All talk about the camera. What is wrong with these devs ? How do you do this perfect in the first game then fuck EVERYTHING in the sequel ? How did they play this in the last 3 years and not see it ? Jesus christ
Even more incredible, it's (at least) the third time! Gothic 2 to 3, Risen to Risen 2 and now this. Nevermind EA, rockstar, whoever, reeeeeesetera jason "jase" schreier needs to get to the bottom of what's going on with the PB franchise fuckup cycle Laughing

The problem is in sequels they sometimes tinker with the stuff people liked and break them, while leaving things people didn't like alone Very Happy

Risen 1: Great game, Gothic-like stats, lacking endcontent.
Risen 2: More endgame content, but generally WTF?
Risen 3: Nice again. Humanity/Soul system makes no difference.

Elex 1: Good, but no endgame content. Cold /humanity is again pretty meanigless aside from allowing you to not kill your manlet brother and locks you into endings. But at least you can't easily get more emotional if you've finished with quests and ate too much autism inducing Elex. Camera is fine.

So after a few more hours I can safely say, that Elex 2 has a lot more interesting quests than Elex 1. Sometimes it is just go there, kill that, but more often than not it's more interesting. Even escort quests" have a spin on them. And while there are still some dialogues that probably sounded better in German (or maybe not), some conversations are genuinely engaging.

It's also a bit easier, cheesing everything with my shotgun atm Very Happy Does way more damage compared with a similarly specced crossbow. Either it's broken, or maybe the damage is calculated per pellet (which would be cool)

I caved in and bought this for 29€ yesterday like I did with every PB since now. I had 1h to play and I've got to say...

... I can't stop collecting trash and picking flowers again.

Right now the biggest technical problems are:

a)the uneven performance - almost no difference in fps between low and high

b)the graphical glitches - textures / models randomly dissapear, mostly evident in bigger cities but can happen even in the country.

I have to admit being a PB fanboy so I buy their games to support the studio since I enjoy their games no matter how bad the press is. And it seems like it will be the same here. I also disable questmarkers and try to find locations based on dialogue etc.

But you go ahead and isodemo. Why spend money on something you might not enjoy?

With isoDEMO i actually meant demo. I loved gothic 2 to death but havent played a PB game since. So while the supposed shortcomingsof this game sound pretty bad tbh , i am still weirdly attracted to at least give this a try Smile
If i get hooked ill buy it

If you haven't, I strongly recommend you play the first Elex first. This one is full of references.

Also play Risen 1, its one of their best games behind Gothic I and II.

Yup, the first point definitely affects my potato. Aside from the new camera and mouse smoothing which are just as silly as everyone said, it's bizarre how the game looks about the same as the first one while performing at half the framerate. It must be the new tired faces that require the extra computational power Razz

I loved ELEX and I couldn't wait to put my hands on this one, but alas, I'll have to temporarily enable once again the patient bear mode. Hopefully, the Piranha men won't abandon Jax despite the rather lukewarm (but expected) reception and sales figures.

Now I remembered I didn't play the 3rd game... But doubt it's better than the first Risen but probably above 2.

They released a patch ... on consoles. They claim they're looking into things on PC. Trying to improve performance. The game ends up in the high 40's on ocassion, in towns.

People are pissed on steam, from their stagnating gamedesign since forever, to not improving in any area after decades and so on. If the team really is only 33 people, as documents from their owner says, why make such a gigantic game where nothing is polished or tweaked ? Risen 1 had a great scope for such a tiny team. More constrained gameworld, that can be handcrafted better.

Elex 2 doesnt even have their usual strenghts. The world is pretty barren and boring to navigate. Towns are pretty empty. Gothic 1 feels more alive and rich.

https://elex.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Patches

It had 4 patches, but it was also a bit different then.

PB is no longer an independent studio, they're part of Nordic/Embracer.

Back then they would release a game and immediately start working on a new one, now they might have resources for patching. Looking at other releases by Embracer's studios shows that is definitely possible.

Same here... i agree, graphics and performance aren't great and i had to apply a FOV fix but since i don't really care about graphics i'm okay with it. I pirated the game though, if i bought the game i would be livit.
