What a bitching news Very Happy

So, I've been working in the acquiring sector ( cards (physical) and ecommerce payments).

Began in the second half of 2018 in a shitty joke of a company in that sector, being hired to basically make coffee and sort the mail, after almost ending up homeless.
Then I went to work for one of the largest banks in EU, thus the world.

Now I've just been minted manager, bypassing several promotions.

It's my proudest achievement yet, that no one can take back. Mind you, I've ZERO higher education: high school + a certificate to be an electrician's assistant is all I got going on, edu-wise Laughing

Proud because I was always discounted as being worthless, proud because I'm a lazy piece of shit that somehow still managed to push himself forward always, and, most of all, proud because I did so always helping others and sharing my knownledge around, not by demeaning nor walking over anyone, not at anyone's expense, ever.

So yeah, I'm happy Smile

hey, being lazy forces you to being creative and look for solutions to free up your time!
good for you!

my parents always said I'd get nowhere being lazy and playing computer games - dropping out of uni..
those same games got me to know PCs, run a game server based on a SQL, and now being a lead for a small SQL dev team Very Happy

Even if you dont have education, even if things are good now, try to take some courses or invest in your Resume, now that you have money etc, dont sleep on it, we are in a tough economic time and it might be good to add stuff to your education background now that you can, than later, when you might not have the money/job or time is tight.

Future proof yourself, but, congrats, always good to hear people breaking through challenges and odds.

The hard work was dealing with myself. Work-wise, if you're working hard, you're doing it wrong, imo (on tech-related jobs, at least) Razz
ALWAYS find a way to do the exact same job as anybody else, just easier, faster, and, HALLAMDULLILAH, better.

Might have taken time, but now you're in a lane you're comfortable working in skill/interest-wise, and that's better than being stuck somewhere because... because why, exactly? Because someone/society/x expected you to follow a straight path?

Tell me that, having followed your own path, and reaping the benefits of it, you're not better off and happier now Razz

EDIT:

Great company, it offers paid trainings, high level shit, counting as company-time, etc...
I made sure to follow the GREAT advices you just gave.
Never rest on your laurels. Even if just promoted, I'm planning on first getting good at the new thing while learning, then in 6 months I'll start aiming myself at the next step.

Senior MT at the bank itself/C-class in an offshoot of it before I'm 40.
It's not enough to be hungry, you have to justify the hunger, and the size of the meal required. And that's an odyssey in and on itself.
And I love playing on hard mode Laughing

That's the hard work part. Because if that wasn't hard then everybody else would probably be where you are Very Happy

Nice! You’re “débrouillard”!

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

@Hubu

Gratz mate.

Sounds a lot like my story. Till 3 years ago i was at home being depressed as fuck for 8 years straight after i lost my company, i didn't leave the house unless for groceries. I have no schooling or certificates or whatever so i thought i was fucked for life.

Somehow found the motivation to start working again and started at the company i'm currently at with working for free. I worked for free for one month and got a contract for a year. I also had to start out getting coffee and shit for others Laughing.

Every half year i got a promotion and now i am a project leader and run my own department which currently is the most profitable department of the company i'm at. They even gave me a Tesla Model 3 half a year ago. Couple of weeks ago they told me they are considering to promote me again to become a manager of another department which includes all the people i was getting coffee for when i started out Laughing... i'm still considering it but i'm not sure if i wanna make this step.

you know what you're doing.
if you can handle managing more teams then go for it.
if you cant, decline. it's that simple. you already know what failure feels like, it's the driving force for your success. keep at it. keep your head high.

Oh, man, that's the sweetest part: I'm a one-man team. I can deputize people to help me Very Happy but that's it Laughing

Merci, gros + Ducky Pumpy!

Alors j'ai aucune réponse définitive à cela, vu que je crèverai un 'work in progress' Very Happy
Mais le truc du "responsabilité personnelle constante", ça a l'air de payer Wink

Alors, bien sûr, j'espère que personne ne pense que je m'emballe à donner des leçons, ici Laughing , je partage juste mon expérience Smile
