Never read the books but I heard they're good, but after that trailer it looks like some generic teen fantasy that I will be passing on, also looks very cheap.

As a fan of the books(well, most of them), it's a bit hard to review. They have done a lot of minor changes that irritates(many seem pointless, some change the lore in ways i don't like), they made it darker, probably going for some GOT vibes.
Read reviewers saying it feels rushed all the wau(think reviewers got to see the first 6 eps, hard to do 1000+ pages in 8 eps, will se what they cut out i guess.
Overall ok sofar, might actually have liked it better without reading the books.
Pretty average show. Too slow at times and 0 character development for the 4.
Now only 2 episodes left.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

What Rafe and Amazon did to the lore and the story is utterly disgusting and unforgivable..
The first 4 episode were OK\OKeish, but after that it went downhill so fast I couldn't believe it..and the episode 8 was the final nail in the coffin..
Man i can take this show seriously .... do these people ever heard of proper armor ? like everyone is dressed in bathrobes and no one is wearing a god damn helmet in battles while arrows are flying around ...
Characters are generic af especially the dragon derps .

Just look at the Netflix Death Note adaptation.
Death Note is probably the easiest adaptation you could ever make.
But they still changed a lot and fucked it up entirely.
These people just don't get what made the source material good, so they gotta put their own shitty spin on it.
Same with the Ghost in The Shell movie, sure it's not horrible but they could just as easily have made it 1:1 with the original anime movie and it would have been much better.
Ghost in the Shell the original kind of disproves your point since the 1995 movie is not exactly all that faithful to the source material. The movie tried to combine two stories and it did a decent job at it given it wasn't a simple task. All that whitewashing bullshit from the journalists didn't help with its success.
