the EventsLab thing is pretty welcome, same stuff as the current events creator I reckon. It goes well with the arcade spirit of the game, and strongly reminds me of Trackmania/GTA5 custom races..
It's grindy as hell indeed, but I like the variety in events and whatnot. The game is basically meant never to end so yeah.. there's a grind. I don't care about unlocking stuff at all - not enough to actually do it. I don't really know wtf they could come up with in order to keep things interesting in their open world formula either.
For competitive needs, there's AC, ACC and the likes.
I'm not sure about the focus on the off-road part though, FH4 already has more than enough content for that, I don't really want more.. if anything, I wouldn't have minded some more asphalt races with actual circuits.

Going to check it out, setting is highly similar to FH1 (and FH3 with AUS) though, generally North America with the canyons so Mexico will be very same-ish but it will definitely give the racing time I need after FH4.
Thankfully with Gamepass it's quite easy to get a good look at the game for minimal spending.
WTF!, pinatas really? Estúpida empresa gringa hija de la chingada, vete a la verga con tu mierda "uy sí súper-creativa" de poner piñatas y que las rompan los competidores...

Same, I was hoping that turning off all the helps and using the "Simulation" setting could improve things but, alas, the franchise is just meant to be a very good looking bumper car experience.
It's a shame that we never had a modern open-world driving game with physics in it - unless we count the ghetto solution GTA V with ARS + Realistic Driving mod. There's a new Test Drive that's coming from Nacon, though they're using the KT engine from WRC so it's likely not going to be the most satisfying thing to drive either.
Couldn't pass up a deal via MS Iceland, around 62 € for the Premium Edition (https://www.microsoft.com/en-IS/p/forza-horizon-5-premium-edition/9mtlkm2djmz2) without the need for any VPN, etc. Was added straight to my german account.
Graphics are looking good, will play it on my PC and most likely enjoy it for the most part until Forza Motorsport 8 and/or the new Gran Turismo comes out.
It's not THAT bad, actually and that's me saying that, who's very picky about things.
The problem is, the faster the cars get, starting from Supercar, going to Hypercars and beyond, they behave not like "arcade", because "arcade" is actually quite good, it becomes "casual", as in Nintendo 64 for 8yo's driving physics and "Super Mario Kart".
There are many good arcade racer's you know... Sega Rally, Initial D, ...
The "lower end" cars are actually pretty enjoyable, I find.
So everything between D and A.
Completely agree, the S+ class supercars are just.. I don't know, but these genuinely don't behave like actual cars They're a pain in the ass to drive during the snow season alright though.
Rest is very enjoyable in a arcadey way.

The S1 class is pretty good as well, esp. in tarmac circuit races. You have to be fairly good with taking corners, esp. in the super-tight 90-degree corners in Edinburgh. S1 class is only fun/good on tarmac though. Dirt racing is only fun at B and A class. S2 is just silly since most courses are too small (except the big one that covers the outline of the entire map from start to finish). I do wish they had implemented a damage model that would truly penalize you for crashing (= DNF) to give it a more tense experience. I know you can enable some tweaks to affect the tyres but since that's a purely personal choice it's pointless since nobody else will use that.
Horizon 4 has run it's course though. I started playing it again (after ~1 year) a few days ago. DAMN I suck, driving like a noob. I reached 4☆ player level and League 11 in ranked and was pretty good. Now I'm back to square one. I had a list on my phone of which cars to use in each race form (circuit, street, dirt, offroad), ~4-5 cars for each class (class C, B, A, S1, S2), each specifically tuned for that form and class as well as weather (dry, rain, snow). I don't have that list anymore and I've forgotten nearly everything (although I have a ton of cars marked as favorites I have no idea which season/weather they're for).
The only form of racing in Horizon 4 where you can do somewhat serious racing is ranked. People tend to be more "professional" there since losing a race will cost you points and ultimately demote you to a lesser league. You need to reach at least league ~12-10 to find more serious racers. When you reach league 5 you're meeting skilled racers that have personalized tunes you won't find in the tuning database.
Anyway, I'm just playing some casual free-for-all races at times, some playground matches, the trial races and trying to break my own and others records (speed traps, jump distances etc.). I simply don't know of a single racing game that is even half as fun as Horizon 4. Being a 2018 game it still looks pretty damn good (it's been updated over time) while I run all the useful visual settings on max/ultra with perfectly smooth 60fps on my overclocked 1060.
As for FH5, the map is apparently only 1.5x the size of FH4 which is kind of disappointing. The first ~1-2 months the FH4 map felt quite big and varied. The more I played, the smaller and less interesting the game world became. I believed/hoped that FH5 would have at LEAST a map that was twice as big. FH4's expansions were crap, esp. the Lego shit show. The second expansion, Fortune Island, was a little better but ultimately useless as well since it's mainly used by drifters. You'll rarely find any people playing there and the main gameplay is basically finding and collecting crap. :/
I got the $1 game pass (1 month + 2 free months) and will take the opportunity to check it out. I guess FH4 will slowly (or rapidly) lose players to FH5 and die off just like FH1, FH2 and FH3.
