Desperado (1995) 8/10

Classic 90s action flick, still great fun, still great music.

North and South (1985) 8/10

Only halfway season 1 (very hard to find good download source, unfortunately), but another timeless classic. While it very much romanticizes the period (everything looks very clean Laughing ), it doesn't shy away to show the harsh realities of slavery.

Stillwater - 7/10

That wasn't what I expected, but not necessarily in a bad way. A slow-burner where the main focus is the troubled relationship of Yes Ma'am Damon with his daughter and the emotional rollercoaster generated by the whole situation. It's charming and very much bittersweet, with good acting from everyone involved (including the little kid). Not without flaws, but ultimately the movie felt authentic which is what it was aiming for.

Don't Breath 2 - 5/10
I think it was ok if you suspend your disbelief.

Zone 414 (aka poor mens' Blade Runner) - zzzzzz/10

SAS something Netflix - I think I start to hate movies/10
It felt like tv series pilot that didn't know if it wants to be Downtown Abbey or action movie.

Mare of Easttown (mini-series) - 8/10

Not quite the most original murder mystery story out there, but the way it constantly keeps you on your toes by mixing its suburban thriller-ish atmosphere with charm and proper character development made the watch worthwhile. The acting is solid from pretty much everyone with grumpy scruffy Kate Mare Winslet definitely getting the spotlight. HBO's average quality has rapidly declined in recent years and the various masterpieces of the past are staring at modern shows from above in a contemptuous manner, but given the context, this was a pleasant surprise. A reminder that they can still get things right...mostly.

Malignant 8.5/10
best i've seen since the conjuring, more entertaining, great "twist".
Starts exceptionally creepy, but gets less creepy and more.. entertaining.

Very over-the-top and 80's-like, don't expect realism here (or exceptional CGI all the time).. Should put a smile on any 80's horror / gore fans face Smile

Above who gives it a 5 has no taste whatsoever. don't read the spoiler (which is a highlight).

Mad Max 1: 5.5/10. Too budget constraint and could really do with a reedit I think.
Mad Max 2: 6.5/10.
Beyond Thunderdome - A Mad Max story: 7/10. Didn't care too much about the kids, but it looked great and had a much better flow than the first two films.

Now onto Mad Max Fury Road Smile
E: also watched Fury Road: 7.5/10. Nice Smile

+1

It was awesome. Great cheesy 80s horror.

Thanks! I've been reading a lot about that era of US history, and it's a perfect complement.

I was expecting a white-washing of slavery aka "they had a good life with us" kind of BS, but they hit the complexity and excesses of that era pretty square on the head, and never shy away from it, quite the opposite.

I'm at S02E02, and they're making a pretty outstanding job so far. Nothing felt too corny or outdated. For something made 36 years ago, it's standing the test of time pretty fucking well!

And even the romance parts do not make me want to press the "skip" button, and that says a lot Very Happy

8.5/10 so far. Great job all around!

I haven't watched North and South since the late 80'ies when it was on telly here. It's a bit "over-dramatic/soapy" in certain ways but generally it's a pretty damn good drama about the civil war, the different viewpoints of people in the south vs north and how it can break apart families as well as the effects on slavery.

Finished with S02, and I would also score it 8.5/10 (instead of 8 before). Not going to bother with S03, I think, I remember it was pretty bad. No Patrick Swayze either.

Indeed, even the romance parts are well done. The scenery, the costumes, the ridiculously stunning actresses (Lesley-Ann Down, Wendy Kilbourne, Terri Garber).

Patrick Swayze is a weird kisser though, looks like a fish grasping or air Laughing

7.5+/10

I didn't expect much and I liked this flick. Maggy Q and Michael Keaton were pretty good and had great chemistry.

Nice action.

The ending was a bit disappointing..I expected

Prisoners of The Ghostland - 5.5/10
Made by a cult japanese director, this promised a lot. Nic Cage was over the top as usual, but some things were more than absurd and totally out of whack. Feeling was to watch something aesthetically pleasant but totally forgettable. Success!

Kate - 6/10
Nice envelope, sour taste. You've seen it before and you've seen it better. +1 for Mary Elizabeth Winstead efforts.
