Good idea!
Papa played games like that in his youth. May I give a try soon.

Well, your dad sure knew what was up back then!
It's great advice, so feel free to follow it Very Happy

*sigh* Fucking Minsc. I knew he'd be in the game.

The Bhaalspawn dies an ignoble death fighting the worst, the most jokeworthy of his half-siblings ever and Bhaal returns, but this dimwit gets turned into a statue and revived in the current era.

I don't like any of the characters in the EA of the game. They are so... forced / clichéd / unremarkable.

This didn't happen with Planescape, BG1/2, POE1/2, Pathfinder.

/sigh

The characters of bg 3 (dos2 as well) cant get near to the classic infinity engine games.
I even find some of them really awkward. Now i fear that theyll ruin the memory of minsc...

I have no doubt that they will do that. I mean, they just showed Minsc without Boo. That's like showing Han Solo without Chewbacca.

20 years from now, I doubt anyone will remember any of these new character's lines like they will Minsc's or Irenicus from BGII.

At least it'll be fun to play

Play BG or BG2, it will ruin your memory of Minsc. Laughing

It's all nostalgia. BG was groundbreaking for it's story for a RPG at the day so Minsc as it's comedy sidekick gives us good memories.

20 years from now nobody will remember BGI/II anyway, except us old farts.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Damn whipper snappers have no excuse not to experience the classics. BGII is near the top of many 'Top PC games of all time' lists. It has also been re-released on almost every modern device known to man

That's all Minsc was supposed to be. A giant, short tempered muscle-bound dope with a soft side. He was written as such and it worked well. I think you'd have a point about it being nostalgia if there weren't so many well written characters in that game.

So, I had the chance to try the game in its current state last night... and wow, how are they planning to go v1.0 in 6 months? Laughing

The intro/tutorial is horrible (especially all the cinematics, which are useless, but at least the animations and the grimaces the player character makes are utter shite), it has performance issues (yet looks completely crap at times), and more importantly: bugs galore. I didn't want to play too long anyway, but I quit for good when my party of 3 was ambushed (and nearly killed in 1 turn) by 6 enemies shooting/casting through a closed door with no LOS, and also just rushing at me through said closed door without even opening it... And then I realized the game made the last autosave on the beach, right at the start.

Also, as mentioned above, the NPCs are just meh. I wouldn't even call this a half-baked game right now.

I find NPCs quite good comparing this game to Fortnite and abysmal compared to original BG games.

That's disappointing to hear, though not unexpected. Given the legendary status of the franchise, I was hoping they could properly invest in the writing department in order to (finally) raise the bar, but they simply hired the ex-RPS guy and mostly just went with what they had.
The rough parts will eventually get fixed even though that will mean waiting for the Enhanced Edition Deluxe Plus 3.0, and I'm confident the gameplay loop will be as entertaining as ever with its solid turn-based sauce and high level of interactivity alongside the thousands of barrels™ Cool Face, but of course the storytelling won't be fixable by patches.

I started a second BG2 playthrough just a few days ago (after about 20 years since my first one) and it really is impressive how nearly every single interaction includes something interesting/unique, with a style that has the right amount of verbosity and characters that instantly come off as remarkable. The world has a constant thick atmosphere surrounding it, which makes it feel tangible and mysterious. I'm still very much looking forward to this DOS3-in-disguise, but yeah, my expectations will have to be adjusted accordingly Razz

TBH, I wouldn't give a flying fuck what the game is called if it was good. But in its current state, it ain't. And as ixi explained above, shitty writing can't be helped. Ofc, I've expereinced only very little of the story, but the conversations/characters up to that point were bland at best. It all seemed forced.

The problem with Larian is that they are stuck in the past when you talk about their writing. The same issues that plagued D:OS are present here. Nearly everything is played for jokes, the tone is "off" and this just cheapens the impact of both the serious moments and the funny ones.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Only mEn of culture can see and appreciate this.

/sigh

I am so, SO disappointed with this Divinity 3 game. Perhaps exiting early access will change things...
