Honestly, the movie isn’t a good movie. Once you look past the memberberries, its so full of bad cliches and missed opportunities its not even close to the first movie. Most of the actors are subpar. There is close to zero tension, action scenes are all over the place, very underwhelming, the design is just boring, and everything happens exactly as you can predict. Just wasted potential. |
Just finished it and I liked it. And I liked the Matrix trilogy back then and I still like it.
So funny seing all these chuds these days desperate for social points which makes them kneejerk and hate everything. I don't believe they liked Matrix back in 99 or maybe they liked because "Boom boom in the sky and bullet time".

It's a weird movie. Just came back from the cinema.
You know the saying "something is more than the sum of its parts"? It's the complete opposite case here, as in there are good parts and ideas in the movie, but overall, when looking at the whole picture, it was worse than you would expect from the individual parts, because the way they combine actually detracts from the movie.
Wasted potential for sure, and tons of inaccuracies and discrepancies in the lore that don't really make much sense, but would have been an easy fix.

Wasn't for me, but then I only liked the first one, this fell in the "more of the same" category for me, like 2 and 3. But atleast they had some cool action scenes in 2/3, here they were pretty laclustre. The Morpheus and Agent smith recast were pale imitations of the original aswell.
5/10-Could have been much more.

De gustibus non est disputandum.
But call others desperate for social points just because they didn’t like a thing you did is pretty dumb, mate.

This "Made for TV" ass looking movie would be a solid 4/10 if it wasn't pickybacking off of a legendary IP and was a standalone movie, but as it is shitting all over a much beloved franchise, it's no more than a 2.
I'd avoid it. What a waste.

I see them everytime a new movie or game is about to be released. they shit their pants with anger and regurgitate buzzwords before they have even seen any of it themselves.
And they have almost killed their favorite buzzword which is "Woke" by claiming pretty much anything new is woke these last few years. And if everything is Woke, then nothing is, as in the word hast lost it's meaning.
I'm conflicted because I don't know if I should laugh or cry

@maul_inc
Who here said they disliked over it being too woke?
You're jousting windmills here.
I didn't like it because its: "The best Top 10 scenes of Matrix 1, remix" with a thin wrinkly sheet of story haphazardly thrown over it.
They could cast the same exact people as the original for all parts, make them all hyper diverse parody characters or whatever. The movie itself, outside of who plays who is refried beans of matrix nostalgia heated in a microwave to me. If I had a urge to want to relive those scenes, I can just watch the first movie. I dont need a whole new movie to re-see them and memberberries over them.
For the argument towards those that didnt see it/pirate it: "You haven't even seen it and dislike it". If I showed you a menu with steak on it, and proudly and prominently advertised we include a topping of dogshit on the steak in the picture.
Can I argue: What? you only seen a pic of the steak and not even tried it before saying you would not enjoy it.

Watching it right now. Half of the movie and it's like something done for SyFy channel. There is one good concept of cooperation that could been made into a better Matrix movie like animatrix but so far it's just booooooring in every aspect.

Well obviously I did not single out one individual or claimed that it's happening specifically on this forum.
Having said that, I will say that even on this forum it often sounds like the Contrarian Olympics in pretty much every thread with some upcoming game or movie.
And that got boring years ago.
I hope I did not offend you by saying that, since this is a forum where we can have disagreements and not an echo chamber. At least I hope so?

This movie is ridiculously bad. It's unbelievable.I almost have to wonder, was the opening act with the gaming stuff and their publisher 'warner brothers' forcing the company to make the matrix 4 game a reflection on the reality and a deliberate sinking of the ship?
The last remaining Wachouski brother surely sunk this on purpose and put that first act in as a fuck you.

I myself think it's an genuinely honest attempt, but in earnest, to recapture what they had the first time, but by just redoing nearly 1 to 1 all the scenes that got popular the first time. And hurting the attempt to capture that spark/magic by doing so.
it's not reimagining or expanding upon anything enough to warrant a new movie.
IMHO opinion its the equal to a 'throwback' TV show episode where they try to bring in old popular characters, and story arches, and situations that everyone liked into one episode. Where the writers think it's genius by "give them ALL the nostalgia!", and the audience dislikes that episode for the rehashing of original enjoyable content into a safe bet pandering encore episode.

If that was directed at me. Nah.
VERY VERY rarely in my 20 years online has anyone genuinely offended me. Not that I dont love the guys here on this forum like a family of sorts (I have been here since..what 2001? 2003? can't remember).
But only people that can offend me are my actual immediate family. Friends, coworkers, online buddies, or whatever dont carry enough weight to be able to. (Don't mean that in a negative way, just I am [unfortunately] one sided in my caring of anyone but my actual family. I can decide/choose to care about you...but I could care less if you care about me or my feelings...now if you DO that's nice, if not..meh. I'll just turn the switch off caring back )

I respect your opinion, but. In the movie, Warner Brothers who hold the rights to franchise are threating them to make to make the fourth game, otherwise they'll get someone else to do it.
I think they nuked their own IP. On purpose.

@RMFX
I meant in the aspect of the initial attempt.
Starting with good intentions and all that. Like I feel Keanu and the rest of the original team did not set out from round 1 in an attempt to do so, they came into it with an honest attempt. It became what is over time by outside influences.

Matrix had a distinct wire-fu aesthetic, that was well thought out, unique and refreshing. You could see that in the movie, but it came across loud and clear from the trailer beforehand.
Just like now it comes across loud and clear, that this is B-side Marvel. Just look at the effects. Look at the quality of the actors.
Some things you can simply tell from trailers. Like the mood, the aesthetic, the atmosphere, the general vibe. |
|
having watched the movie now i still not got the full vibe that trailer had, in fact that trailer was better than the movie
the movie itself is very dissapointing, too much talk, bad action scenes and not that many, for someone who also plays john wick and does his own stunts keanu sure felt old in this.
very pointless sequel, there is no reason to make this unless you look at it at some type of reboot but doubt they will make more, the third movie ended perfect.
and wtf is with the full sense 8 cast in here
I can see your soul at the edges of your eyes..

I just watched it (4k, hdr release).
I am not sure if it is brilliant or super stupid.
But I certainly liked it and it felt shorter than 2 and a half hours.
But yeah, the trailer was better than the movie... and it's not the first movie. Nothing is

Just. I need time to put this in to words... Awful, awful movie. What a shit thing to do to the legacy of the Matrix.
It was pure cringe, start to finish. Just ... just fucking why? I can't figure out, if this was an honest effort or trolling. If it was just trolling, then it was simply bad. If this was an honest effort, then ... Then I have no words.
They took fuckton of really stupid ideas, mixed in like 2/3 good ideas (tops) and then created a complete mess of a thing. The world lost all logic, no consistency. Characters had absolutely no motivation, they threw random words together to create dialogue, and they couldn't decide whether they want to parody their own setting or what. The fuck was the point of Smith at all?
Simply put, it was awful. Awful, awful mess. No redeeming qualities in here, nothing that made the Matrix what it was.
The only goof thing about this carcrash of a movie, is that it makes the 2nd and 3rd movies a LOT better in hindsight.

I just read this on BBC.
Quote: | Did Wachowski really make the film to stop anyone else doing it? Maybe not, but it's hard to discern any other compelling reason for this solid superhero movie to exist. It might have been better if she had left the latest Matrix sequel to someone else, after all. |
As I said previously, I think that this was an intentional sinking of their own ship. What a shit show. Worst way to end or even begin a story arc. Abysmal.

It seems it is intentional sabotage by Lana. Wachowskies didn't want to do a continuation of the franchise. During filming when Covid hit Lana tried to leave it in dev hell and never finish but yelded to the crew asking to pull it through.
Quote: | Following the release of Revolutions, the Wachowskis denied the possibility of another Matrix film, though rumors emerged since then about a possible fourth Matrix film and the studio constantly expressed interest in reviving the franchise, hiring Zak Penn to write a new screenplay after the Wachowskis refused every offer to create more sequels. In late 2019, a fourth Matrix film was finally announced, with Lana Wachowski returning as director without her sister and Reeves and Moss reprising their roles. Filming started in February 2020 but was halted the next month by the COVID-19 pandemic. Wachowski toyed with the possibility of shelving the project and leaving the film unfinished, but the cast insisted that she finish it. Filming resumed in August 2020, concluding three months later. |

Eh, was an alright movie, expectations weren't high when i went to the cinema, so can't say i'm disappointed.
Some interesting ideas ( not even comparable to the trilogy ), but otherwise quite generic. The fighting scenes were meh ( we're probably used to mostly everything by now ), i got bored towards the end.
