Glengarry Glen Ross - 10/10
For whatever reason i had never seen or even heard of this movie before. All star cast, character driven and phenomenally good.

Pearl - 6,5/10
A rather unique slasher with actual character development that hovers between absurdly fucked-up family drama and pure dark comedy. Mia Goth's performance is genuinely good, her wild Ms Hyde side is essentially what keeps the movie afloat. Dat smile though :')
Il Sorpasso - 8/10
I had watched this classic many years ago and remembered very little about it, so it was a good time to give the movie another run. It didn't disappoint. Despite being sixty years old, the dynamics between the characters are pleasantly modern, with a strong dose of charm involved alongside the melancholy for an era that feels incredibly distant yet somewhat close to ours (then again, nothing ever changes here in Tuscany ). It ends in an unexpected way, which is another plus.

Don't Look Up: No idea/10
Tried to watch this again. All I could keep thinking of is the SouthPark self fart sniffers. Premise for a comedy was a good one, tainted and bogged down in self righteousness of ham fisted metaphors of political slap fighting.
Made it about a far in as I did last go around, went in thinking "Maybe last time it was just burnout of the current situation here, that I couldn't look past those grandiose displays to enjoy the comedy". No...it's not that you can't look past them to enjoy the movie. Its because when you try to look around them, they dodge back in front of you and wave it in your face, incase you missed it.

The Menu - a good movie/10
Enjoyable but probably not everyone will have similar opinion. Didn't end like I was expecting, so this way surprised me. Ralph Finnes was great.

I Came By (2022) - 5.5/10
A mediocre film but what works in its favour is that it's unpredictable. Worth a viewing just for that and some familiar faces.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Black Adam - Zzz/10
Really, got asleep in the second half. While it had some weird and surprising editing on its first half, it turns into a snoozefest (felt like you've seen it all before and before and...) once the drama ensues.

The Menu 8/10
I really love these kind of movies; clever, satirical and pitch black humor. Particularly liked the course ingredients displayed on the screen
The less you know about it, the better. Nice cast too.
Puss in Boots, the new one 8/10
This was surprisingly good, for yet another sequel in a tired franchise. Different animation styles are borrowed heavily from Into the Spider-Verse, but that's a good thing. More often than not, the backgrounds looked drawn by hand, and it all looks fantastic.
Story is a little meh, but I was also surprised how dark it got (it actually shows people getting killed). Humor was pretty good too.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

The Pale Blue Eye - 7/10
Slow-paced and conventionally old-school (perhaps even too much), but the atmosphere is there and so is the mystery, investigator Bale and a verbose young Poe(tm) before the ravens took over his life. The big twist either elevates the movie or sinks it - personally, I liked how the story panned out albeit it wasn't without inconsistencies.
The Menu - 👁️ 👄 👁️/10
A pretty effective parody of the cringe-inducing food(ie) culture and its faux pompousness with celebrity mustardchefs and the like. Very much on the nose, but the solid pacing and the frequent unexpected moments keep it interesting in its own way. Fiennes is (once again) perfect for the role, while as for Anya Taylor-Joy, the more I see her the more I find myself inadvertently giggitified.

Aftermath (2017) by Arnie
6/10
The plot is unbelievable as much as it really has happened. Somehow directing was poor and acting wasn't that far from being a cheap B-class movie. Props to Arnie to still try to push himself to much more demanding roles but I fear that his acting time has really come to an end.
Fury (2014)
8/10 - One of the better war movies in recent time. After Nolan's Drunkirk disappointment this one was really really good. Much better than what've expected.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre - Meh/10
It's somehow IMO the weakest Guy Ritchie's movie. It's alright to stream it and forget. Not the most solid of stories, felt like some ideas from Man from U.N.C.L.E. that was left on B - roll. Hugh Grant was a high point in this movie and every scene with him was great, the rest was generic.

The Menu - 9/10
Excellent movie
Violent Night - 7.5/10
A bit derivative but great fun
Black Panther Wakanda Forever - 4/10
After watching this mess of a movie I'm more and more convinced that what is killing the MCU is the focus on female-centric narratives. They're all flawless, overpowered, highly intelligent - and boring. None of the other diversity checkmarks do nearly as much damage. Black Panther 1 was good. Shang-Chi was alright. A movie without white people can work just fine, but replace almost every lead with a woman and it all comes crashing down.

Its not because they have female leads that these movies are bad, its because modern writers often can‘t write women properly. Its like they have to focus on the fact that they are women and bring in a ton of rehashed clichés regarding women that makes them really bad.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

@couleur
I agree. It's not the female lead most the time. It's the movie is bad and since it is, you ALSO notice it has a bad female lead.
A bad movie with a male lead doesn't (usually) get focus on that the lead is male and tropey. Since we are use to bad cliché male leads. It blends in with the overall theme of the movie itself being bad.
Quote: | They're all flawless, overpowered, highly intelligent - and boring |
To be fair, thats most the men too. Hulk is now that with the boring "Brains but also brawl perfect balance" (never liked that in the comics either), Dr Strange, Captain America, etc. Again we are use to seeing male leads in bad movies like this: 99% perfect with a small flaw/conflict/past dichotomy they somehow usually turn into a strength by the end to make them 'overcome' by tropey means. But it's the expected norm so doesn't stand out.
Take Ironman, if it was a new female character like that and she was as cocky, arrogant, filthy rich, seen men as sexual toys for the most part, super smart (I learned quantum physics last night), and such. Peoples eyes would roll so hard they would sprain them.
Not that hes a bad character, but just change which genitals the character has but leave the rest the exact same, and some people would bark about how shallow and badly written to pander to women they was.

The Whale: 7/10 Wow! Excellent movie. Brandon Frasier's finest acting! Laughed, cried, just a good story...Recommended!
FYI: screen is supposed be half (not full), so don't do what I did and download three different 4K and 1080p copies thinking they were bad releases.
