Edit: Why did Adidas run an advertising campaign that targeted extremely obese fucks, when that demographic is likely an insignificant percentage of their market share? Wouldn't be logical if it's only about money.
Because that's a market that is untapped from their normal demographic, and now is a 'talkable' public opinion shift. A whole group of people that do not buy athletics shoes, that now can be targeted to remind them we exist, and we now make shoes for you! Because it's a 'hot topic' of body awareness currently. Because it's an insignificant percentage of their market share, and they want to change that now that is 'ok to be fat' and can openly say they make fat people shoes.
I guess my question back would be why would they do it for non-monetary reasons. What gain do they get from normalizing obesity as a whole as a random cause? There well may be one. But I cannot myself think of any from doing so, other than to broaden the audience that buys shoes..would apply. Why would they spend money to target them, just to push obesity is OK arbitrarily? What good/gain/purpose would that do for them? What does pushing it, DO for them?

I think the key difference is the view on if it previously existed or not.
I myself dont think they pioneered fat acceptance at all. I heard about it and seen in it magazines (I saw on store shelves), articles, and discussions long before Adidas started making 'non-athletic athletic shoe' advertisements. At least since the late 90's. It didn't get widespread public steam until about 10 years ago.
It started, at least to my perception late 90's with the super model 'super skinny' fiasco and people starting to be verbally upset it didn't represent real people at all. Then others spoke up saying "YES I always thought that! Why they all have to be skinny and boney? Where is the ones like me..the normal and bigger 'real world' models?" but was too taboo/frowned on to say before.
If any company is to point at for furthering that widespread public acknowledgment, it was companies like victoria secret and such that started testing the waters with larger models early 2000's when the public rabble over it was enough to gamble aiming at new customers directly. Seeing if making ads for "It's not only for skinny women, you larger women that we now hear wanting validation, can also dress sexy in the bedroom by buying our plus sized line."
Maybe its a difference of when we each first noticed the large push in the movement as the mistaken 'starter' of it?
I still am confused on the reason of why they would arbitrability start supporting it, if it wasn't for money. What reason to you is the reason they do? I could honestly be missing an angle they would spend that amount of money on to further a cause that has no bearing on their company here, that I cannot picture.
I guess I am confused on the process steps it took to do: "Adidas execs at meeting -> ? -> engaging in discussion of obesity normalization"
Lets say its not a business focused decision. The '?' is the part I'm lost on, on what type of decision, and why.

Yeah a valid point, big business goes after the money at any cost. They don't give a fuck about the position/agenda/issues, only what raises or presents a risk to the bottom line. The people that rage about Anti-Work blablah KEEP their Netflix subscriptions and continue watching StarWaRs LoTR and whatever mainstream garbage that's pumped out to take their dollars.
On top of that, they rage online and create content that only garners more interest to the shows they take issue with. Then you got the new target demographic onboard as well that maybe never cared to take interest in StarWars, Witcher, XX blablah.
Yeah it's a pretty clever really and it applies to both political and corporate issues as you can deflect onto Woke/Race whatever etc. to shield a shit product or decision and garner more interest in the fallout.
It's still sadly a walk away from and avoid talking to anyone about the topic though. Too much passion / rage / blah blah to have an intelligent level-headed discussion about.
I cannot in any situation grasp the idea that a govt or business that is pushing the buttons to manipulate the people, would choose the manipulation they want to instill is for the people to desire to overthrow them. (Classical Marxism)
"You know what we should use our power and influence we clawed for, for? To anger the people into seizing the means of production from us, and dismantling the capaltisitic class system that we so love being at the top of."
Make sense to me
Sometimes I feel they use words like that, not as it's meaning. But as a slur, an insult. A way to convey what they feel the words means to their ideology (or the threat it would cause in opposition), vs what its meaning is.
It's the political stance equal to 'cuck'. They dont usually mean the man enjoys sharing his wife, along with her agreement of enjoyment. (to each their own in the bedroom I say.) They usually mean it as the general connotation of opinion of what type of person THEY think you'd need to be to do it, based around it must be opposite of them (the good trait parts), because they don't.

@AKofC I don't agree that the execs are riding the bandwagon. They're pushing it.
That's what I'm saying also. I'm not implying they're riding a bandwagon. The reason discussions have been so heated is because they keep pandering and passing it off as being progressive for western markets. Then a different approach for China. All for that $$$
No...he and that guy mistakenly think he is (out of no other idea what it could be..a dumb joke used since black and white entertainment: Fat man is pregnant), because of his stomach. He ends up throwing up a mud monster instead.
Big difference between:
What..what is wrong with me?
I think your pregnant (fat/dumb people joke) and DC makes joker pregnant and gives birth in attempt to appeal to LGBTBBQ community.
Did you even vaguely look into where it came from, or did you just accept what the internet told you 2 panels meant out of a whole comic?
Again..am I the only person that has access to google, before believing things I see on the internet and forming opinions and mistruths I pass on to others?
(Took me all of 15 seconds to find out of DC jumped the shark with something that absurd in a batman/joker series, and which comic it was in: Joker: the Man Who Stopped Laughing #4)

" Joker tries to romance the magic user but is knocked into the mud by Zatanna, who casts a spell that "no one else will ever have your baby." While the spell is meant to stop Joker from ever procreating, it ends up leading to him getting pregnant and giving birth to a mud monster, whom he calls his son."
that's the story and yes i read it before i posted. of course its to appeal to their "modern" or "new" audience and totally in line what to expect from DC in 2022/2023. woke garbage.
(which end his son comes out of from.. well i could not care less really, but sure, at least he doesn't have a vagina)

It was in a dream about him fantasizing about a female superhero, and he woke up swollen stomach and his dim witted sidekick Gaggy said he must be pregnant, then threw up a pile of sentient mud after saying he swallowed a lot of it. He accepted it as a son mockingly to taunt Zatanna about the family they could have together. (turning a slight against him, into sarcastic ammo, joker style.)
In no part of it was he pregnant, or gave birth.
I suppose if vomiting living things up is birth. Hollywood movies have been woke to men being able to birth life for decades.
I guess you can read into it what you need to, if you need a reason to be offended.

It even literally says he isnt pregnant by the doctor:
Groomers? wtf?
How is this grooming? Teaching kids metaphorically that comic book villains can have babies I guess?
Middle aged groomer pedo: My kink is tricking kids into thinking batmans villains can be inseminated.

Hey now couleur, Leave Karen alone.
He is just voicing his opinion of how this new age stuff is violating his traditional conservative sensibilities by posting it online that he does not approve of men having large stomachs and jokes about being pregnant, is all.
Every karen is free to complain online to no one in particular how media now-a-days made them scowl and grab pearls.

...and yes we can blame each other for being "upset" or a "Karen" in an endless loop...
We can, but only one of the loops is valid: No one posted they saw it and was for it. You are the one posting you saw it and sharing with everyone you are against it.

I'm not upset. I'm watching standup on youtube and talking to you
But again negative attention is attention: I would have had no idea if you didnt say anything. But since you did, not only do I know about it, but downloaded the .cbr to check. So one more person saw the thing that shouldn't exist, by you complaining about it.

I didn't say I contributed to DC. I said I am aware of a thing they did, and read the story they wrote that I would have never even known existed without you.
But just to help, I bought two copies for my kindle (it's only $6) One for me and one for you. Might as well fund the groomer pedos I seem I support right? Stop stealing content from hard working people just trying to make a living by teaching kids villians can have big stomachs too.
Old rap groups (Two live crew, NWA, etc) didn't have the people complaining about them buying anything. But they got more popular by people hearing other people complaining about the no big deal they was doing.

Wait..you bought the first one? Could have saved $6, didn't know you already had a copy.
