Some GFX comparision by user "Blackened Halo" on the steam forums Source
| Quote: |
1. A battle
Comparison
I am comparing the PC version, the PS1 emulated version and the PS1 version. The remaster looks 99% like the emu version except two things. The remaster has slightly blurry textures, only slightly and the main characters are much better than they look in the PS1 emulated version. Better details, they look much naturally and more vividly. Kid´s hair is fantastic as well as her dress.
The HUD is nicely clean and sharp tho the font again... They used a narrow font like in the Pixel Remaster series and it is not as iconic as the original PS1 font.
2. Kid and Serge on the cliff
Comparison
Here I am comparing the PC version, the PS1 version and the PS1 version with Gauss blur effect. The reason why I chose this effect was that Square used the very same effect when "improving" Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. As we can see, the remaster works with a different method. AI? or some Nearest Neighbor process? I am not sure.
3. The Village
Comparison
In this case I am comparing the PC version, the PS1 emulated version and the PS1 emulated version plus Gauss blur. This comparison proves again that Square did not use Gauss blur for the remaster. The PC version screen is taken from a video, so it is slightly blurry. But even now we can see that the NPC characters look totally like their emulated "brothers and sisters".
4. Serge
Comparison
In the final comparison I am comparing the PC version, the emulated version and the PS1 version. Serge has nice textures in the remaster tho his face looks a bit different. It is more narrow when coming down from the nose to the chin. But I guess it is still good. No, I do not want to recall the butchered Squall from FF8R. That was horror. |

Square and cheap? Are you nuts, men? Or was the price already confirmed to be lower than 90€
Anyway, in time some will apply some deep learning AI magic to the 2D backgrounds and do the actual work that the lazy greedy assholes at square are not interested in.

Huh, didn't expect the price to be so low. Still, will wait until the modders do their magic, even though it will probably be a long wait.
