They scrapped those plans for the three acts. I think the early plans for ACT I + ACT II and some from ACT III morphed and eventually made it in the main game, and whatever was cut was added later with the DLCS. The dog mechanic was definitely one of them. Basically, KCD is all those three acts. KCD2 might not even continue Henry's story, but it likely will. Early rumors said KCD2 might take place during the Hussite Wars.

Do we even know if we'll get KCD2?

Although a lot has changed over the years and we've only got rumours/speculations so far about the future project, I'd really like Henry's adventures to continue - also considering the game's cliffhanger-esque ending which definitely carries the potential to present interesting scenarios for a full-fledged sequel.
What we do hope however is that the new game will partially correct the mistakes of the past by finally featuring Slav Moors as well as charmingly relatable Cumans and a thorough objectophiliac romance with Sir Radzig's ze/xe sword ~ current year journoarticle generator #432

If they do a direct sequel to KCD (rather than an indirect with a different character potentially), I wonder how they'll explain away Henry being a complete beginner again.
No explanation? Amnesia/a bad bump on the head? A bad injury + several weeks of recuperation and weakening?
It's admittedly not something most RPG sequels bother explaining, but it does make me curious.

well Hussite Wars are what the always wanted to do and KCD did lots of preparation for that but given the tilelime of KCD and timeline of Hussite Wars ... they might keep them for the third game

what i fear here, now that they are owned by Deep Silver ... is DS forcing them to make it more casual

I suspect the first KCD was probably too niche, sales-wise, to bother with a direct sequel. Especially if they are going to console it up and turn it into Elder Scrolls Bohemia.

The game sold well considering it's a niche RPG:
Quote: |
Within two weeks of release, the game sold over a million copies in total across all platforms. A year after its release the game had sold over 2 million copies. In June 2020, Warhorse announced that 3 million copies had been sold, with 1.5 million copies of additional DLCs.

It sold better than expected. They targeted 1 - 1.5 mil copies across all platforms.

Yeah i sure hope they get a better engine like UE4/5 this time going with cry engine for a game like this was such brain fart but ofc a new engine also means they would start from scratch and we would probably end up with the same result |
Daniel Vavra has rather strong opinions on most engines, he used to post quite frequently on the Codex where similar arguments used to rage.
From his perspective an engine has to allow minute adjustment of cutscenes and dialogue scenes or it's not worth using. If he was a film director he'd probably be a bit of a Kubrick perfectionist type.
No reason why they couldn't recreate what they have on CryEngine in other engines, but it's whether it's worth it from a cost/time perspective. It sounds like they customised the hell out of CryEngine.

It sold very well for a Czech indie dev. But I doubt Koch will be satisfied with such small potatoes, since a repeat dose would probably barely recoup their investment after distribution fees and taxes.

The raging, coping and general butthurt alone when the sequel is announced will be *chefs kiss* |
Pissing off resetera (and the usual suspects) is a pretty good marketing tactic tbh. Can't wait to see Vavra come out swinging again.
The man doesn't do quiet PR that's for damn sure.

Don't tell me what that twitter post was referring to was just the physical dice game they're taking preorders for?
I was actually hoping the last bit would be a KCD sequel, so I was slightly disappointed by the Elden Ring announcement.
I blame you Warhorse twitter guy.

How does this run with a 3070Ti / 3080?
Is Ratay-by-night-in-the-rain still raping the framerate?

Kills my 3080, cuts the frame rate from ~120 to maybe 50 - 60 at times, even on the approach to Rattay from the north. It gets lower in Rattay. It's a bit random.

Bastards...
Hm, I assume you set EVERYTHING on ULTRA but the game still trolled your GPU. Also 1440p? Ultra-wide?
I remember there were some "optimized settings" to make the game run more than decently even on a 1070Ti. But I guess ALL ON ULTRA is still out of question even on a 3070Ti / 3080.

Nah not ultra, no way near it. 2560x1440
I played through the entire game on a 2080 at med-high settings. Then I tried on the 3080 when I first got it, it felt about the same

9700K both times, and that would definitely make sense since it's OrlyEngine which has been like that for as long as I can remember

Makes sense to be the CPU... Just look at the framerate (in battles) when many NPCs are around.
Btw, as a side-question, @Interinactive, did you undervolt your 3080?

12700K + 2070 - 1080p High with medium lightning and it still sometimes tanks FPS to 50 in Rattay.
Sometimes fps go low in strange place where they shouldn't.
Of course night in Rattay must have lights on medium, otherwise hits ~40fps.
During the day and outside Rattay solid 60 almost all time time (besides strange place as I said above).
And cutscenes in 30fps... damn, they are so annoying. Some are in 60, some in 30 :/
