Ugly render doesn't do the car (and the color) justice:
(this is apparently a us model with some orange strip, mine won't have that)
Have to check out if I really go for the plugin hybrid. If so I might even consider the touring version as the boot capacity seems to be heavily impacted by the added battery

It does look pretty dope... except for that front grille. I wonder if there are aftermarket/custom grilles for it that don't look like the exhaust of a hairdryer.
It is available in Chrome, which doesn't change the shape and does look equally equipped when you have the non-black rims. I'm on the fence... As for design, I think they grill is opening and closing air intake as required and thus has(?) to look like this? :/ (anyway, I like it )
The grille looks alot better then the grille they put on the M3/M4. So, yes, nice car. Way out of my league though.

Isn't that because it's still the old design? They haven't "modernized" these models yet.
This G30/31 had a facelift like late 2020. The "new" G60 will be presented 2023 but the car is already driving around and it doesn't look that different and it also features the wider and not taller grille (like 4,7, X).
Don't congratulate me yet, I first need to get this past fleet management
I also feel a little bit bad because my fil drove his 528i basically until it broke down (he fixed it several times and replaced a ton of shit on it). He wanted to get a more recent 530/540 but as they were just too expensive he leased a vw passat... And while the 2L Diesel is saving him a ton of money he reaaaaaaally misses driving a BMW 5 series.

I wouldn't ever be able to purchase it myself but there are some heavy government incentives for companies to lease cars, so my company changed policies and I just have to care about the taxes, which are 50% if you pick a phev over a regular fuel based model!

Back when I was working for BMW, i kept telling people that once you get used to driving a BMW, it will be very hard to enjoy another brand which is a direct competitor or anything budget. But, this mostly applies to people that like to drive and don't consider cars just means to get from A to B.
So I feel your father in law

Good on you. Will you pack the interior in plastic tarp?
My Exeo TDi is almost 11 years old but it still runs good and has had a new timing belt at 170.000, so I hope to keep it for 5 more years at least.
I find todays car market a bit overwhelming considering all the technologies available.

@couleur, there aren't that many new technologies around. Other than the somewhat mandatory safety regulations ( blind spot assists, safe lane change, collision detection, etc ), in order to get 5 stars at the NCAP tests, nothing is very very new. Every car company calls them differently, but they are not developed in-house - the tech is buildt by companies like Continental ( yes the tire company ) and others.
ICE engines are mostly the same as they were ages ago, the only difference is that they made them work with some small size electric engines, or medium size or even full electric - which is a gateway for car brands to actually fit within pollution levels.

...and that's what matters - that you like it. Other peoples opinions means nothing.
(And I'm more than a little jealous, esp. with such a luxurious car that will probably give you driving orgasms for the first two years as if it was your first car ever. I can't even afford buying and/or owning a piece of junk from the 90'ies these days due to insurance fees, road taxes and the ridiculous fuel prices not to mention getting any repairs made. The most "luxurious car" I had was the top of the line Citroen XM with the best and most comfortable leather seats I'd ever sat in combined with the other luxuries that came with that model as well as the amazing hydraulic suspension where you could drive over speed bumps without barely noticing it at all, making the driving experience sooo smooth and comfortable with the option to switch to stiffer suspension for great handling at higher speeds including taking corners. It was also very handy to be able to lower and raise the car, esp. when switching tires or changing brakepads/discs etc.).
