Sad that George Lucas didn't recive one for starwars on the makeup i think he deserved that, but yeah Momoirs of a Geisha sure has alot of makeup to but nowhere close to Starwars in my opinion, even the commentator on swedish television, "oh they robbed georgoes only chance for an oscar on starwars ep.3 what a shame..." and it really is.

Crash won? Nah, it's good but just another movie about racial issues, not to mention the fact that the movie was using cliche moments to tell you exactly how you supposed to feel. Nothing real special there, Brokeback should have won.

dunno, I found crash very surprising since all my cliche expectations vanished 10 minutes into the movie. And one of the best movie about common racism ever!

Well, not for me. Somehow the movie feel forced, you kinda know from the beginning who's gonna get shot and where the friction will be, filosophical talk from the first moment of the movie didn't went in either and the tarantino approach is always good to see, but it ain't special. And worst moment was when the racist women huges her housekeeper and saying 'your my best friend', that made my teeths crack.
Its still a good movie and may deserve that oscar, but not with Brokeback as fellow contender.

everyone can have a different opinion, but everyone will agree that brokeback mountain is far more predictable than crash, and that crash had more emotional strengh than brokeback

The Bullock elements were the least good in that movie though still I couldnt see the twist coming.

I was very happy with the oscars this year.
The Presentation was funny and intelligent, and 2005 was a good year for movies anyway.
I haven't saw Brokeback Mountain yet, but Ang Lee is a great Director and i think i'll like it.
The only (little) letdown for me was the oscar for Reese Witherspoon,
Felicity Huffmans performance was the best for me, she should have been nominated for best
actor too
I think hollywood is on a good way

This is pretty good:
The Worst of the Academy Awards ... Crash is there
http://www.filmsite.org/worstoscars.html
I liked this review too
Quote: | easy and self-congratulatory liberalizing is the epitome of the film. To my mind, Crash's central message is: There's a lot of racism in the world, but it's all rendered meaningless by a magical force. This force is called sheer coincidence. I'll happily spoil the denouement for anyone who hasn't seen it. The racist white cop (Matt Dillon) sexually molests a black women (Thandie Newton), but is really a good guy because he saves her from a car crash (oh, and because he loves his ailing poppy). His partner's (Ryan Phillipe) anti-racist protests are really irrelevant because he ends up killing an innocent black teenager (Larenz Tate). Meanwhile, a rich, racist white woman (Sandra Bullock) unfairly suspects a Latino locksmith (Michael Pena) of being a crook, but it's okay because her Latino maid (and best friend) takes care of her when she injures herself. And on and on and on through a "compassionate conservative" rainbow of cast members each with their own neatly moralistic (but totally individualized) racial melodramas. As with the well-awarded musical Avenue Q, the moral of Crash is: Don't worry, everyone's a little bit racist. |
