I really recommend just suffering through the initial stages on hardcore, because the game becomes much easier after the big lycan attack and even hardcore isn't very hard.
You can skip the first lycan battle by running inside the house and grabbing the bolt cutters, which despawns the lycan. Then it's just one more short fight and then the big lycan attack, which you just gotta run around for something like 5-6mins and then either get hit or reach certain predetermined locations to trigger a cutscene. For me, it activated when I reached the roof of the house you can climb on from the inside. No need to waste ammo on that section.
Yea, but the thing is, the cutscene just don't get activated, I may try more times, I hope I havn't encountred some bug that prevent the cutscene being activated
Edit: never mind finally happened, looks like you need to let yourself getting hit by arrow.

That was the main issue of the beginning of the game. You waste tons of ammo or medicinal stuff only to get the arrow to the knee and then all ya items are LOST. Wonder if you could just stay there waiting and see if you die or whatever...

I just installed a Trainer to get through that stupid section. I tried a dozen times but never managed to survive long enough on hardcore. God mode solved that.

Finished the Romanian lycanthropic isotrip, what a bizarre beast. A hodgepodge of setpieces strung together with duct tape, with ridiculous storytelling and with more cine-scripts than the game actually needs, but it did fundamentally feel like a Resident Evil title. A good one, too
There are old-school-like sections in it, action-y ones inspired by both RE4 and RE7 like a mold-infused hybrid Salvatore, boo-based PT-like bits thrown in the cauldron for good measure, influences from classic adventure titles and even a crappy Cow-a-Doody section (quite short, fortunately). The exploration is satisfying, and the gritty atmosphere along with the noninvasive HUD/lack of guidance can lead to surprising ha! moments when roaming through the interconnected village. On Hardcore - the recommended difficulty if you want to avoid the Robocop syndrome - it requires a bit of strategy as well, albeit you never really run out of ammo and resources unless you're a lousy stormtrooper.
The visuals are more than adequate and so is the performance on the Lady Dimiempress' version (even my very ageing rig could afford 60fps on a combination of Medium and High settings), and after some adjusting + mandatory FOV tool the controls felt quite alright as well. Whether it's in first-person perspective or in third-person one, when RE's gameplay loop works as intended it always rubs me the right way, as long as we're talking about its proper implementation and not the aberrations of the RE5/6 era. Alas, Capcom have never ceased being bellends and I won't think about buying this for a dollar unless they fully remove its malware, but..I genuinely liked the game. Hope they can keep the streak going. 8 Lei/10

Ya on-point.
I had to force myself through RE7 to be honest, I didn't really like the FPS style, setting or story. This game though, which I've only just started playing, is masterpiece level. One of the few titles to justify an expensive recent GPU, it just looks goddamn amazing, I find myself wandering around just taking in the setting (probably only about halfway though).
Like you say the gameplay isn't bad, its pretty linear and feels on rails at times, any changes would wreck the cinematic feel to it so I don't know what you could differently. The polish, art design, and setting borrowing from multiple genre's it's just awesome. I can't think how to improve this game outside having standard difficultly slightly more punishing for a new player, its really 9-10/10 material game for this genre.
Agree with you both, just finished this yesterday.
Crafting is however super unnecessary in this game. I played it on hardcore and if you are conservative with ammo and dodge many enemies, you have more than enough. I never crafted a single piece of ammo and only like 5 healing items. They should have just gotten rid of that.
Dodging is also super easy when you get used to the fact that enemies basically don't attack if you don't look at them. Their aggro falls to something like 10% if you face another direction, so just keep moving and look another way, or concentrate on the one enemy you want to take out.
I think they should have added a few more straggled enemies here and there. Basically it's more or less
1. accumulate ressources
2. get to enemy arena
3. recover from arena fight and gather ressources for next arena
The older style RE games were good at slowly gnawing at your ressources here and there, but this game is more focused on set peaces which basically leaves all your ammo/health intact until you get to another room full of enemies. Also you feel rather "safe" just walking around because it's highly unlikely an enemy will pop up. A few random enemies here and there could have avoided that.
I ran into one glitch where I could more or less despawn all NPCs (so enemies and animals) from the village. It worked by going back from Luisas mansion to the "church" and opening the map repeatedly. When it doesn't work just reset, the checkpoint that is being set if you return to the church is the perfect spot. That way you can avoid a certain trigger of enemies getting spawned. I only managed to reproduce it 2 times. though.
Regarding the story, I just hope they don't try to turn this into some "origin story" or "cinematic universe" for the survivor.
Overall, this game feels pretty much like the same continuation from RE1 to RE2. Compared with with the "intimate" RE7, RE8 is more action oriented, but also larger and more expanded. One will see if RE9 will fall in the same trap as RE3 and becomes a cheap follow-up (possibly with the survivor as a main character) or if Capcom manages to get their shit together and make another great game.

I didn't like RE7 and wasn't sure i will like this one, but it's really one of the best in series. I only remember being this satisfied with RE4 and RE5.
Also i runs good on my RX 590/R5 3600, played it on 1440p and runs quite good.
I actually watched a couple of hours of all main games and to date i think the Village is the best one. I mean back then RE4 was amazing, but now it's dated both graphically but more importantly the gameplay is well to me impossible to play. Then if i go to recent remakes.. i also disliked them for their gameplay, combat and tiny inventory, same for RE7 with it's poor selection of enemies (tho characters and setting are awesome).
So Village for me is all wanted tbh, you have your combat areas and horror areas, combat feels great, and after upgrading your weapons you don't need a thousand bullets to the head for every single enemy.
Bosses and mini bosses are awesome, story and setting as well.
It's just a complete great package for me, will most definitely buy the gold edition later on.
I played this for a while and the atmosphere was really great. Graphically it feels quite dated but I generally don't care as long as it doesn't look like something from 2001. I stopped playing though since I already have a few other games I'm playing. It was basically a "check it out for an hour or two if it's something I want to keep".
I thought it looks great most of the time with a few exceptions.
But for every part that looks not so great there's a part that looks outstanding, like dimitrescu's castle. several reaaaally good looking spots in there.
But I just really like the art style in a lot of places. FromSoft vibes, foremost bloodborne in the village. it just looks good to me. and there's so much clutter and blemishes and stuff everywhere.

Finished this lastnight.. my god what a pile of garbage... that ending
graphis alright sure cant say it looked ugly but still playin RE in first person just doesnt feel right and it was a big mistake introduce lame Ethan from nowhere, would been alot better if u played as Chris or someone else from the older games..
RE7 was so much better in terms of horror and suspension... this is just meh.... really dissapointed Dimitriscu didnt have abigger role i thought she would last longer not just during castle.. so fuck u capcom
It's a solid 8/10 graphics-wise, but I think it gets dwarfed by Metro EE or Cyberpunk in their full ray-traced glory.
But then graphics are certainly subjective, at least to some extent.
Metro EE looks like garbage compared to RE8. Metro has these washed out lowres textures all over the place, guess you should stop hittin the Crackpipe before playing.
Uhm, okay... I guess you see what you want to see. IMHO Metro Exodus is graphically and visually much better. Besides, it doesn't have the bugs that RE:Village has (no idea if they're patched yet).
The art direction is so good, a RE that is not crossgen would look so great.. Hopefully within the next 2 years.
Doubtful next gen consoles are still very hard to get these days as are gfx cards (sigh ), so anything not running on old gen would be financial suicide for most multi plat AAA studios now and very likely for the next 2-3 years.
By then the situation should have improved enough to make it worth it to even just start working on titles like that, so maybe in 5-6 years next gen multi platform titles could actually be the norm.
It's also the first console gen with full backwards compatibility making this choice even easier for the Publishers. PS4/XBone will be relevant for much longer then PS3/360 where because of that and there is also the Series-S to account for.
There is a huge demand for more (which is a good thing) but a lot of units have been sold, and it's only going to get better.
This is great but as i said you have to look at the whole install base and the fact that the PS5 plays PS4 games without a hassle same for series-s/x.
I know enthusiasts don't really like it since they want to see their shiny new toys in their full glory (me included ) but cross gen could last much longer then usual this gen for various reasons.
