Y'all just old and lazy and lost the ability to orient yourself in space.
I reckon derp games with follow the arrow / quest might have done this to you over the years...

lol, what a stupid take from what I wrote.
I've just finished playing through Morrowind with the MGE mod.
And for a more modern game, I also recently finished my playthrough of Hitman 1, 2 and 3 on highest difficulties without looking up the solution to any challenge.
In short, I love games that don't hold my hand.
I'm not saying it's difficult to find or orient my way, I'm saying it doesn't feel like the world is designed with vehicles in mind.
And I can't remember if the older Halo games were the same or not, but I remember enjoying driving around more in them than I do in this one. |
It's been a while since I played the previous games, but given they were on "simpler" hardware there is a high chance there was just less "clutter" on the maps.

I played it on Gamepass and found a few hours in the performance was crap. Installed the yarr version and no performance issues anywhere and finished it.

I'm assuming you had the HD texture pack installed. Even if you drop the settings, that texture pack still drops people's performance.
Only thing I had to turn off was async compute as it was crashing the game.
My specs:
Ryzen 5950x @ boosting 5ghz, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master, 128gb G.Skill Trident Neo pc3600 ram, nVidia RTX 5080, SoundBlasterX G6, Samsung 980 Pro m.2 1TB and Hynix m.2 1TB storage SSD. Custom watercooling loop.

What is this magic you speak of?!
Can you turn off the texture pack in the YARR version?

It would have been next-gen when when original halo was around. Its amazing that this game still requires pretty beefy GPU to run maxed out, not sure what is going on with PC hardware / game developers these days, to me it seems that they just bump artificially system requirements and graphics just goes backwards each "next-gen".

It's the law of diminishing returns. A 2x increase in computing speed doesn't make the game look twice as good. In the nineties it did.
How good a game looks is more about creativity and the amount of resources the devs have spend. Devs should not push hardware either imho. IMHO develop a game that can 4k (you shouldn't 4k but people want that stuff) 120fps with max settings on top hardware and make it scalable so it can run on hardware 2 generations old with 60 fps at ultra hd. Most people will be more impressed with such a game then one that pushes al the limits with details that waste GPU power but are hardly noticable.

Yes, but how about integrating this into gameplay now that technology has come far enough to properly do it?

2 also took part on a halo. Just not for many levels. It was a confused game which placed more emphasis on the arbiter and made master chief more of a side character.

Halo games were never a complete walk in the park. Plenty of encounters where single mistakes meant death or stealth enemies who stab your butt with their swords and one shot you.

This is ridiculously hard 3-4 hours later in game, two bullets and shield go beep beep beep, it smells like some copy protection trigger. I die with only two strikes with energy sword, cmon.

Were any updates released for the single player / campaign recently?
Mostly to fix the abysmal performance?
