It's basically the same concept as Far Cry Primal or New Dawn, the only difference is they have left Valhalla in the title. Don't like it? Don't buy it on release. We've all been around long enough to know how Ubi's releases work. This will be cheaper than the ACV Season pass in no time.
Personally I'm a big fan of AC and Ubi SP games in general, but I barely played anything in 2021, despite buying WDL, ACV and I:FR. So I've got more than enough to keep me going while this and the other rumoured standalone title featuring Basim release and drop in price.

Totally agree.
I will likely get sucked into this down the road as usual (even though a lot of small touches in Horizon Zero Dawn made me wonder: "Why do I even bother with AC?") but no point in buying at release
I try to get into it again every few months but it's too generic. It's the only AC game I own that I've started but haven't been able to finish. As per Ubi tradition, the writing and characters are TERRIBLE, so that doesn't help either.
Even your usual shill review outlets are unimpressed

A fantastical setting and solid story can't disguise the fact that Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok has us running through the same motions as the main game a year and a half later.
Follow bjorn.. Follow bertha.. follow a fucking cricket and enjoy the trite conversation along the way... This shit is so tedious i'd smack the dev team twice if i could. Dawn of ragnarok so far has been follow one person for 5 minutes, fight one boss, follow 2 people for 5 min, fight a boss, follow these 2 people again for probably 5-10 minutes. Jeez
Also good job introducing some female.. well she was more male than female and make her so bossy and unsympathetic they could, just to kill her. Did i feel sad? nope! i was hoping for her death for 5 minutes of following her and listening to her crap.

Why has "follow the NPC friend" become such a thing all of a sudden? Who consider that a gameplay element that players wants more of?
Do they believe it emulates multiplayer or playing with a friend?
I have no idea. But what i do know is that it's boring as hell. They're always slow and it all too often last too long. There are probably like 7 sequences or more of following people. Third person now before you can set out on your adventure. Absolutely insane if they think that's an enjoyable way to start the adventure
Check out the Forgotten Saga a new free rogue-lite mode coming to Assassin's Creed Valhalla in this trailer that was shown off during the Assassin's Creed 15th Anniversary.
