So besides being more portable, what other advantages does this Deck offer that, say, steamlink app doesn’t do? I ask cuz I’m always looking to enhance my gaming experience beyond just the office and steamlink has been pretty good/easy for this approach and stream the PC to a tv in another room.

You don't stream on the Steam Deck, the games are installed and played locally. Very Happy

Anyone else having issues with their alt Steam account? My mate called me earlier to say he tried to buy something from the Argentinian store but for some reason his country had defaulted to "UK".
I've just tried logging into my Arg account and it has done the same thing. I have a balance still in ARS$ but when I go to buy it's wanting me to pay in dirty £'s

I'm kinda weird? I like watching TV while gaming so if I steam link to my livingroom....well ya. There's that issue. I re-binge a lot of shows I've already seen, with chemo it's fucking up my memory and attention span so watching anything new is pointless.

So I can watch shows I've already seen on my recliner and game out at the same time. When I'm in chemo, I can game out and pass the time.

Yesterday chemo kicked my ass from every direction, laid in bed and just gamed out, I don't have another device to steam link to as my shield is in my livingroom and I'm not going to keep unhooking it. I got a roku in my bedroom that doesn't support it. BOOM Steamdeck.

If I'm out of town, I don't need to grab all my shit for my laptop and find a place to set up. Lay back on a couch, boom STEAM DECK.

Pooping? STEAM DECK!

For those who have to ride the bus and shit and wanna kill time, STEAM DECK!

Got a Nintendo switch you use often? Just throw YUZU on the Deck and you got your switch and whatever portable needs you had for it.

But also, it does steam link as well so even though I have my games installed locally, if there's something heavier I wanna play and I don't feel like getting out of bed when I feel like shit, I can just stream it from my system to my deck.

Clearly not everyone will get a use for it. If I wanted to spend the money I could just hook up steam link in all my rooms but eh, too much cables running around already and the TV in my bedroom isn't all that great and I don't feel like spending money to replace it.

Thanks Spykes! Appreciate the additional perspective and can totally see your rationale. With work and family life so busy at the home front, I guess it wouldn’t make much sense for me at this time but could definitely see it’s advantage later on when the were all traveling more.

We currently use an appleTV on two tvs in the house and that’s also how we stream everything so no real extra cables beyond that single unit. I then Bluetooth the ps4 controller to the device and launch steamlink. Aside from some occasional hiccups possibly due to whatever interference is going on at the time, it’s been pretty good for me so far, especially with action rpg games.

Edit: meant to wish you wel with the chemo, too. We recently paired up with a local bbq restaurant owner and did a lemonade stand while he did the bbq. All of our proceeds were donated to a child in our neighborhood fighting cancer. She’s at St Jude now for her latest treatments.

Such different outlooks for gaming.
I can totally see the appeal of it to those that find places to use it. And for Spyke's situation its perfect.

But I cannot think of one I would.
-Pooping? I can go 5 minutes without entertainment while I poop..haha. It would just make me take longer in the bathroom and then purposely jsut sitting there not on my PC using it.

-Game somewhere other than my PC? Why would I want to, if I have time to play, why decide to play on a tiny screen with my thumbs when I could sit down to 2 ultrawide monitors with mouse, keyboard, joystick, hotas, and driving wheel?
Sure "because its a more comfortable place to game" I guess. But then I would just spend that $400 on a comfy recliner for my desk if it was uncomfortable at my desk.

-Out somewhere where I cannot access my PC? Then I am there for a reason and purpose and not gaming because I decided to do that instead. Razz

I sit at a PC for at least 12 hours a day, the last thing I want to do after work is play games in the same position

The Deck is great for that, plus it helps me divide up what I play. Deck = everything that's not fast paced FPS/RTS. I tried to play a COD game I missed years ago, then Terminator, but they're awful with gamepad controls.

Having gone away last weekend, it was also good to have at night before bed

See I am the opposite I spend 8-10 hours for work at my PC, first thing I want to do is enjoy my PC for gaming 5-6 hours a night. I get off at 6pm, by 6:10 I got some fresh tea and a game open.
To me (just my outlook) its like saying: I drive my Ferrari 2 hours each way to work. Last thing I want to do is get on the highway and have some fun with it in my own time.

It might also be most the types of games I play, a handheld would be horrible for. I couldn't see an enjoyable experience trying to play cities skylines, roller coaster tycoon, project cars/automobilista, arma 3, or MS flight sim (etc) on it.

Fair point. Getting old sucks doesnt it?..lol

But thats why I force myself to exercise. Be it messing around in the workshop, or walking the dog, swimming in the pool.
Now do I do it so I am healthy? or because I want to live a longer enjoyable life? or for my own physical well being? Nope. I do it simply for the fact I can sit at my desk and fuck around in games or with friends in games longer until 2-3 am most the time, with stuff hurting 'less' than it would if I didnt exercise...lol.

like even outside of the usecases SpykeZ mentioned.

After my few weeks with the deck , i realized that i tend to play compeltely diffferent slate of games on it than i play on the bigscreen.

All them metroidvanias, roguelikes, jRPGs or even some older AAAs (Dead Rising, Enslaved, ) are games i have built quite a library of over the years , but up until i had a deck i rarely tried to play on bigscreen .

In Steam client I can still buy games using wallet with turkish price but if I open browser - all prices are listed in € and upon purchase window I have to select other payment method (wallet is not available).

The pooping was a joke lol, on the box inside it tells you all the places you can enjoy it and one if them is "on the toilet" lol

Yep, kinda what I use mine for, a lot of those isometric, or Metroidvania type games are what I end up playing. Playing the shit out of Cult of the Lamb ATM, what a fucking fun game

Im sure someone uses it while they poop.
I was amazed how many people drop a load and game, or drop a load while in discord/teamspeak once wireless headphones became popular.
Maybe it's my group of gaming friends and my sons friends, which by extension of both of us gamers are also my friends, and how non nonchalant some of them are about saying something like: Going on mute, pinching one off.

One of my sons friends Bailey (one of the guys that I game with too, and do woodworking shenanigans with in my garage) has no shame in it. He will straight up tell us so. Like one time playing ARK he said "Dont kill me or my dino's you dicks, I am in the middle of making a log deposit at the bank".
