Well mvvl1, since you haven't played the X COM games, you would'nt know that they are all (atleast the 1. and 2., the good ones) turn based.
The description could be of an nival game like Silent Storm, but I can't remenber hearing of a new release from them due in 6 months. Also, the Silent Storm games had a Sci-Fi twist after some game-time (URL for Silent Storm: http://www.silentstorm-online.de/main.php?lang=en)

'Got better reviews than SS itself down here in Russia. I'll explain what's the problem with it getting low reviews abroad: it's mentioned nowhere in the game itself or in the manual or on the box, that it has the biggest non-linearity ever. It's the only game where each choice (how u talk, what clothes u wear etc) u make influences the storyline. It's the only game where all that bullshit they promise you (non-linearity) in ads is REALLY implemented.
So due to lack of explanation about this main feature, many reviewers didn't even get to play the whole game - they went through some shorter path with a mild ending without realizing how deep it is.
H&S is not about new GFX, new weapons (although there are many) etc - it's about gameplay, realism and multiple choices with multiple consequences.
It's a jewel, a masterpiece. It got better local reviews than SS because it took the original game to some new level from being just some Fallout Tactics/Jagged Alliance clone with physics and shaders.
And as to the topic itself, it's also a russian RTS game about red army in WW2 period vs. aliens that landed in siberia or smthg. I'll try to get a name soon.

It got better local reviews because the russians are fucking biased!

total bs. u speak of what u don't know at all. local games usually get devastating local reviews (well, they ARE bad, 95% of russian/ukrainian games). so far only smthg like Cossacks, SS and Seadogs ever got more than 7/10 or 8/10

Well, I can't agree on Hammer and Sickle, but this was another discussion. This "Syberian conflict" seems to be real-time too. Is the demo worth trying?
