With 77 reviews counted, the film boasts a stellar 96% (8.5/10) on Rotten Tomatoes, putting it amongst the year’s best films and in line with Cruise’s last action blockbuster “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” (97%/8.4).
All reviews strongly suggest seeing this on the big screen if you can, and more than a few have higher praise for it than they do the original Tony Scott film.
Back when I first tried 4DX, I thought it was a load of crap, and that I wouldn't go for a 4DX screening ever again.. except for a movie featuring dogfights and combat planes, where it could actually make great sense and enhance the experience. I'm wondering whether I should give it another try for such a movie

The dude's batshit crazy (as I'd imagine we'd all be if nobody called us on our bullshit and we had that amount of wealth), and his lauding and promotion of a predatory cult is unforgivable, but I'd be goddamned if with that craziness he doesn't maintain an almost insane "zest" for life. I wish I could be that excited about absolutely anything anymore.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

If it weren’t for his stupid cult, he’d be my favourite celebrity.
How does his cult in any way influence your enjoyment of his movies? It's not like John Travolta doing Battlefield Earth to push the cult agenda. Most Cruise movies are good, and those that aren't, aren't for mundane reasons of it being a flick with Cameron Derpiaz and/or bad script, not because of his cult.
Yeah seeing mission impossible trailer explains his outburst on set about covid protocols.
Several countries, gotta obey the rules or production gets shut down and people don't get paid.
The only movie that pushed his cult agenda was war of the world's and it was just one or two lines about healing. That's it. His personal life has no involvement with his movies and he doesnt push it. He only pushes his insurance company.

Exactly. If you worried about WHICH crazy "The parable of how some super powerful creature from the sky we never seen, made us" cult an actor/actress was in, you'd have a hard time finding any of them to like.
Each one believes insane unbelievable stories. Just he's part of one that hasn't been around long enough yet to be normalized to us all

Just as crazy to believe in some fantasy man up in the sky dictating everything that happens, as thinking aliens exist or that we live in a matrix. Not exactly sure what the scientology people think
@Stormwolf
That aliens came, and our souls was placed on this planet and 'born' into the creatures we are. And that we are audited to see how well we are becoming 'clear' (ultimate goodness..sort of).
Dont see how that is much more ridiculous than:
That god came, and our souls was placed on this planet and 'born' into the creatures we are. And that we are judged to see how well we are free from 'sin' (ultimate goodness..sort of).
SUPER simplification of both. But what it boils down to: Same same religious dogma just with different verbs and adjectives, and one has another planet involved. (But in both, THIS is the super special teacher pet planet out of all the ones that exist)
Reminds me of this joke:
If you said God came to you and spoke saying to start a orphanage, everyone sees it as normal. BUT If you said God came to you and spoke thru a toaster, saying to start a orphanage people think you are crazy. Why is the inclusion of a toaster seems to be what makes it absurd?
Same here, the inclusion of aliens as the whole 'super being' isn't what makes it ridiculous to me.
Spoiler:
Because the idea to go "Thats crazy!" when you think its normal and accepted people think:
A being, made you out of dirt, then your first wife out of dirt [Lilith]. Then killed her because she was 'too curious and refused to be submissive to the male' so made ANOTHER one out of your rib and told you not to eat from ONE tree, but got convinced by a snake to eat from that tree, so super being gets mad and punishes you and all your children for all time because of it. BUT then sends himself, to be killed as a son of himself, to save you from the sin he made you have from the talking snake sales pitch...So you can go to the place he wants you to be, despite forcing you to be born excluded from that place unless you admit you are born a piece of shit and grovel saying sorry you made him killed himself, to save you from himself...
Is PRETTY hypocritical

And both have the same issue. Who placed the aliens souls? and who placed the souls of the ones before? Had to have a start. Same with any god. Existing forever isn't possible.
Yeah i see where your going with that, i guess its personal preference for everybody. I don't rate Tom Cruises world views as worthy of boycotting his content and I enjoy his movies, other people may not and I don't give a shit.
MJ is a very different comparison. Still he was a one of a kind entertainer and everybody enjoys his work. I also think he was 100% ped, the most famous clear ped that has ever lived. For whatever reason it was accepted by society, crazy to think about, but it is what it is.
Believe whatever you wanna believe, with unlimited power he chose to enamor himself with 7-10 yr old boys fact. He also
- paid off the boys families, isolated their children from them.
- openly sleept in the same bed as them.
- take many dicey photos with them holding hands and flew them all over the world.
- was litigated (and settled / paid off) multiple times for ped activities.
- have 5-6 different kids he went out of his way to court with his fame accuse him of ped activities.
- One of the kids draw the skin discolorations of his penis at trial and it was confirmed by poilice photos.

he's just eccentric! please..
Oh dear goodness. He was a complete monster!
Such a monster that once people who accused him got paid off they stfu and went their merry way. I don't know about you but if some rich dude molested my kids I'd be happy with a few bucks and not putting the scumbag in jail. Y'know? Priorities right. I guess after the kid gets molested nothing worse can happen, the seal is broken, so money is the only solution.
Turned out bunch of kids were coached by the cops/parents who were adamant on getting rid of him and getting his monies. He was a creep. But not a kiddy diddler. Maybe a wannabe diddler. There's no actual proof he diddled.
I saw this yesterday. It's very nostalgia driven and makes a lot of parallels to the original movie. Maverick has more depth as a character with him being haunted by the ghosts of the past. However, the mission is over the top and the real action oversteps the boundaries of realism. I wasn't a fan of some moments when CGI was used. But I still liked it, it's definitely made for older generations.

If he fucked these kids im pretty sure his career would be over.
