I still have ol' Kingmaker sitting in my backlog, hopefully when I'll get to play this new one the patched-up Enhanced Definitive Plus Deluxe version will be available as per tradition Razz

I doubt they are going to patch Kingmaker again, unless they do a final round of fixing the console version (which is apparently still more or less unplayable) and carry across some of those fixes. But it seems unlikely at this point. Most of the problems that remain are of the broken class and ability type (all of which seem to have carried over to Wrath), and a lot of those problems can be resolved with mods. So I'd say give it a whirl and by the time you've done a couple of runs of that Wrath should be in a fairly reasonable state. It's already much more stable than Kingmaker was at launch, the new bugs they keep introducing each patch aside, certainly up until the final act at any rate.

I'm still on the fence about which is the better experience. Both have their good and bad points, although a fair comparison probably needs to wait until Wrath has a few more patches under its belt.

The alignment system in Wrath of the Righteous is the worst implementation I've seen in any game of this kind. It doesn't even make sense and it's so bad that you can easily lose your alignment in the most stupid ways.

If you set crusader mode to auto, you can't build forts (to rest at) or build teleportation circles.

This menas you have to go back to that one fort all the time, to remove corruption.

Rushed, buggy and full of oversights as it is, this game is close to an RPG masterpiece as a game can get. I say close, because I'm in act 5 and who knows what might happen next. But the way things have been going so far in terms of storytelling and c&c, I don't think it will fail me at the end. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'll be pleasantly surprised again and again.

I don't think felt so attached to a character since the days of my neutral Jedi following the teachings of Kreia and redeeming Visas Marr or since the days of my hero of Ferelden.

The writing is very uneven I would say.

Some quest lines are pretty good, some were written by a pre-teen.

Also fuck Nenio's quest what a fucking borefest slog. Whoever thought that was going to be fun needs to meet Camelia in an abandoned building.

Agreed. Had a blast with it. When taking to my son about our playthroughs, they were *extremely* different. It's pretty cool what they've done with choice and options. The fact that I could kill a very important character, then as a Lich, raise them from the dead to join me as an undead companion... just great.

The writing was ok, really well done at times, and not so great at others. It was quite verbose, and I'll admit, it was hard to slog thru *all* of the writing. But I haven't had this much fun with a true crpg in a while.

It's far from perfect, and certainly riddled with bugs, but nothing game stopping for me (and I even respec'd as a Lich which is often known to break progress).

But judged solely as a turn based strategic crpg grounded closely to p&p Pathfinder, yeah I might attach the masterpiece tag on it. (Though there are complaints... bugs, camera, bugs, inventory mgmt, bugs, Nenio's fucking quest, bugs, pathfinding... But none stopped me from enjoying the heck outta it for over 200hrs).

The writing is definitely uneven, usually related to some side quests. They focused more on the main story and the intricacies of the mythic paths system and how they affect the said story.

Most of the companions are pretty cool, but some have been treater better than others. Their quests however often lack mystery and thus is pretty simple to figure out what's going to happen. Mystery isn't a requirement per se, but it does help in character development and this is noticeable in some cases.

I also felt that sometimes there was room for more, like there were some missing dialogues or some extra dialogues could have helped.

On this front is definitely not PST, BG2 or Disco Elysium. But given the immensity of the package, some of these issues are easy to overlook. I honestly wish they would have taken more time to polish and refine the writing, quests and of course the technical issues. Some things will get better with the most likely to be released Enhanced Edition and I definitely plan to replay it in the future so. Too bad they decided to take a Deus Ex approach to post-release content and all the DLCs won't expand the game but provide enclosed scenarios instead.

Yeah, this is perceivable in the first minutes. And it was exactly this and not the complexity of the game systems that has put me down + uninstall.

Mixing ultra-modern expressions / language with classic narrative style and descriptive dialogue is a beyond cringe method to make shit accessible / create connections with caSuls.

But this is coming for someone that has grown up reading a lot (and I mean A LOT!) of universal literature. So, I am a rare bird, I know. Mobster with a Fag Laughing Probably MOST people will not even notice this and find it even accessible and cool.

This is clearly not made to be accessible. But you have to understand that a game is written by a team of people with different levels of skill and different styles. You make it sound as if this is bad writing which for the most part is pretty high quality with a few mishaps and shortcomings here and there.

The writing IS (almost forcefully) made to be accessible, and that's pretty obvious in SOME instances. And, indeed, this process is the one that give the 'uneven' vibe.

Bad or good writing?! That's incredibly subjective nowadays with large cultural gaps between Fortnite / CoD players and cRPG grumpy old men. It's hard to blame them for the cultural medium they live(d) in.

It's more simple (and less political!) than that, really: it resonates or NOT with me.

And in this case, it's... 'not that much'. PoE2's writing is still a (modern) benchmark for me, as - subjectively (!) - it reminds me of narratives I've read / experienced in the childhood days.

PoE2's writing makes an incredibly amateurish mistake that pretty much sections the game. While good at times, it's by no means a paragon of good writing, sadly, not even for the modern times. Sure, it's better than whatever people praise in Larian's games :lol, but not exactly what one would expect from a studio with such a history.

I like(d) it.

Because there's so much 'hidden' behind the walls of text. Character(s), thoughts, emotions, cultural 'traits', tradition.

It all started with Zahua and PoE's DLC (The White March).

EDIT / NOTE:

To be clear: we're not talking 'perfection' here. But resonating styles and certain values that one feels close to.

PoE is pretty consistent in writing and style but boy is it filled with self-indulgent drivel and walls of pointless exposition (even discounting the backer content which is on another level).

Both Pathfinder games are much better in this regard.

started a few days ago and about 6 hours in, 5 of those before this latest patch
having a good time
no problems with it so far

I understand though these kinds of games often start breaking more the further in you are as there are more and more variables interacting, and content might not have been tested as thoroughly further in.
