This shit is finally coming to Steam.

From the FAQ:

Can I use my current Guild Wars 2 account to log into the game through Steam?

No, if you have a Guild Wars 2 account which was created through the Guild Wars 2 website, you cannot log into it through Steam and vice versa. You will need to continue playing on your account using the client from the Guild Wars 2 website. To be able to login from Steam, you must create an account via Steam and use the Steam client to log into the game.

Can I transfer my current Guild Wars 2 account to Steam?

No, you cannot transfer a Guild Wars 2 account created through the Guild Wars 2 website to Steam and vice versa.

Exactly, it's a pathetic excuse by the devs.

I've got eso btw and would love to have the steam version, but I don't want to buy another copy. Can you emigrate your account to steam?

Nah you need to buy a steam copy to use the steam client but only the base game everything else is account wide.

This game is really really good. And really complex too with all the specializations you get from the expansions. A million different ways to play your class, whatever it may be. I'm loving it.

I haven't played this one, neither the 1st one (or any other MMO apart from WoW on a private server something like 15 year ago). Is it still worth a shot once it's out on Steam?

The first one is not a typical MMO RPG, it's more of Path of Exile concept of hubs interconnected via instanced "tunnels" where you or your group do the grinding. Plus, GW1 looks much better than PoE or similar grindfests.

It's pretty shit overall honestly but has some really loud fanboys for some reason.
I actually tried a few time getting in to it but absolutely nothing about it is fun to me combat is floaty and spamy, crafting sucks, story is not even worth mentioning and don't even get me started on the monetization they just get away with it because they point at the games horizontal progression.
It certainly shows NCSoft is pulling the strings in the background.

Sure. It's a good game, really. Can also be played as a SP experience.

It's not THAT perfect MMO that some people are hopelessly still waiting / looking for, but there's plenty of good stuff in it. It's one of the few MMOs that really respects your time.

Try it for free, see the combat, the world, the gameplay systems and if it clicks, you're in luck. If it doesn't... who cares? Laughing

It depends entirely on what kind of MMO you want.
GW2 is fairly unique in its design approach.

It has horizontal end game progression and it's focused more on exploration and completing various achievements, gathering/crafting cosmetic stuff, completing jumping puzzles (some are absolutely brutal) and other miscellaneous activities.
There is grouping content, but there's tons of stuff to do end game without that.

I'd say it's absolutely worth trying the game.
But it's definitely divisive.

The only thing I don't like about GW2 is that it looks fairly dated, but I can look past it with everything else being good.
And besides, most popular/good current MMOs look dated so. Sad

For my part, I love MMOs that I can play singleplayer (I don't necessarily enjoy grouping with people, but I love seeing other people in the same world doing their own thing).

Of course there's also Elder Scrolls Online, different in design to GW2 but can also be played like a singleplayer game with a share game world.

I think GW2 and ESO share a lot of similarities, i personally don't like the combat in ESO either but i prefer the quest design and story which are very well done a shame the overland is so piss easy even by MMO standards this coupled with the lackluster combat kinda kills it for me as well.

Honestly, it depends on what you care about in the game, there is a whole lot of grind and time sinks at endgame.

For the mastery points, once you've got the low hanging fruits, you need to go achievement hunting.
Crafting ascended gears require to craft a limited amount of ascended material each day, and you need to buy/farm the components.
Legendary items are basically inaccessible for people who are not super engaged and in the game.

I hope you like to grind a shit ton if you want the flying mounts not to mention gold farming for other stuff especially if you want to exchange for gems and trust me there is stuff you absolutely want from the shop.

It was a pleasure to get the mounts, the legendaries and mastery points. Why?! Because there was never a pressure to do any of those things.

It was never painful nor a forced grind for me, and I got 99% of everything I've ever wanted in game (TP included) via daily logins, alt parking and TP flipping.

Guess I was "lucky", wasn't I?! J Browman

Now is a bad time. As always, next expansion and early crafting or material selling. Also auction house farming.

I mean sure if that is fun to you more power to you and i guess it's probably not so bad for veterans who stuck with the game for the last decade or so but as a new player it's definitely a bit overwhelming and cumbersome.
Of course there is no pressure to do any of that but then again why even play the game?
I mean it's not like there is anything else to achieve you just farm and grind some stuff and achievements you like to have and most of the time this comes down to grinding gold in GW2 from what i saw.
Dunno maybe i just never really got the point of the game i guess horizontal progression and such are just not for me and the F2P/B2P nature of the game certainly didn't help.

The game has plenty of issues. The combat system didn't deliver. The PvP is a joke. The inventory management is a mess and they keep spamming all kind of crap to make it even more overwhelming. Even the name isn't relevant.

I had high hopes for this, but it ended up only being a decent MMO that failed to deliver on its many promises.

I am sure you'll survive without playing GW2. Besides, the next WoW expansion is around the corner. Cool Face

Modern WoW... don't remind me. Laughing

I'll just stick to FFXIV i guess, luckily patch 6.2 drops tomorrow.

The way you put this is pretty much a strawman. I offered valid criticism.

I don't think I'll touch MMOs anytime soon. I might give Ashes of Creation a shot and maybe Riot's MMO in a distant future.

'You are ugly'... 'I am vaild'... same old, same old from you... Always a manifestation of a bruised ego. You are so damn predictable, man, that it's almost disappointing. Why did you HAVE TO CHOOSE the 'strawman' variant instead of seeing this a friendly conversation?

Here's again my statement + imagine we're having the discussion FACE TO FACE:

The game simply isn't for you, lads. I personally like it, but that doesn't really matter now, does it, as each of us plays - anyway - whatever we fucking like.

Good man.

That 'modern wow' concept almost made me puke. Gated flying mounts, ilvl scaling, convoluted story, toxic community...

This is only true for pvp.. if you ask me, its quite the opposite for pve. I got more than 4000 hours in this game and I'm still not bored of the classes. Especially the guardian and the engineer, they're pretty inovative and fun to play. Way better than other MMOs, where everything is a borefest to me.

I was looking at the Steam forum for GW2 out of curiosity since it finally was added there after 10 years and it was quite amusing with people calling GW2 a failure because only 3000 people are playing when they compare it to Lost Ark and its 100k average players.

It is dumb to force people to make new accounts on Steam to play GW2 as I know people posted work arounds but still, why didn't ArenaNet just make a universal launcher. It seems like they are kind of shooting themselves in the foot right of the gate with that move on Steam.

Yesterday´s steam concurent users = 3.7k. In the same time, random GW2 twitch streamer viewers = 20k. More people watching streams than playing it over steam, thats amusing Smile
