Didn't they a scene crack for this game to provide a "DRM-free" version? Laughing

Started playing this today. had to download a 16:10 exe hack, so steam doesn't show me playing.

and tages Reaction insta cracked it Very Happy

This game is pretty unoptimized. a 970 can't do 4K at constant 60 fps. only 3K Sad

that's 2 first world problems right of the bat. no 4K and no jelly steam friends. Dude Weep

But I have to finally finish this game for once. Never did in the past for some reason, though I loved what I played.

Still plays good men!

Damn right, Riddick is timeless Very Happy
Escape from Butcher Bay was and still is one of my all time favourites. Amazing sense of immersion, visuals (even today) and perfect blending of different styles, that 2004 had many excellent shooters but my heart was taken by this game.

Dark Athena couldn't replicate that magic, but it still had its great moments. ExBob was one of them Laughing

I think the coolest part of this game is that they managed to release a console port that was actually good on the PC, and the game came out of no where with it's awesome graphics and gameplay. I'll always remember it for that.

Finally got into areas i've never played before. Me Gusta

Kangaroo alien was introduced soon after.

It was both creepy and hilarious at the same time Laughing

But the game is still so awesome. the architecture reminds me of half-life. A giant industrial complex, with cool machinery everywhere. For some reason, that kind of setting gives me a nerd boner right away.

Feels so good exploring it. And the best part is, the game keeps getting better and better.

If you fancy adding this game to your collection. Name the game this screenshot comes from.

First correct answer wins. Key is redeemable through GOG I think (Good Old Games)

Very kind, now I am kind of bummed I did not see this post earlier as I was a fan of Legacy and having a nice legit Mad Max key on top of that would have been great.

Thanks for the offer but I already own it. It was part of the EA Humble Bundle so that is probably why you are having a hard time finding someone who does not have it yet.

Was kinda bored and made a comparison of 2004 vs 2009 versions from old screenshots I had laying around... don't ask Laughing

I still think 2004 is miles better. In remake they fucked up the hdr/bloom/dof and way too many specular maps. Also they changed combat and music. Both for worse imo. But remake does have some points going for it.
https://imgur.com/a/ctFnG

And both games work well with 240hz display. I remember having problem to run this game in 2004. It's so nice to run it maxed on at 240fps with 4xSSAA. Only 14 years later Laughing

I kinda like the old character models, remake improves some effects but yeah they really pushed up the whole specular highlight effect and made the dirty super prison super shiny instead. Razz

Works a bit better for New Athena being built from the ground up, Escape from Butcher Bay being updated from existing assets suffers a little bit compared with the original aesthetics.

EDIT:
(From: http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Spiele-Thema-239104/Tests/Vin-Diesel-then-and-now-682875/ )

I guess overall the skin and such is more realistic but I kinda like the early game engines implementation of normal maps and such.

Exactly. I like that early kinda plastic look of games like doom3 and riddick. It looks angular and more deliberate. In remake there is overuse of everything.
Exactly the same as halo1 and its remake on xbox 360. Simplicity of original graphics triumphs over ... Over detailization.

The remake did some things right but it's less than sum of it's parts. Dark athena looks good but game is not as great as butcher bay.

Too bad these games were never released on Steam and even the GOG license expired but at least that version can still be found in the wild.

They were on steam, however briefly, saw keys for upwards of over $100 a year or so ago, but those keys dried up.

I have a sealed box copy but it does not mention being for Steam so I guess I didn't realize there was a Steam release for the game. Looking into it though it seems the Steam version uses Tages that was never patched out and some people mentioned having issues running it recently so I guess finding the GOG version is the way to go if you want to play this game now even if you cannot buy the game anymore.

The remaster is so terrible, i mean they just didn't get the tone right at all, it's supposed to look muted and gritty, that's the whole tone for game, they just made it look generic as fuck with no style.
